Only now had Salem spotted Riley, pretty much frozen behind the unknown arachnid like thing. He had noticed her, but he probably couldn't recognize her in her cat form, which was equally nerve wracking and annoying at the same time. He probably didn't know it was her, nor did he probably care, but he had done the stupid typical Gryffindor thing and ran into the midst of the battle to fight this thing- But for what? Eily was gone, he wouldn't know that she was herself, so he could just turn tail and run... But was it because of her? Just being there? Human or cat? Looks like he does have a heart after all... huh.
But as soon as the creature turned it's gaze towards Riley, Salem felt her heart rate increase. She was safe up there, but he was in trouble. Big trouble. And the thing... It looked like it could kill no problem as it's multiple limbs swung around, bearing it's sharp teeth in Riley's direction. She could do the typical Slytherin thing, care about herself, ditch him and leave him to get hurt, or worse...
But that wasn't Salem, no matter what colours she wore or the symbol of the snake she stood for. She watched as Stupefy was used on the creature yet again, but this time- It was ready, and it was angry. She watched as it stumbled back a bit into the tree, shaking it slight so that she had to dig her claws into the slippery branch below her, shaking it head as it let out another one of it's disgusting battle cries, matching the sparks that shot up into the air, but as soon as the Gryffindor idiot taunted it, it turned it's full attention from herself in the tree towards him, letting out a low growl before taking off in his direction, It's okay, Riley's got this, he's- But as soon as she thought this, Riley slipped just as she had before, and once again Mad World went on repeat in her head, before speeding up and changing into a different tune, 'Holding Out For a Hero'.
And before she knew it, her little kitty paws were running down the branch, nimbly hopping onto the branch next to it, running down the edge of the branch, almost coming neck to neck with the monster below. It was almost in slow motion, the creature almost reached Riley lying on the ground, but as Salem reached the middle of the branch, she stopped. She couldn't even think about exposing herself as an animagus, for it was too close. So, without thinking, a second after stopping, she launched her little kitty self into the air, heading straight for the monster.
Mid air, right before she hit the monsters body, she morphed back into herself. If she wasn't so busy trying not to die, she would've remarked about how epic she was in that moment- Epic god Salem, but she had no time, immediately grabbing onto the monsters big head as she made contact, winding herself but still somehow managing to grab on, using her wand to damage the creatures eye, which was rather disgusting as it screamed out in pain, flailing around as it stumbled away from Riley, now focused on throwing the Slytherin girl off its back.
Salem held on pretty well for a while actually, her eyes screwed shut as she clutched on for dear life. All was well until one of the monsters limbs managed to reach back, and she felt it grab the back of her shirt and cloak, ripping her off its body as she let out a choking sound. The monster proceed to fling her aside, and her body flew helplessly a couple of meters or so, making impact with the same tree from earlier. Thankfully, she had lot some of her momentum mid flight, but she had still hit the tree pretty hard, the impact knocking her unconscious as her body fell to the floor, unmoving. The creature then, slowly but surely as if it had forgotten about Riley, made it's way towards her, licking it's lips hungrily.
Gryffindors didn't say die, but that didn't mean Slytherin's shared the same mentality.

{Doesn't help I do small text so it makes everything really small ahhh} {what cuties kms i love them already} {He was so sweet, using a towel to pat my head I love him ah} {DO IT i also wanna see what Riley looks like bruh so xD} {well maybe he could like rush over or something but like right before the monster about to hurt him, Professor Blackwood shows up? That or he hurt his ankle and couldn't move so like the monster almost gets to salem and prof. B shows up in time, either way prof. B saves the day! I'd say the monster is considered an arachnid, so Arania Exumai would work to send the monster flying and scared, which the Prof. knows, and then they all head back screee. Personally I prefer the second, because then Riley could feel like he owes her and it brings them to hang out more}

Up. He had to get up. He had to, before thatβ¦that thing came any closer; it was charging straight for him, emitting a furious growl or screech or whatever that noise it made could be described as. It was furious, completely and utterly furious. Good β the diversion tactic worked, but now, now he really, really, needed to get up and get out of here. Without thinking, Riley attempted to hurry back up to his feet. But before he could even hope to get an inch off the snowy ground, pain shot up his leg, keeping him locked down. βAh-!β Oh God, what? Why? He tried moving it again, but pushing it only made the pain worse, made him wince and inhale sharply and made him no less closer to getting up than heβd been before.
