The fact that he didn't seem bothered was odd to the Asset. He watched him go, shoveling another handful of popcorn into his mouth before putting the bag back, dusting off his hands and glancing out the window before heading into the little sitting room. There was a crappy television in one corner of the room, and he walked over, bending down and fiddling with the buttons, turning it on and flipping it to the local news before sitting stiffly in a chair. This activity was irregular for him, now, and even on a mission. It was especially odd now; however, since he was not on a mission, and was away from his handlers.
---
"Can you tell me about them?" Natasha asked, folding her hands together. Her attention was all on Madeline though, leaned onto the edge of the bed with her dark brow furrowed together in concern and thought. Frightening? She wondered where the woman had come from. As of checking her phone five minutes ago, she still hadn't received information on her full identity, even with their extensive, national database.
That didn't stop him. He just fought harder. If his movements hadn't been so precise he might've been mistaken for having some sort of fit. "What are you going to do to me?" he asked in, something creeping into his voice. Something human. It was unfamiliar to him, as was the mind numbing fear he was experiencing, but the look on his face as he seemed to fully panic probably wasn't completely unfamiliar to Steve. For a moment, it looked like Bucky.

Once he was sure it was all set up, Loki stood there for a moment to admire his good work, even though ironically it was an invisible shield, there was nothing to see. He closed the door shut tightly behind him and dusted his hands. "There. Problem solved." he said to no one. The chattering on the television caught his attention. He went into the other room seeing the bright little box and gabbling away and the man sitting hypnotized in a chair watching it. Ah, another pointless Midgardian activity. He figured. ______________________________
"There's not much to tell. I-I don't remember a lot of it. Just a lot of shadows. Orders in Russian. They were muffled though, it was hard to figure out what they were saying." There must have been more to it that triggered the deeper sense of fear. Screaming and shadows was not enough to traumatize a person like this. "And there was another part, it only happened once though... they rolled me into a room much like this one. I don't know what it was for exactly. But when the procedure was over I was brought back to the other place." Madeline grew silent, that was all she could recall right now. ________________________________
"Me specifically, or S.H.I.E.L.D.?" he asked. He had noticed Bucky's fearful look for the second it appeared, but it was gone now. It gave a slight flicker of hope in Steve's heart.

"Do you have TV?" The Asset was sitting with one leg tucked under him, other lopsidedly rested on the floor as he turned off the news and began to switch through the couple channels they got. News, news, something he didn't recognize, news, sports... it was all the same as he remembered, though he was distinctly aware that the TV was getting grainier and more in need of replacement every time he came up here, along with everything else. "On Asgard."
---
Oh. Natasha's eyes widened for just a moment, but she took a deep breath and brought any worries under control. Just a coincidence, right? This woman reminded her of herself in many ways, but this... this pushed her buttons the wrong way. She didn't know why; nothing else she had seen today had. "If you remember anything else you're free to tell me," she finally said, soft smile returning, "or Sam. He's kind of the unofficial therapist around here. I think you might like him." Sam was the kind of calming but funny presence that she needed. Professional, but lively enough to take her mind off of things, right?
There was a pause. The man had finally turned to stare at the figure, taking him in. Tall, muscular, blonde, light eyes, pale, clearly trained in martial arts... there was something there. The man's face screwed up, and his struggling stopped, as his Adam's apple worked up and down. "You," he finally spoke, clarifying after a moment of stony silence, "I know you."

"No, not on Asgard." There are more important matters to take care of there." After watching him flip channels, he secretly admitted to itself, the technology was impressive. But what it was showing was grim in material except for the one where there were two groups of people kicking around a ball on a stretch of grass. It must have been a type of sport. Thinking about it deeply made him question his whereabouts. He had responsibilities that still nagged at him instinctively, even if he had been driven away. "Maybe I should go back." he said with a hint of uncertainty. _________________________________________________________________
"Thank you. I will." This had been the most comforting thing she had experienced since HYDRA. She was still shook, but it helped release a little of the tension that had built up inside of her. .....
Steve let him change the subject. "Yes, you do." his spirits raised at that moment. "It's me, Steve. We used to fight in the war together. But that was a long time ago." He started out with only these details, they were important. He hoped Bucky would start to catch on.

