|| Taya ||
Taya had expected her to reply, of course. She had started the conversation in the first place. But talking, even talking about the most simple of things, had always been more of a complication to her than it was to most other people.
''Well, what are you looking for?'' Taya asked nervously, fiddling with a silver and blue beaded bracelet around her right wrist. As a frequent visitor, Taya knew the library well. Maybe she'd be able to find what this girl was searching for, if it wasn't in the restricted section.
''You know, I'm sure you could find a way to get into the restricted section if you really wanted to,'' she added, ''you could come in the night or something?''
Taya wasn't exactly a rulebreaker. She'd never even attempted to get into the restricted section of the library before, despite being an avid reader. It was out of bounds and she respected that, although she sometimes wanted to flick through one or two of the books there.

Elara Faireborne's broom was most definitely acting up.
She'd been getting some flying practise in for Quidditch, taking some time to fly her broom around a bit outside, over by the lake. The lake was always good to practise over because it allowed for plenty of flying space. Of course, she didn't fly too far out, knowing that she didn't want to crash her broom into those waters.
But then her broom started misbehaving, and she lost control, finding herself nosediving towards the water. She pulled her broom upwards just in time, but now realised she was heading straight in the direction of three figures - was it Paxton, Zacharie, and Theresa? She thought she'd seen them when she came out but the broom was moving too fast for her to tell who it was.
"Look out!" she shouted in warning as she aimed slightly away from the group, now mainly focussing on slowing the broom down so she could stop. Luckily she knew how to do this and the broom began to gradually slow to the point where she could return safely to the ground.
Her hair wasn't in a bun today and had been down, so was now a little frizzy, having been flying behind her the whole time she was in the air. Now she was on the ground she began to smooth it down, trying to act a lot calmer than she was though her heaving chest clearly gave her away to the group of three.
"Sorry about giving you all such a fright," Elara apologised, frowning at her broom "It really is time for a new broom"

Margot
She probably had to tell someone. Someone had to know eventually, and so she heaved a soft sigh and walked over to the girl, crossing her arms over her chest and shifting her weight nervously. Telling someone was good, right? When she really thought about it, Cyrus and Zacharie weren't any good to confide in. And if this girl did know anything, it would definitely help her.
"Uh, I mean," she made a vague gesture and swallowed. "I'm looking for a book about spontaneously losing magic. Like...being unable to do anything? Lack of wand response, not even simple spells...I'd look at Squibs but it's not quite like that. It's not being a witch and just not being able to do magic, it's magic being gone, when it was there before."
It sounded stupid to say out loud. Oh man. This girl was gonna laugh at her, wasn't she? She looked away quickly and crossed her arms a little tighter.
"Also, nice to meet you. I'm Margot."
Paxton & Theresa & Zacharie
For a moment, the twins simply exchanged a glance, before Paxton shrugged lightly and shoved his hands into the pocket of his skinny jeans (worn under his robes because he was a rebellious soul who didn't care for uniform regulations) and tilted his head to the side, a single eyebrow raised.
"You didn't give us a fright, actually," he said smoothly, "but it certainly is time for you to get a new broom. If you were on my team, you'd have to borrow a school broom - that's highly dangerous."
And so, his Captain-y senses came out. It was with a deep sigh that Tessa shoved her brother firmly and smiled warmly at Elara, though her single raised eyebrow was almost the spitting image of her brother's. She then stood on his foot for extra measure, and grinned a little at the resulting gasp.
"Hey, Elara!" she chirped, putting her hands on her hips. Considering that Tessa had been a Chaser on the team since she could've first tried out, it was natural that she recognised the current Captain. "Excuse him, it might be surprising but he's much worse off the pitch than he is on it."
Considering that Paxton was actually nice when he was on the pitch to disguise the sneaky Slytherin tactics, it was a lot to say. Her brother rolled his eyes and skipped another stone over the water, watching as a hand reached up, grabbed it, and pulled it down. He barely glanced at Elara, really.
Whereas, behind them, Zacharie was watching without much of an opinion. He hadn't been frightened either, but that was because not many things did frighten him, and if they did, then he actively sought them out; though that was a hidden thing. He simply snorted and went back to his homework, working over it with practiced ease.