If this wasnβt bad enough, he realized heβd dropped his wand when he fell β knocked clean out of his hand with the surprise. Not far, a frantic look-around proved, but far enough that he didnβt think heβd be able to reach it in time. Heβd thought he was done for in that second. Done for. It was strange how in that moment all the panic seemed to disappear β the monster was only a few spare heartbeats behind but things were suddenly in slow motion. Gryffindors never say die, huh?
The rest happened too fast.
One moment Riley was there in the snow, hopelessly eyeing the hungry beast in front of him, and the next β the next he wasnβt even sure he was seeing right. The cat β that cat heβd thought wouldβve run off by now β was flying out of the tree and thenβ¦and then it wasβ¦Salem? His eyes grew round, and not a word could come out of his mouth as she drew its attention away from him and onto her. By stabbing it right in the eye with her wand. β¦Wh-what was she still doing here? Heβd worry about the fact that she was an animagus another time β for now, he (and she, if she had any sense) had her life to worry about.
It was hopeless to try standing but maybeβ¦maybe he could crawl to his wand and use it that way. Just as he was considering it, drawing his eyes away from the two for a moment, a loud βthudβ had him looking right back at them. A tree. Salem had been thrown against a damn tree andβ¦oh God, she wasnβt moving. The panic from earlier came rushing right back in. What now? What now? Should he even dare to look away so he could try crawling for his wand? Start yelling to see if it would come back towards him (and probably kill him this time, without Salem to dive from a tree)? The uncertainty was killing him, as well as the plain truth that either one could go horribly, horribly wrong. Just as he was about to explodeβ¦something else was crashing through the woods.
βArania Exumai!β A familiar voice boomed β the creature let out another inhuman shriek, this time more fearful than angry and disappeared into the woods. Rather than feeling relieved, Riley only felt numb.
Professor Blackwood was suddenly there, hurrying for Salem. Obviously, she needed attention more than he did since she was an unconscious and all. The rest of the students appeared too β drawn in by curiosity or urgency or simply following after the teacher.
βCome on β out! This detention is over. Iβll worry about the puffskeins myself β we need to get her outta here,β With an unconscious Salem now in his arms, Professor Blackwood glared at the students to start heading out of the forest. βYou alright, Hawkins?β
ββ¦Uh β yeahβ¦just. My ankle. I fell and-β He hesitated too long. The professor was then talking over him, instructing one or two of the others to help him to his feet. He let them do so without protest, only uttering a βthanksβ and βoh - my wand,β that sounded just as dazed as he felt.
The adrenaline from it all was starting to fade away, leaving Riley moreβ¦tired and confused than anything else. He was oddly quiet as they all headed back for the castle, even though his helpers were pestering him about what had happened. Heβd tell them later. His eyes looked up ahead, towards Professor Blackwood and Salem. He could only see her dangling legs from back here and in front of the professorβs broad figure, but that wasnβt a concern. He justβ¦he had a lot to ask her about later. He was too tired to worry about specifics at the moment.

{BRUH it's lovely, you don't need to worry about it or anything okay??}
Salem hadn't moved from her spot near the tree, slumped unconscious. In fact, she wasn't even aware of what was happened, nor did she slip into consciousness and back out once Professor Blackwood picked her up. The only sign she gave that she was even alive was shaky breath and small winces every once in a while, as if her body screamed with every bit of movement she made, from the ground, to the Professor's arms, and back towards the castle. She was just... Kind of like a doll, helpless as she lay limp in the big mans arms.
Meanwhile, Eily had been almost in hysterics when she spotted her best friend almost lifeless on the ground. She had let out a loud gasp of shock and hurried over, right away checking if she was alive. It was just like her to save the day- Or, at least, do something stupid and almost risk her life for another. Although the silver haired girl was a Slytherin, Eily always thought she could fit into any house, constantly reminding her throughout the various years they had known each other, 'You don't have to be 'just Slytherin'. We're in the 20th century, things are different now'. And each time Salem would think over it and give her a smile like she agreed, but almost always holding something back. It was admirable, but also dumb and almost always hurt herself in the end.