"Back to the last channel or back to Asgard?" the Asset asked, not aware that he had apparnelty actually made a joke, well, sort of. He paused in his channel flipping, brow furrowed as he watched the other man think, remote resting on his thigh. If the man meant that he wanted to leave now, the Asset felt a little bit of panic. He couldn't do this all alone right now.
---
Natasha nodded, smiling before saying, "Well, I'm going to leave you alone for a bit, if you don't mind. I have to go and take care of some paperwork and stuff." She tsk-ed, standing up and stretching with a grunt, back popping. She needed to go to the chiropractor. One of the HYDRA agents had clubbed her across the back with an automatic rifle.
The man's eyes darted from side to side, his free hand shaking slightly as he ran it down his face. He didn't remember. He was scared because he had reached back into his memory and realized that before a point... there was nothing. How had he never noticed before? He had no childhood, no teenage years, just young adulthood that happened sporadically, as people had different hairstyles and disappeared while new ones reappeared... "I don't remember you," he said simply, trying to still his shaking.

He didn't answer right away as he usually did. There was a long silence before he spoke. "I mean Asgard." He kept his eyes trained on the television watching to news, not aware of the panic that rolled off the other man. _________________________________ "Okay." she didn't particularly like the idea, having liked the red-haired woman's company, but there were other things she obviously had to do and that was fine. Madeline rested her head on her pillow with her arms at her sides, dark hair swept over her face. She could ponder over what those dreams had meant, but her headache was creeping back. ..... They dropped again at his words. He had been so close, so close.... "Then if you don't remember me, is there anything you can remember?" Steve was so desperate to get answers, a sign, anything. Probably just the torture chambers in HYDRA. He thought solemnly.

The Asset blinked slowly, turning his head away from Loki and to the television again. He sat in silence, thinking, before he asked, quietly, "Do you have family there?" Family was something he had never had, but he knew that that was why people always wanted to go back to things. 'Oh please, just let me see my family!' or 'No, my family needs me!' Of course, that was mainly on missions.
---
The man's brow furrowed, and he said, voice wobbling a tiny bit as he said, "Wind and ice." His shoulder metal shoulder twitched, as did his face. That was what plagued his dreams, when he slept normally. Wind and ice and pain. Other than that, all he remembered was more pain, and fear, and anger...

[Oh, hi!]
Loki stood rigidly when he asked that. His eyes darkened in their sockets and his lips were straight and expressionless. This was a very complicated question to answer, one he would have usually preferred not to. "I have my reasons." he muttered vaguely. How could Loki ever assume he wanted to go back because of his so-called family? And he wasn't referring to Frigga, but Odin and Thor, and the rest of those traitors. Ha! Never. But there were other matters to sort out.
_________________________
"Of course." Steve nodded and looked down at the floor. When Bucky had fallen off the train, it had been in the mountains, it was no wonder he remembered those two elements. He couldn't think of anything else to say, just sympathetic words for Bucky, yet he didn't say them because he knew that his friend wouldn't take them as he should. "I'm not going to let them hurt you again, alright? I swear on it."

[[ hm do you wanna skip? ]]
---
"No," the man said immediately, forcefully, eyes hardening again as he seemed to snap back into the reality that had been made for him, "no, I need to go back to them." Apparently forgetting for the moment that he had killed his handler and the rest of the base had been dismantled by S.H.I.E.L.D., he struggled again for a moment before giving up, leaning his head back. He was quite beat up, right eye swollen, cheeks, neck, arm, and what was visible on his chest bruised... HYDRA had one a number on him before Natasha and her team had come to the rescue.

