The apocalypse came suddenly. It wasn't like in shows and movies at all- there was no warning, no days, weeks, months of ominous stories about people getting bitey or having weird rashes or anything. I mean, there was that ebola "scare" a few years back but... this wasn't even like that. There weren't even rumors or memes. All of a sudden, one day, everyone was just dead.
That was how it started, for us survivors at least. It's how it ended for everyone else. January 16, 2021, everyone just fell over, coughing and gasping and trying to scream as the light went out. Us too, but the difference between us and them is that we got to wake back up. Well, we got to wake back up and still be alive. They would all get up too, about two days later. The ones that were lucky enough to have someone around to bury them came crawling back out of the ground. The rest, beginning to decay, some half-eaten by scavengers, staggered to their feet with their flesh hanging off their bones. That's when we knew we were really screwed.
We were the survivors. The immune. For some reason, the virus- or whatever it was- it didn't kill us and turn us into them. But really, no one gets away from whatever that hell-spawn is entirely unscathed. No, the rest of us got to live, but we all have our scars. When we woke up, alone and surrounded by the dead, we were different, physically. Our mutations are all different, and some more drastic than others: a change in eye or hair color, strange rashes or discoloring on the skin. Some people lost their hair entirely, or their sight, or their hearing. Some people no longer feel pain... some people feel everything. It could be a blessing or a curse, depending on who you are and what you got stuck with. Either way, we're not the same. It's hard to say if we're all even really still human. But for now, that's not what's important. The important thing is that they aren't.
It's been five days since the end of the world, and we have inherited hell.
Good luck.

So I've been listening to "Hurt" by Johnny Cash basically on a loop for like... 3 days, because it applies so heavily to a zombie apocalypse LARP I go to and I'm getting all of the feels (RIP Freddy *kazoo solo of "My Heart Will Go On"*). So what I really want to do is a text rp of that, but it's way too complicated for the forums (or at least for me to try to type out on the forums rn) so I'll settle for something similar but not.
As you can see, it's a pretty basic zombie apocalypse story, with some differences. Most of the details will be discovered as the characters go along, if most of them become relevant. This would be a very small group, maybe even 1x1, not a large group of survivors, because the survivors are very few and far between. There weren't a lot of immune to begin with, and in the two weeks since, even a lot of them have been killed by zombies or even other people.

So to more thoroughly explain the state of things:
Five days ago- January 16, 2021- everyone on earth suddenly died. A few hours later, some people- probably less than 0.0001% of the population- got back up, still alive and sentient. However, the disease had changed their bodies while they were unconscious- for some, it improved them; for others, it harmed them. Some, it simply made them look different. From there, people did different things: some laid their families to rest, some stocked supplies, some looked for other survivors. Few suspected that two days later, everyone else would rise too, but they wouldn't be lucky enough to still be sentient. They came after the survivors, tearing at them with hands and teeth. Whether they wanted to eat or just kill, no one is sure: no one stuck around long enough to find out.
As for the rest of the planet, the disease seems to have effected many other species as well. Most just died, and didn't get back up one way or another. This was the case for most primates, apes, and pigs, and really anything similar to humans. Cats, raccoons, foxes, reptiles, large hooved animals like horses and cattle, and birds are completely unaffected: the carnivorous ones can even eat the flesh of diseased animals without a problem. However, dogs and bears will die if they eat a diseased creature, and a select few may even become zombies themselves, though more likely they won't get back up. Most fish and aquatic life seems to be okay, but it's not recommended to eat fish from a polluted water source. So far, no one's sure what would happen if someone got an extra dose of disease (such as eating a contaminated fish, or getting bitten by a zombie).
This roleplay takes place somwhere in Virginia, east of the Appalachian Mountains. There's not really anything special about the location, I just picked it because I like the Appalachains and Virginia isn't super southern, but it's not that far north either, which should give a good climate, location, and balance of character types.
For now, I think I'm gonna cap off joining at about 5 or 6 characters. I'm looking for people who are literate (generally a couple paragraphs; you should be pretty versatile though. I'm not always looking for long posts but you should be capable of them) and at least reasonably active. Obviously, if you're gonna get freaked out by zombies or upset by the horrible, terrible things that are inevitably going to happen to the characters, don't join. This is gonna be a kind of gory rp. Get as graphic as you want while still keeping it in the bounds of forum rules; if you need to describe something in extra detail, you can do so in PM granted everyone who will be seeing it will be okay with seeing it. Though, I draw the line at images. Please don't send gory images over PM for this roleplay. Finally, LGBTQ+ characters are entirely welcome, and if you're not okay with that don't join.

If none of this has deterred you, go ahead and fill out this form. Doesn't have to be real long, but I would prefer a decent length description (a few lines at least). Please don't write a novel though, it makes it difficult to get to the important bits.