The group quickly made their way back towards the castle, Eily keeping up with Professor Blackwood to the best of her ability as her legs were quite small, but she was also crying, watching her friend with a worried gaze. Word spread quick of what happened as soon as they got into the school- At least, that both Salem and Riley had been injured by a creepy, unknown monster. There was no word that Salem saved Riley's life, but that was only because the only people who knew about that was the two of them, and neither were talking about it right now for their own different reasons.
Once they arrived in the infirmary, two nurses and a head nurse rushed Professor Blackwood over to one of the cots, ordering him to set down Salem and then ushering him away so that they could get to work, pulling the curtains around her little cot area so that they had some privacy. Another nurse came over a couple moments later to Riley, giving Salem's cot a nervous glance, before guiding him over to his own cot that was diagonally across from Salem's. She cared to his foot for a while, doing whatever the nurse needed to do, wrapped it up, and then gave him a potion to drink while he healed, telling him he may need to spend the night but he should probably be able to get around the next day. That was magic, though. It worked quick, helping those who were hurt heal fast, maybe even instantly if there was a spell for it.
But, that being said, the curtain didn't get pulled from Salem's cot even after an hour. Two hours. Two of the nurses left the curtain, but didn't say anything. Eily was nervously pacing up and down the infirmary. She hadn't been asked to leave, nor did she intend to. Three hours. She hadn't even spoken to Riley the whole time, too nervous to focus on anything else. Some Slytherin girls came by at one point, nervously chit chatting with Eily before leaving as well. Four hours. Dinner had begun, but Eily didn't leave, however one nurse brought her and the other patients, which was literally Riley and another kid who got badly pranked, some food. And then, at about the time when dinner would be ending, the curtain was finally drawn back, and the nurse looked relieved, if a bit surprised by Eily's immediate bombardment of questions, but relieved.
Turns out, it was a miracle Salem wasn't more hurt than she was. Her body was bruised badly and some of her ribs cracked, maybe even broken. What had taken them so long was making sure she wasn't having any major internal bleeding, seeing as one point she had woken up in a haze and coughed up some blood onto her blanket before passing back out, but once they had been sure that the potion they had practically shoved down her throat was working, all was well. They had changed her into infirmary pjs and bound her torso so she could heal faster, as well as clipped back her silver hair so it wouldn't get in the way, but other than that, it almost looked like she was peacefully sleeping, eyebrows creasing every bit when she breathed heavier than usual, but than they would relax again, as would she.
The doctors predicted she wouldn't wake up until the next day, even telling Eily to go home, but the Hufflepuff refused to leave her friend, pulling up a chair beside her and forking through her food that had gone cold a while ago. She knew that she most likely wouldn't wake up, but Eily knew Salem was strong, and unpredictable. And, seeing as best friends knew best, not long after she sat down, Salem woke up.
She could hardly even tell she was awake, let alone alive. Half of her believed she was in heaven when her conciousness came to, though right when she full became aware of the fact she was indeed awake, the throbbing and soreness in her body, and the fact there was no hot boy to welcome her to into heaven, confirmed that she was definitely not dead, which was good. She didn't die. She made it. Her eyes slid open, everything around her hazy as she squinted them, trying to get a good look around the room, The infirmary?... It made sense, though, seeing as the last thing she remembered was getting flung across the forest floor. How long had she been out? For days? Week? A month?
Or maybe just a couple hours. Yah, that too.
Once the infirmary focused in her vision, she grunted quietly, narrowing her eyes as if half asleep, "Oh my gosh... What the hell happened." she groaned, immediately met with a loud squeak from her friend beside her, which almost made her jump out of her skin. Eily, however, didn't care, reaching over to give her friend a hug, though Salem just let out a heavy breath of disapproval as her very gentle touch sent shocks of pain down her spine, causing Eily to retract and laughed awkwardly, before grinning, tears brimming at her eyes.
"I'm so glad you're awake, Salem. I was so worried something terrible happened." She cried dramatically, grabbing a little packet of wipes off the cupboard and reached forward to wipe her friends teared stained makeup off, which Salem didn't object too.