____________________
"No you don't." he said more firmly now. "They'll kill you, Bucky. There's no doubt. They might have needed you before, but you don't need them." Steve felt like he was trying to inform a child with foolish intentions. He couldn't let him go back to HYDRA, especially after he had already escaped, which probably ticked them off even more. His punishment would be cruel to the extreme. "Listen, I want to do everything I can that you would like to make you better, but that's the one thing I can't let you do. So if there's anything else..."

After Loki's little freak out, they had managed to sit down and watch some TV. They had been like that the rest of the day, and finally, the Asset had said he was retiring to his room before he did just that. He headed up the stairs, heavy footsteps making them creak. Finally, he ducked into the first room on his left, collapsing on the creaky bed with a sigh. It had been a long day.
---
"Make me better from what?" the man asked, voice rising again suddenly. Nothing that Steve was saying, from his limited perspective, made any sense to him. "Who the hell is Bucky?" He kept saying that. He kept talking to him like he knew him. Maybe the man recognized his face, but he was sure he didn't know him. He would have a name for the man then, right? There would be something. There would have to be something. His handlers were many things but they couldn't be liars.

Loki had stayed where he was downstairs in the living room, ignoring the fact that there was a second bedroom up the stairs. Instead he remained awake still contemplating on his decision whether to go back to Asgard or stay here. He sighed. It was difficult as much as it might have seemed easy to someone else. Thor would likely still be distracted with doting over his newfound love interest, that "Jane Foster" woman. And Odin might still be weak from before. He could easily take the throne.. maybe. But there was also the option to stay here and help this guy out, he hadn't done anything so far to irritate Loki enough to the point where he wanted to throw him off a building. He could also be very handy in the future if necessary...
__________________________
Steve scratched his head in frustration. It was so hard to explain to Bucky what had happened to him when he was in this state. Not to mention that he also wasn't even trying to cooperate, which wasn't really his fault. Steve was still recovering from the realization that he was even still alive. He should just leave him alone for now, and come back later to try again. "Never mind." he sighed. "You need to rest." Bucky... he added his name silently to himself.

The Asset was out in a minute, and five minutes later, he was up again. He had been dreaming again, and he woke up with the distinct feeling of wind having been hitting his face. He rubbed at his stubbly cheeks with his flesh hand, sighed heavily, and stood up, making the floorboards creak. Cracking his door, he peeked out. The light downstairs was still on, and he frowned, but didn't go down. He was used to getting yelled at for intruding in private affairs, and why else would Loki still be down there? The man didn't move those, he just stood, absently staring.
---
Those were words he'd never heard before. The man turned his head to the side once more, studying Steve's form, which was half hidden in the shadows around the doorway. "Come closer?" he said after a moment, hesitantly, more like a question than a command.

[Welcome back, I hope you're doing alright.]
Loki had thought that the other man had retired to his room for the night, but apparently not. He heard the footsteps groaning up the stairs which pulled Loki from his long thoughtful trance. He raised and eyebrow and looked towards their direction. What was wrong? Was it that he didn't trust him in his own place? ______________________________
Steve had been turning to go when Bucky had called him back. Steve shoved his hands in his pockets and swiveled around to move slowly towards him again. Bucky was still on edge; he had to be cautious. "What is it?"

[[ i'm good! busy and tired, but good! ]]
The Asset pricked his ears. The little movements he had heard had stopped. Something akin to embarrassment, or what he thought it was called, squirmed in his chest, and after clearing his throat, he called as plainly as he could, "Are you alright?" It had only been twenty-five minutes, give or take, but he knew the god was tired. He looked tired. The Asset did not know much, but he was not any fool.
---
The man who was strapped to the cot did not speak again until Steve was right beside him. He stared upwards, long, unkempt hair covering feral eyes and pale skin that had clearly not often seen the sun. He strained again his cuffs, for a moment nearly looking as though he'd shoot up and snap at Steve with his teeth, but after a moment he relaxed and commented, the spot between his brows creasing in frustration, "I know you."