"Yes, thank you, Paxton. Considering I nearly plunged into the lake I would say that I'm well aware that I now need to borrow a school broom." Elara had replied, just as smoothly as the way he had spoken to her.
But then Tessa had spoken to her, and Elara shot her teammate a friendly smile "Hey, Tessa. Good to see you. And it probably should be surprising, but it honestly isn't. Thankfully I get the benefit in that most of my time spent with him is on the pitch."
As she spoke, she was fixing her now-detangled hair into its trademark bun, since she fully intended to borrow a school broom and get some more practise in as soon as possible. Elara didn't mess around or waste any time, even if her broom was broken.
"We've got practise in a couple of days, remember? You're doing great at the moment, but I've got some things planned for you to work on." Elara smiled "I've made sure that everyone has some targets to reach before the tournaments get underway."
She wasn't going to say too much, considering that Paxton, the Captain of another team, no less, was standing right by them and Elara wasn't going to give away what she had lined up for Tessa to work on. I mean, Paxton was her twin, he knew most of Tessa's weaknesses in Quidditch, but Elara didn't feel like she needed to give him any more information than he already had. That would be an unfair advantage.
Elara had her own things to work on, mainly speed and accuracy on the broom, which was why she had been out practising over the lake, so she could have plenty of space to build up some speed. But, obviously, that had gone awry. But hopefully with a borrowed school broom she could do the same. I mean, really, it shouldn't make any difference if she was using a school broom or not - it was all about the skill. You could have the best broom in the world and be awful on it, or you could have a terrible broom and be excellent on it. It all depended on the rider.

Paxton & Theresa
Considering that the two were pureblood and they were from a Quidditch-heavy family, the two had played together over the Summer alongside some older friends; which meant that Paxton had already managed to get above Tessa. Considering he was the Keeper, too, it meant that things were harder on Tessa. She supposed she had to expect that - but they always needed another Chaser. Sometimes, she knew, Paxton played the Seeker role during the Summer just because their snitches were evil little things - but aside from that...well, people really didn't need to know. Especially not her own Captain.
So she grinned and gave a two-fingered salute that she'd picked up from her brother years ago.
"Yes ma'am. I got a new broom over the Summer; the newest model of the Firebolt, and I've been practicing with it. It's pretty nice, honestly," she grinned lightly, "gotta appreciate those relatives who are hella guilty about everything."
She, of course, did not mention that Paxton had an off-brand but equally powerful broom. That would be unfair. She didn't know why but she felt like protecting her twin when it came to these matters - and considering that she had picked up her twin's acting abilities, it was just one of those things.
Paxton, of course, simply continued to skip stones. He squinted each time as he identified who (or what) came up to collect the stones, and continued without paying too much attention to the girls next to him. He was aware of Tessa glancing to him to make sure he was still there from time to time, but if he held any interest in Elara, then he didn't show it.
Honestly, he didn't care about learning the inside workings of other teams. He cared more about building up his team. So far, he was an excellent Quidditch player, and his family were convinced that he'd be able to play for England. Or Egypt! He wanted to play for Egypt, but he knew that England was a more realistic goal considering he lived in England. Either way, it was the sports life that called to him and the sports life that most people thought he'd get into, whereas Tessa wasn't quite sure. She knew that teaching was a potential strong point, but when compared to her brother with Quidditch, she was average. Maybe just above that.

|| Taya ||
Taya listened to the other girl, her head tilted to the side slightly and her eyes narrowed as she tried to understand. She'd never had to study this sort of stuff. Was it even a thing? She was pretty sure no witch or wizard has ever lost their magic randomly, without being a Squib, but she wasn't the most knowledgable student. She was more of a fictional-book reader, non-fiction bored her, with the exception of books on magical creatures, which fascinated her.
''Erm...I'm not sure I know a book on that,'' she mumbled, slightly embarrassed that she'd thought she would in the first place, ''maybe it is in the restricted section? Why do you need it, anyway?''
As she asked this, thoughts bubbled around her head, and Taya became increasingly interested. Why did this girl want to know about this? She couldn't have just thought of such a situation. She must know someone who had this occur to them...or it could have happened to Margot herself.
''I'm Taya,'' she added, her expression of confusion transforming into a kind of forced smile.

Margot
The idea of sneaking into the Restricted Section wasn't what Margot wanted. She knew that some of the books were loud, or some of them held dark secrets, or whatever. She really, really did not want to go in there. She glanced over at the section, hidden behind its fencing, and then refocused on the girl. Taya. That was a nice name, but she couldn't dwell on it very long, because she had to figure out an explanation.
"Nice to meet you Taya, despite the circumstances," she gave what could've been a smile but ended up as more of a grimace, and she ducked her head a little.
Telling the truth had consequences, but lying also had consequences. She ran an agitated hand through her hair, catching on some tangles that she'd missed that morning. She could just say it. Come out and say it. She'd said worse.
"I think, um," she pitched her voice down a little and looked away, "my magic is gone. I can't do anything - I've been refusing to do things in classes because it won't work."