Salem looked over at her friend and smiled, Hufflepuffs are loyal... Eily was always loyal, and she appreciated it more than ever. She tried to push herself into an upward position to talk to her, but ending up crying out very softly at the sharp pains and throbbing that came with her moving, not able to hold it back. Eily just frowned and pushed her back, "Here, you don't move, okay?" She then gathered pillows from around the infirmary, stuffing it under Salem back/head until she was slightly sitting up, still lying down. She then frowned, looking at her, "I should be asking you what happened. How'd you get thrown into a tree so easily?"
Salem paused, thinking back at it for a couple moments. She had been... Protecting Riley. Riley. Riley. "Where's Riley? Is he okay? Did the monster eat him?" she suddenly asked in a concerned tone, wincing at her pain from moving her head around, but otherwise than that, she was okay.
{I hope this is okay~}

{wow riley doesn't know how to talk anymore abkgsgd get yourself together boi}
Sitting in the infirmary for hours upon hours was grueling.
Bored out of his mind, and feeling like he really didnβt need to be here for one injured ankle, Riley quietly stared out the castle window, onto the snowy grounds, into the Forbidden Forest. His frown deepened at the reminder; no, he wasnβt really βboredβ per say. He wasβ¦ Against his will, his eyes discreetly slid over to the cot diagonal his. Eily was still faithfully at her side (why she wanted to stay here, in silence, for hours was beyond him but he couldnβt help admiring her for it), but she had been unconscious this whole time.
Out cold when Professor Blackwood brought her in, dead to the world when all the nurses had been in here and visitors came by, and still sleeping now. Riley wasnβt sure if it was a good sign or not (for his own sake, heβd assume it was good because he was sure they wouldnβt have bothered opening her curtains if something was seriously wrong) but a tiny part of him was glad she hadnβt woken up yet. After all, he had a lot of things to say to her, and no idea how to start.
Sheβd saved him β that was blatantly clear. She didnβt have to, but she did. And it wasnβt even about being a Slytherin at this point β no, any decent human being wouldβve done what she did. Not even snakes were that heartless. Butβ¦but it didnβt sit right with him, knowing theyβd been on the verge of exchanging blows just before the attack. How was he supposed to look at her the same way now? How was he supposed to look at the girl whoβd saved his life and be like βI still hate you, by the way, since youβre still a Slytherin and allβ? But wait β he hadnβt even hated her before, had he? No, heβd been wary and threw up a guarded wall between them butβ¦
Agh, this is why he shouldnβt be allowed to sit in one place for hours β too much thinking.
And his friends had already come and gone (one left him a book for βentertainmentβ but he hadnβt touched it), his sister too (whoβd been stuttering apologies and insisting she hadnβt told their parents after all), and he didnβt even want to try speaking to Eily.
The silence was killing him.
Many minutes, maybe even another hour later, he finally heard her. At Eilyβs responding squeal, Riley slowly sat up and looked over at them again. She was awake. Clearly in pain, for now at least, but she was awake. His eyes narrowed β contemplatively β and he didnβt say or do anything but quietly watch the girlsβ exchange. He needed to talk to Salem. But he didnβt want to have to involve Eily tooβ¦ He usually wasnβt the kind of person who cared how his words or actions came across to others (if he was aware of the other personβs feelings in the first place) but for some reason he couldnβt explain, he really, really, didnβt want an audience.
She was mentioning him now; it surprised him, though it really shouldnβt have.
βUnfortunately for you, Iβm still alive,β Riley replied, loudly, before Eily could answer for him. The wariness prickled inside of him all over again, akin to the way it had been before they'd run off into the forest. He bit the inside of his cheek, uncertain and finding himself at an unusual loss for words. He should ask "are you okay?" but his pride wouldn't let him, and he really didn't need to know anyway when he could see for himself.
"Professor Blackwood went to take care of that monster, by the way. So no one else ends up like..." You. "In here." He didn't know why he felt the need to tell her that, but he had.