[Great to hear! ^^]
"Never been better. " he croaked. "Just thinking for a bit is all." He shrugged his shoulders tiredly. Perhaps it'd be smart to do his "thinking" upstairs in the other bedroom so that the other man didn't feel as if he needed to be wary of what he was doing.
______________________________
Here we go again.Steve thought, gazing sympathetically down at the worn soldier. Was this how it was going to be from now on, would he have to constantly be torn apart and disappointed like this? Bucky would say he knew him, and then revert back to the brainwashed weapon HYDRA had transformed him into. Do you really anymore? All he could think of to say instead of trying to explain who he was again like the last round was, "That's good." It wasn't cheerful or anything.

The Asset made a humming sound in the back of his throat, the floors creaking some more as he shifted hesitantly from one foot to another, before he called, voice still mild, "Okay. Goodnight." And then he turned, heading back into his room, careful to shut the door softly, before he headed back to the squeaky, rusty bed, and flopped onto it. It would be a long night.
---
The man just stared, and stared, before suddenly, tears sprung up in his eyes. He squeezed them shut, looking surprised himself, as he used the hospital gown to wipe them away. His mouth hung open slightly as he looked at the wetness on his garment, but it only seemed to make him cry more. "I know you," he said pitifully, like he was willing it to be so, even if the part of him that knew that he knew this man was just staring into what was seemingly a black, empty hole.

Loki tiptoed quietly up the stairs after he was gone. He didn't turn on any lights and moved blindly across the hallway to the opposite bedroom while attempting to make as little noise as he could. He stepped out of his heavy boots and flexed his feet, then straightened out the sheets on the bed and settling down. It definitely was not as comfortable as one in Asgard, but it was something. Loki almost felt sorry that this was all the other man had to offer. It was pathetic, but generous of him. He laid down and stared at the ceiling with is hands together over his abdomen, listening to sound of his own thoughts and gently falling asleep.
---------------- [BUCKY BOY DON'T YOU DARE CRY]
Steve made a daring move, he sat down on the end of the bed, but kept his eyes locked fiercely with Bucky's in case he changed again. "Do you want me to stay?" he questioned. He didn't want Bucky to be left here crying by himself unless he had to.

[[ he gonna do it. ]]
The man opened and closed his mouth, looking unsure as the tears continued to roll down his cheeks, but then he nodded, turning his eyes away to stare directly at the wall, "Please." His sniffles were quelling now. The tears had stopped slowly, but his cheeks were wet. His eyes were vacant again, the fear and sadness and straining having left them, hollow.

The sun was peeking over the horizon, slipping into through the thin, ragged curtains that covered the windows. Loki blinked several times to adjust to it's brightness, shading them by lifting his hand to his forehead. It was another dreaded morning. He let out a yawn and went downstairs, finding himself moving to the kitchen to make breakfast. The God opened the fridge, downed a whole gallon of milk and wiped his mouth with an arm, not even caring that it left a stain. After realizing a heartbeat later what he'd done, he grimaced. I'm becoming a sloppy mortal. At the store he had bought a carton of eggs, so he pulled those out, along with a small skillet that needed to be washed. As soon as he did that, he put the now polished skillet over the stove along with a few cracked eggs and waited for them to sizzle.
-----------
[YOU MONSTER]
Steve reached out hesitantly and placed his palm on Bucky's flesh hand, but barely. "Hey, look at me." he said softly. "Alright, I'll stay." With that he got up again and pulled over a lone chair to the edge of the bed where he been just a few seconds before. He moved into it and tried to make himself as comfortable as a chair could be. "All night if you need me."

The Asset woke to the smell of cooking food, rubbing his arm over his eyes, yawning loudly as he opened them ever so slightly. Light poured in, and he closed them again, used to awakening in dark. After what was probably ten more minutes, and the smell of actual, fresh food had become too tantalizing for him to resist, he flipped his way out of bed. His bare feet hit the scratchy floor, and he stood, pulling his shirt back on and walking out of the door, not even trying to keep his feet form making the boards squeak as he jogged downstairs and into the kitchen. "Gods cook?"
---
The man just stared at their hands where they'd connected, looking a bit scared until the other man moved away, sitting down in the chair. He nodded ever so slightly, and rolled his head to the side, looking at the wall with a tiny, almost inaudible, "Thank you."

