Brooke sighed as she watched Bec disappear over the ridge. "I guess I should have expected that," she muttered to herself, tightening her grip on her knife. She sidestepped so she could see beyond Jonah; the snake was watching their other companion's escape, but it would soon figure out that it was the smarter move to go for them. She considered running, but odds were it would follow, and bringing a giant serpent down on some poor tourist town was something Brooke wouldn't be able to live with ultimately. Just because mortals couldn't perceive what things from the Greek world really were didn't mean it couldn't harm them.
She couldn't have told Jonah what they were facing. Any of her siblings would have known, but Brooke's interests were intense and fleeting, and she hadn't read up on monsters since forever ago. The thing looked kind of like a horned rattlesnake, jumped up on steroids, but the way it moved.... it was grotesque and mesmerizing to watch. She'd wager it didn't have much by ways of a spine, which gave it alarming mobility. Brain already working on the problem, she moved clockwise away from Jonah, positioning herself behind it. "I need you to distract our guest," she said. Her first instinct was to go for the eyes, and then more reasonably the head. She didn't know how she was going to saw its head off with her little knife (even though it was magical), and she didn't want her life to suddenly become an episode of Game of Thrones.
She wished Elle were here: they could have used a few fireballs to make this thing into barbecue. She took a deep breath, fear catching in her throat. She almost couldn't go through with it. But then it started to advance on Jonah, hissing, and it wasn't a choice any more. She vaulted over its twitching rattler- she was thankful for all her years in gymnastics, how it had made her a flexible and agile threat in combat in lieu of actual tangible powers- and started her run up its back. It didn't work out so well.
Immediately it whipped around and she was looking into its eyes again. She yelped and half-jumped, half-fell forward to avoid its first strike, landing at the base of its neck. She was holding her knife in her left hand, but she felt the hard scales of the snake with her left. No way she'd be able to cut through that. And she wouldn't have a chance, anyway, because as she jumped back into the sand to avoid its second strike and regroup, she was just a little bit too slow. Its fangs scraped viciously across her right arm: it didn't hurt as much as she'd expected, just burned, but she immediately felt her arm begin to stiffen and she dropped her knife. In the few seconds it took to roll away from the third strike and make it halfway back to Jonah, it felt like her arm wasn't even there anymore. "Venom," she croaked, looking a little blue, pulling herself to her feet. "Watch the fangs." This kind of fighting was nothing she could win at. Going in alone had been a bad idea, but it was what she was used to, a hard habit to break.

Jonah did a pretty good job at distracting the thing, leaping there, dodging here, managing to be a nuisance to the serpent but avoiding its fangs and the deadly coils of its body. An opening, and he brought his spear down hard on its side and yelped when it simply bounced off, needing to twist out of the way in a flash as the beast spit and lunged. Okay, that wouldn't work, but the scales under its chin, those were smaller, lighter in color, and Jonah figured if the beast had any sort of weak spot it'd be there.
When he regained balance, Brook had already made her attack and failed, and he didn't even notice until he saw a flash of blonde rolling and staggering toward him. Beckett better be planning to come back. This situation was looking bleaker and bleaker, just as the sky was fading and fading to black.
She'd just managed to croak something about venom when the serpent reared and Jonah leaped in the same moment. Adrenaline pounded through his body and like any seasoned demigod he was in full battle mode now, the world coming into sharp focus, at least for an instant.
Jonah's leap closed the gap between Brooke and he, farther than maybe a normal person could, and his spear rocked against the snakes head, not a killing blow but enough to prevent, well, immediate death. He grunted when he landed, sand kicking up around him in a cloud and the air whipping his and Brooke's hair every which way.
Jonah never really seemed like he was the son of a wind god - save, of course, moments like these.
"It got you? There's, there's ambrosia, in my backpack-" The words rushed out of him as he started to shrug the pack off. "You need to take it, you should't try to move at all, you'll-" She needed to keep her heart rate down, keep the wound low, otherwise the venom would just spread faster. He thanked Eagle Scout training, for once puling through with knowledge he actually needed, "You gotta-" He broke off, yelping in shock when the serpent twisted and darted at him like lighting, he barely managed to avoid it, stumbling back and falling as he lost his footing. Jesus Christ. He hadn't even gotten the backpack half off.
"What are we gonna do?" He yelled, rolling out of the way once again. At least its attention was fixated on him - poor thing was an awful multitasker.

After catching his breath, Beckett looked over at the town. It was too far to run to, and when he got there who knew if he would have the courage to talk to the girls that were working on the car, if they weren't in fisticuffs with a monster already. The teen looked back behind him, hearing the sound of the fight as the greek-snake-thing tried to make a quick meal out of the rest of the group. He came to the quick realization that a) Bryony wasn't with him and brooke and jonah didn't sound like they were having a good time with the snake. "Oh //uc// me." Bec muttered under his breath as he hastily took off his winter jacket, the puffiness of the coat leading to more trouble than it was worth. Tossing it to the ground, Bec promptly turned around and ran back to the group, his mind racing with thoughts of certain peril and despair. What were they going to do? Would he even be helpful? Was this the day they would all die and join the abyss? His heart beat increased by ten-fold and Bec wasn't even close to the snake yet. They just /had/ to climb the fence and look at the wreckage. They couldn't've stayed on the road to Vegas and finished the quest out. Jonah was an American, he could just fly to Nevada whenever he wanted. When he got close enough to see the monster, Bec felt his throat tighten. Sure, they'd run into some monsters before, but nothing as up close as this one was. Plus the fact it looked so natural in its environment made it feel less of a fantasy as the gods seemed. He stood frozen ten feet off, looking up at the snake and its glowing eyes, afraid to make any kind of move and attract it's attention to him. Gods what am I going to do?! Bec thought to himself, feeling his pockets as he continued to look at the snake. There was nothing to help him, only some gum wrappers and tea. He really should have grabbed some kind of weapon from camp before he left- anything at this point might help. Or so he thought, as Bec broke his gaze at the snake to look at Jonah and Brooke and realized that their weapons seemed to have no affect on the snake. Brooke looked in pain, and there wasn't much a leap as to guessing why. He felt hopeless and still wished to run, but now that they were all there, the snake had them corned, even out in the desert. Where was the deus ex machina when you needed one!?