{fml i had some reply written up and accidentally closed the tab} {Eily gtfo the kiddies need to talk rn}
Salem turned her green gaze slowly over to look at the Gryffindor boy, also followed by Eily's quick head turn to look at him, mouth still slightly open as if she was about to tell Salem where the heck Riley was. The Slytherin girl's lips pulled into a thin line that was almost a frown, kind of feeling stung a little at how he talked to her about him still being alive, though her eyes instantly filled with relief. Unfortunately, she only looked at him for a moment before looking down at her feet, wiggling her toes under the blanket, "... Good." she said quietly in reply, too tired to shoot something back at him or say some goofy in a reply. She looked and felt the same way- Disgusting. With all her makeup wiped off, she looked tired and not like herself, mascara smudged under her eyes and her freckles and childlike round eyes on display for all to see. All, being in this case, Riley, Eily, and the random kid who was too busy sleeping in the corner.
Eily narrowed her eyes at Riley and frowned. He hadn't said one thing when they got in there, and honestly, she was sick and tired of him. From what she understood, Salem had done something to help him out of the situation, and he was just being a jerk face again. She huffed in frustration, turning back to look at Salem, "What exactly happened, anyways?" she asked, though it was more like a demand, the warning look of 'if you lie to me, I will know' written all over her face as she looked at her best friend, who didn't look up for a couple moments, as if she was thinking.
She really didn't know if she wanted to tell Eily what happened. If Riley hadn't spoken about it, she assumed he didn't, either. She turned her gaze up towards her friend and smiled tiredly, little dimples peaking out on her cheeks as she did so, "It's no big deal, I--" she was going to tell Eily something that was completely bull crap, but paused, remembering something really important. Didn't Riley know now that she was an animagus? She felt her heart beat increase from anxiety that suddenly rose up in her chest, her happy, push off look being replaced with alarm. However, the look soon disappeared, and she smiled again, cocking her head to the side this time and closing her eyes, "It's no big deal, really."
Eily looked curious about what she was going to say, but before she could force the answer out of her best friend, the nurse walked from the office, eyes immediately landing on Eily as she frowned, walking over to Salem's bedside, "Excuse me, Miss, I'm gonna have to ask you head back to your common room now. It'll be curfew soon." she said, her voice hinting that she didn't want to be argued with.
Eily's mouth once again clamped down as before, nodding in reply to the nurse, then looking at her friend, "You, sleep and get better. I better be getting a full explanation in the morning." she demanded, before getting to her feet and heading out the door, giving Riley a glance as she went by. The nurse than busied Salem for a bit, as her how she felt and making sure she was okay, to which Salem chatted with her for a bit, before she too headed to the back room. And then, it was totally and completely silent- An awkward silence especially since Salem realized Eily had left the pillows propping her up, and she couldn't lie back down to sleep.
She tried to reach around behind her and pull out a pillow or two to toss away, but even moving her body slightly caused her to either wince in pain, let out a small harsh breath of air, or hiss in between her teeth, even trying to slid down with an awkward, wide eye'd look on her face, but it just ended up with her almost falling off her cot. She ended up not being able to move any of the pillows and just causing herself more pain, but now she couldn't lie down and avoid talking to Riley. Actually, she could hardly even avoid looking at him- Every few minutes or so, her eyes would drag over, or she would find herself just naturally looking in his direction, only to advert her eyes quickly away from him, not really wanting to deal with his hostile crap. Hopefully, after this, they would never, ever talk again, and he would just leave her alone in reward for her bravery, even though really, he was just judging her for who she really was, ... It's not like anyone wants to see the real me, anyways.
Her expression suddenly turned to that of upset, or bothered, and she managed to turn her body to the side, with some grunts of pain, but she was now facing away from Riley, squeezing her eyes shut as to not cry. She hated crying with other people around, like despised it. She almost always hid her feelings, getting rid of it with temporary things, like the internet, for example. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option at the moment.
{Omg this is bad I'm sorry}

{i'm sorry this post is bad ughugh ;-; }
It was just a jokeβ¦
At Salemβs frown and Eilyβs glare, Riley inwardly shrunk a bit. His mouth pulled into a frown of his own, and he looked away from the two girls, bothered by how upset they clearly were. Well, at least in Salemβs case it could easily just be that she was tired and hurt and in no mood for even a dark little joke. Eily thoughβ¦he had no idea what her problem was. She hadnβt bothered to talk to him the whole time either, too busy worrying over Salem like a mother hen and now she had the audacity to look offended that he finally said something β in regards to his own wellbeing at that. To think his first thought upon seeing her that day was that she was cuteβ¦ He totally took back that statement now. The sooner she left the infirmary, and him, the happier heβd be.