[Nope, no Bucky keep that shirt off. It suits you. ] Loki flipped the eggs in the pan before they could start to burn. He didn't turn his attention away from his task but replied over his shoulder. "We usually have someone else do it for us but we're not incapable." He turned the dial on 'off' and placed the freshly cooked eggs on two plates that were sitting on the counter close by. Loki handed one plate to him. "Here." --------- Steve had pretended to be asleep most of the night, for Bucky's comfort. But he wanted to stay alert for his own safety. It proved difficult though, as he had fallen asleep completely when dawn was breaking and now that the day had arrived he was waking up, but very groggy. He wondered if Bucky had gotten the night's rest. Lord knew he needed it.

[[ ]] "Thank you," the Asset said, taking the plate, rummaging in one of the drawers for a fork, pulling one out and taking a bite after a moment's hesitation, remembering that there was no penalty for daring to eat before everybody else here. He took another bite, pretty quickly. He was hungry as hell, and had only just realized it now. A lot of the time he would go for days, just drinking copious amounts of water with nothing to actually fill his stomach. It had never killed him, but he was borderline emaciated under all his muscle. "Do you have... chickens, where you're from?" --- The man truly had fallen asleep, chest rising and falling ever so slowly. His dark hair was in a matted clump by morning, as he kept rolling his head around, dreaming. His hospital shirt was soaked through with sweat too, but he had slept. A couple minutes after Steve had awakened, he finally stirred, eyes opening. For a moment, his breath hitched in his chest as he forgot where he was, but then it registered. S.H.I.E.L.D. There was that man. He looked around, until his eyes landed on the blonde, not saying anything, just watching. At around the same time, there was a knock on Madeline's door, and a soft, "Hey, you up?" A moment later, it swung upon, and in walked a different person than the night before, definitely not Natasha. He was tall, black, and handsome, with closely cropped hair and a neat beard, holding two cups of coffee.

[Dem pesky chickens.]
Loki tried to act proper again as he took smaller bites with his fork again, the opposite of how he had consumed that milk earlier. He paused to swallow and answer the question. "Well, yes. We do. There are quite a few species that live in Asgard as they do here. Ravens, chickens, horses..." he cleared his throat. "It's not that much different."
----------- Steve stretched his arms behind his back and heard his shoulders crack from the stiffness that had built up overnight. "You're awake." he stated the obvious. "How'd you sleep?" He yawned loudly. It probably had been a very long time since Bucky had gotten a good night's rest. --------------
He had come in at time where she had been sleeping lightly, her eyes snapped open and she turned her head swiftly to see him come in, but relaxed when she realized he looked safe. She relaxed again. Madeline pulled her blanket up closer to herself. "Are you Sam?" she asked. "Natasha told me about him last night."

"Except you're a god," the Asset stated simply, already having finished one of his eggs, downing the yolk whole before moving onto the next one. There was a tiny bit of sarcasm in his voice as he looked up, gauging a reaction as he shoveled another bite of the egg into his mouth, chewing slowly. Freedom of speech was a strange, strange thing. He was relishing it while he had it.
---
A blink, and then a glance around, and then a small nod and a quiet, "Well." He tried to move his arm to brush his hair out of his face, but grimaced, finding that he couldn't, because his wrists were still shackled to the sides of the bed. He was terribly thirsty, and hungry, but he knew not to ask. He would be yelled at it if he asked for for nourishment if it was not offered to him first, so he swallowed some spit and closed his eyes for a moment, letting out a breath. "I dreamt about the wind and ice," he said after a moment, eyes still closed.
"That's me," Sam greeted, slowing his step as he sat down next to her, putting one of the coffees on her bedside table, "ah, I didn't know what you liked, so I dumped in one cream and one sugar. The full name's Sam Wilson by the way, nice to meet you, Madeline." He grinned, eyes scrunching up as he took a gulp of coffee. "How'd you sleep?"