((Thanks for the reminder!))
The rain continued, but at a slightly lessened pace compared to the formerly swift drumbeat against the glass. A glint of sun was showing through the clouds, promising to chase away the storm clouds.
The moment Professor [Blankity Blank] announced, "Dismissed," Kaitlyn was slamming her Transfiguration book shut. The noise was lost in the echo of chairs scraping backwards and voices bursting into eager conversation. If I have to stay in a classroom for another second, she thought, I will melt through the floor from agony. The Slytherin girl sprung from her chair, raced toward the door, and yanked it open eagerly.
"Free!" she yelled excitedly into the empty hallway. A few students behind her made noises of agreement.
It took her a few minutes to notice the brightly-colored hair of a girl leaning against the corridor wall. "Tori?" Kaitlyn asked in puzzlement. "What are you doing here?"
Not that she wasn't happy to see her.

|| Taya ||
''Nice to meet you, too,'' Taya replied, smiling slightly. She stood and listened to Margot as the Ravenclaw told her about the circumstances, trying to keep eye contact and seem like an ordinary person, but failing miserably.
Once Margot had finished talking, the Hufflepuff frowned suspiciously, peering behind Margot and expecting to see a gaggle of girls giggling. She was probably being pranked...it wasn't the first time. Being such a quiet individual, she was an easy target, but she had thought people just left her alone now, pranking usually stopped after second year.
When Taya didn't spot any friends laughing or watching, she turned her gaze back to Margot. She didn't look like the sort of person that would run around tricking people, and Taya had never really thought of Margot as a very extroverted individual, but then again she didn't know her well at all, and was barely ever in her classes. Still, it was now most likely she was telling the truth, and for a moment Taya didn't know what to say.
''Well, erm, have you told anyone else?'' she asked, hopefully. She didn't want to be the one to help deal with all this drama, if she was completely honest, but she wasn't the sort of person that would leave Margot to deal with it alone, either.
''If not, I suggest you tell a member of staff,'' she added, shrugging, ''or you could get your wand checked out. There could be something snapped inside or something like that. It could be broken...you never know.''

"Nice to see you too" Tori responded wryly, a smirk on her face as she watched her friend fly out of the door. It took her awhile to be noticed even with her crazy hair- but that was alright. She was never really noticed much in the first place anyways. "Potions class was canceled- some kids potion turned to a gas, made a few students pass out, so we where dismissed early." She explained as the two walked along the hallway. "Anyway- thats not why Im here. Im here because I want to know about this duel- what happened? Do you need any help?" She asked, voice lowering slightly, head turning inwards, an indicator to anyone else that it was a conversation for just the two of them.

He wanted to play for Egypt, but he knew that England was a more realistic goal considering he lived in England. She knew that teaching was a potential strong point, but when compared to her brother with Quidditch, she was average. Maybe just above that. Elara smiled "Good on you, Tessa. I should probably be looking at investing in something a little more high-brand myself, considering how much this one keeps messing up. You get what you pay for, after all. Anyway, make sure you get plenty of practise in on that broom of yours. I'm hoping we'll have a shot at winning this year if everyone settles down and puts some work in." Elara had plenty of faith that, with some coaching, Tessa could become an excellent Quidditch player, rivalling or surpassing her brother. She had the potential, Elara was just trying to find a way to unlock it, to give her the confidence she needed to be the truly exceptional Quidditch player the Hufflepuff team needed. To most people, all of this stuff didn't matter, but to Elara it was vital. She wanted a career in professional Quidditch, and one of the best ways to do that was to create a stir, to get yourself noticed. To put yourself on the map. So when she'd been sorted into Hufflepuff back when she was eleven, she had seen the opportunity before her. A team who was overlooked, who didn't get trophies or awards. Elara had the chance to make strides here, to be the one who created upsets on the scoreboards, whose team won trophies. She wanted to be the one to bring the Hufflepuff Quidditch team out of obscurity and into the limelight. Elara might not have been Slytherin, but she was cunning enough to spot opportunities when she saw them. But then maybe it wouldn't work. After all, she didn't have long to get the team up to scratch, good enough to potentially play against Gryffindor or Slytherin. Beating Ravenclaw wasn't too difficult - their team had excellent strategy but their play wasn't always strong. But the other two? Gryffindor were strong players, even if their major fault was risky plays that didn't always play off. Slytherin were often aggressive and competitive, sometimes to the point of arrogance, but generally not. Gryffindor and Slytherin were the main competitors, the two it always came down to every year. Elara could only pray that she made this year different.