They werenβt talking to him anyways, and he was fine with that, his gaze boredly sliding toward the window once more but his ears attentive to their conversation. Eily was asking about what had happened back in the Forbidden Forest (the spider-like monster appeared unbidden in his head, causing him to wince just slightly) and Salem was brushing it off, claiming it was no big deal. His brow arched at that, a near-silent snort escaping him. That was a blatant lie. βNo big dealβ wouldnβt have sent her here for hours. βNo big dealβ wouldnβt have caused her to still evidently be in pain like this, with pillows stacked behind her and her body unconsciously wincing at the tiniest of movements. But he wouldnβt say anything, even if he wanted to speak over Eily. Tempting, butβ¦he wasnβt going to give the Hufflepuff the satisfaction of hearing the whole truth either. No, he had to talk to Salem, and Salem only, about thatβ¦
As if his wishes had finally been granted, the nurse appeared to usher the girl away for the night. Night. It was already nightβ¦Riley suddenly wondered how late it actually was. Detention had been after classes, of course, and theyβd had about an hour or two left of daylight by the time theyβd gone out to the forest. Regardless, Eily was gone soon enough (sending him a look that he boldly returned as she swept out the door) and the infirmary fell back into the silence it had been before Salem woke up. But nowβ¦there was an undeniable awkwardness in the air.
Rileyβs eyes slid towards Salem, clearly uncomfortable and trying to look away from him, but failing that seeing how the pillows propped her up and toward him. He watched, not without sympathy as she struggled to get cozy and not slide off her cot, as she finally managed to get on her side and avoid his gaze. He hated how bad he felt in this moment, knowing that in some roundabout way this was his fault for her having to save him. The agonizing silence continued on for a few more moments, as he struggled with words, struggled with the idea of saying anything at all when it would be much easier to just turn over and go to sleep.
And then β
βSalemβ¦β he started, his voice uncharacteristically wavering. He exhaled, almost nervously, but forced himself to look at her again even though she was still on her side and thus unable to see the conflicting emotions written all over his face. A snake, he was about to be honest and grateful toward a snake.
βUhβ¦thanks, by the way. Forβ¦you know. I β I mean it. As a person, not just as a Gryffindor. Andβ¦Iβm sorry if I upset you back there, too.β And then, because he was himself, because he preferred lighter topics than this, he continued. βI gotta say I was pretty shocked when you flung yourself out of the tree and onto that thingβs head though - an animagus, huh? You donβt meet very many of thoseβ¦registered, I hope?β

Salem was almost surprised when her name echoed into the darkness, wondering who could be addressing her. She sniffled quietly, quickly wiping her eyes with her hand without hurting her body. It was a males voice, and it was wavering, so it's couldn't be anybody elses in the room. The kid that had the allergic reaction was passed out in the corner, and Riley... Riley didn't care, nor would she ever expect a strong, brave Gryffindor like him to get nervous, especially when talking to someone as lowly as her, a Slytherin.
But the voice rang out again, this time thanking her and apologizing her at the exact time for two things only he would know about- The fact she had risked her life to save him and apologizing for what he had said. They were also two things she would never have expected to come out of his mouth, but she was hearing it loud and clear, if a bit nervous, as he seperated himself from his house and thanked her as a person, not as a boy wearing red and gold. She tried to look back over her shoulder at him, but even moving her body a bit without fully turning around caused her to make some kind of uncomfortable noise from the pain. It was getting more numb the more she was awake, which she could tell was the potion working away in her body, but it still hurt.
It wasn't until he brought up the fact that she was an animagus that her eyes went wide, Bruh. She sighed a little bit and pushed herself to the side, groaning slightly as she managed to turn back onto her back, taking some deep breathes to stop the throbbing pain that rose in her chest from getting too extreme, and but once she was done with gathering back her composure, she lifted a finger to her lips and went 'shhhh', giving him a look that wasn't mean nor was it angry, but instead guilty and worried, "I haven't... Not yet. I've been meaning to, but between going to Hogwarts and being home, there's not really enough time to head down to the Ministry." she explained, looking down at her feet like she did earlier, "... I've really been meaning to, I swear. Just... My Dad has no clue how to get there, and I don't really either." she added, not really explaining why.