"That." he confirmed, nodding. He placed his silverware on the plate and brought it to the sink to be washed later. Loki came back over and scooted his chair. "Now," he began. "I thought over some things last night." His tone was serious now.
-------- Steve was interested in what he had to say. He leaned in a little in his chair. "Can you tell me more about it?" the question came out partly as a whisper. But before he could get a response, a lady in a white uniform came into the room with a tray of food. She approached Steve but kept an eye on Bucky, afraid of what he would do. "Here's something for you, Captain Rogers." she handed it to him gently. She quickly backed away afterward and left without looking back. "Hey, thanks Mel." He'd read her tag, and was sure she hadn't heard him thank her. Steve shook his head and turned back to Bucky. "Sorry, you were saying?" He picked the water up off the tray and handed it to him. "I'm not thirsty."
----------- "Fine." she blinked at him. She looked down at the coffee on the table. It did smell delightful. "Thank you." She was quiet, and unsure of what he wanted to talk about so she just started out by saying, "It's nice to meet you Mr. Sam Wilson."

The Asset looked up, dark eyebrows raising as he asked, "And...?" He didn't like the pause, or the way that the god was staring at him. The Asset really found himself not wanting the god to leave, in fact. It had only been, what, two days now? He was bonded to Loki anyways. Anyone that could provide consistency and authority for the man was someone he wanted to stick around, because it was, frankly, all he'd ever known.
---
The man watched her come and watched her go, lips thin and eyes narrowed as he stared. It took him a moment after she had vacated the room to come back to himself, and when he did, he looked down at the cup of water in his hand, saying slowly, "I can't drink this." Maybe it sounded like he wouldn't drink it just for the heck of it, but no, he really couldn't lift his hand because of the shackle. He looked back up at Steve again, brow furrowed. He was thirsty.
---
"It's good to meet you too," Sam chuckled, taking another long sip of his own coffee, resting his elbows on the edge of the bed, and the bottom of the coffee on one of his arms, "have you... can you remember, anything else? S.H.I.E.L.D.'s still running your prints, and stuff."

"I'm staying here." he said firmly. For now.Loki said nothing more, nothing less, just waited for his reaction. He wouldn't say how he had thought about how much this guy looked like he needed help.
------- "Oh." Steve said. He looked down at the shackle that restrained Bucky's hand. "Right." He tried thinking about what could be done to solve the issue and remembered Bucky's file in the cabinet on the wall. Steve went over to it and pulled the thing out, flipping it open. His eyes fell on a picture of him, attached to all the needed paperwork by a paperclip. He took the paperclip and the shackle on his arm and turned it until he found the lock hole. Steve put the point of the clip in it and unlatched it. "Better?"
----------
"No I don't. I'm sorry." she said apologetically. "It's very hard... and it only came to me out of coincidence." Madeline was getting more comfortable speaking to these people now.

The Asset blinked, and then nodded, trying to seem nonchalant as he said, "Okay." He finished off his other egg as he spoke, taking a gargantuan bite and chewing rapidly. He started to get up, paused and wiped his mouth, since he'd originally forgotten, and put his plate and fork into the sink with a clatter. "I have to go," he began, "if that's okay, and finish some things outside. I was cleaning up yesterday." He turned to look at Loki, eyebrows lifted.
---
The man stared at his arm in surprise, fingers twitching against the cool cup of water, before downing it in one big gulp. He crumpled it with one hand, setting it by his side carelessly before staring at his hand again, wiggling the fingers, before looking at Steve, and not answering the question, but asking in confusion, "Why would you do that?" He was the prisoner. Prisoners didn't get to suddenly be relieved of restraints to drink some water.
---
"It's fine," Sam said, waving a hand dismissively, "you're fine. You met Natasha, right? Have you met Steve yet? Eh, well, probably not, he's with that James guy, Bucky, whatever they call him."