But, of course, it might have been obvious, at least one half. Her Dad was a muggle. He and her mother had been married up until Salem was born, and had split up before the young girl could even remember them being together. She'd been raised through muggle ways all her life, but she'd heard stories that her mom was vain and kind of, well, evil, while her dad was a bumbling, sweet mess. How the two had ever fallen in love and produced her, she'd never know. Her father would, sometimes when she was younger, get sad that she had left, but than Salem would make it all better for him, whether it be making him cookies and getting extremely messy in the process, digging up worms and getting extremely messy in the process, or making him a mud pie and getting even more messy in the process. Whichever, her dad would always perk up and laugh before carrying her off for a bath. She was, and would always be, Daddy's little girl.
"Is your foot okay?" she suddenly asked him, changing the subject from her and onto him, eyeing up his feet under the blankets. Now was not the time to be rude or mean, but just be herself. And herself was just about the same when it came to heavy topics- She didn't like them, "I'm kind of disappointed you didn't dab when you fell." she said, a weak but playful smile pulling at her now natural coloured lips, seeing as the black lipstick had been wiped away. She hoped he didn't take too much offense to her playing around, but ust let them be... People, for now. Because they were, in the end, people. And she had saved his life as a person- Or a cat, but that wasn't the point. Why was the whole house thing so important anyways? She had no clue.

{heyhey~ my posts will probs shorten soon enough too abfsgd i'm just so rambley lately idk why c'x btw, do you maybe wanna skip soon? but like...maybe like a few weeks/a month later so they're "friends" and we can rp them more true to character? and maybe on the verge of crushing a lil bit?
She didnβt verbally react for the longest time, or at least it felt that way. Salem visibly shifted at his words, but not enough so that he could see her face (honestly, he wasnβt sure if he was very willing to look her in the eye right now anyway), a small pained whimper escaping her from the effort. Rileyβs brows furrowed, his uncomfortable gaze dropping from her. Sheβd heard him; he had no doubt of that. Butβ¦maybe she just didnβt want to linger on it, or think about it, or mention it all. He wouldnβt blame her for it. Sheβd been flung against a tree and had been unconscious for hours, after all. Maybe he shouldβve waited until tomorrow to bring this up. But, quite honestlyβ¦the deep, inner sense of guilt stirring inside him probably wouldnβt have let him rest easy until then.
And then sheβd finally turned around completely to face him β it was hard to watch, admittedly. The pain on her face and the labored breathsβ¦ Riley, still frowning, couldnβt help quirking an eyebrow at her admittance that she wasnβt actually a registered animagus. Somehowβ¦he didnβt find that too terribly shocking. It was pretty brave of her to risk it under Hogwarts supervisionβ though. He wondered how many people knew about it, other than himβ¦ Probably Eily at least, since she evidently clung to the Slytherin girl like a burr.
βYou donβt know where the Ministry is?β he asked in an undertone, more of a rhetorical question than anything, finding that even more surprising than the whole animagus deal. Her dad didnβt either? A Slytherin should know thoughβ¦right? He only knew because of a handful of pureblood friends heβd had and visited with over the summers; his parents, woefully ignorant of most of wizard culture (they still struggled with house names sometimes, it was hilarious) were just as clueless as her dad, and she, apparently was. βHuhβ¦β
He almost offered to show her some time, over break or something maybe, but stopped himself before he could cross that line. There wasnβt any reason to go that far, even if she had saved his lifeβ¦itβd be easier to repay her sooner rather than later. No need to hold it off until break.
Salemβs sudden inquiry about his own health caught him off guard, drawing him out of his thoughts with a start.
βWhat β this?β Riley dismissively gestured toward his bound-up foot. An amused βtchh!β left his mouth as she proposed that he shouldβve dabbed on the way down β did she even know that he knew what she was talking about? βTrue, probably wouldβve helped me save face if nothing else. You mustβve seen my face when I fellβ¦β Looked like a mouse caught in a trap or a deer in headlights, he was pretty sure. βBut nah, itβs fineβ¦the medicineβs helped a lot already and Iβll be able to get out of here in the morning.β
A pause and then, a near wolfish grin appeared on his face. βDabbing, though? How do you know what that is, snake girl? I saw you trip earlier, you know.β Riley, too amused to go back to the darker topics at hand, set his chin in his head and looked imploring back at her. βAnd then after that you mentioned Frozen too β please donβt ever mention that song again while Iβm in earshot by the way. So, whatβs your deal? I thoughtβ¦β Back to this house topic again, dammit, he didnβt mean to but there it was rearing its head and shoving its way between them even here, βThat a pureblood Slytherin wouldnβt know anything about muggle stuff like thatβ¦most Slytherins are pureblood, arenβt they?β

{LOL Rambling personally is something I try to avoid?? So that's why I wanna shorten them a bit, but your posts have been fine don't even worry xD} {UHM yes. Yes yes???? And like they're like crushing but not like denial you know??? Like *thinks something* what no thats not possible bye}
Salem nodded even though his question was rhetorical, pursing her lips together. The only reason why she'd gotten away with it for so long was because she was good at sneaking around and keeping secrets quiet, and the fact that she actually had a cat named Nala that looked like her animagus form. The only difference between her and her cat was the patch of silver on the back of her neck from that fact that she had dyed her hair, but other than that, the same green eyes and black fur, even they way they walked. Her cat usually appeared around the time she needed to go somewhere, but not all the time. She was probably meowing to be accepted into her dorm room right now without her being there, and her dorm mates might let her in, but she doubted that due to the fact she may be wailing for some of the night about her absence. She hopefully would make her way down in the middle of the night or morning... Hopefully.
Even so, she didn't regret turning herself into an animagus, even if it was risky. It took her all of summer pretty much, holding that stupid mandrake leaf in her mouth and reciting the same line every day, and then there was the potion. She had used all her knowledge from class, and even though they sometimes trained those in the school to become animagi, she didn't want to be held down by the law. She was still her mothers daughter, after all, and it was fun to use her other form to get out during the night or even nap in a high spot during class. No one questioned her and so far only Eily, and now Riley, knew to her knowledge.
She smirked when he dismissed the fact his foot was bound up, crossing her arms carefully over herself and leaning back into the pillows. Honestly, if Riley hadn't known what a dab was, she probably would've just dabbed herself, When in doubt, dab it out. She couldn't count the number of times she had dabbed to exit a conversation, whether it a be a fake sneeze into a dab or so on. It usually either made people laugh or super confused, and forget about the topic of which they were just talking about, "Let's just say if I had posted a picture of your fall on the internet, everyone would be re blogging it." she said with a small laugh, which she immediately regretted, holding a hand to her chest for a moment. She smiled a tired smile at him, glancing down at his foot again, "Good, glad to hear it."
Her eyebrows raised at the look that took over his face, and her lips immediately pulled upwards into a grin, but more of a silly one, maybe even sly but just more goofy.
Of course he was asking her about these things, everyone expected Slytherins to be these perfect little pure bloods. Even she was surprised when she was sorted into the house, convinced she would be okay due to the fact her dad was a muggle, but it was almost as if her mother had paved her future in the house. Sometimes she just saw it as she was pure enough for herself and her father, "Actually... I'm a mutt, y'know? Half one, and half the other." she said, holding her hands in the hair moving them back and forth, as if showing she what she was, "My moms a witch, and my dad's a muggle. I live with my dad." she added, pushing some loose strands of silver hair behind her ear and shrugging slightly. She wouldn't even mention who her mom was. Riley and her had just started talking without fighting, but if she actually mentioned her mothers name, there was a possibility he might not even look at her ever again, due to his judgmental way of thinking.
"But I am still a snake, I guess. I mean, I wear green every day, so I guess I just have to be a Slytherin. Maybe I should try some blue tomorrow... Do you think I would pass off well as a Ravenclaw?" she said, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she smirked at Riley, "Y'know what they say, Riley... Assuming makes an @ss out of you and me." she teased, not trying to be mean but just playful, in a way. She had assumed upon him too, to be honest, so she was a hypocrite if she was actually being serious, Hopefully he doesn't pull a 'I'm a ferior Gryffindor move' on me. She hoped he didn't, because she really didn't want to look at him that way at all.
