Geoffrey despised the cold. He always had, even as a child. When the other kids in his town were out playing in the snow, he had preferred to stay inside to practice his magic or play the piano. There was always something to do inside, so why go out into the snow? It was cold and wet and inconvenient. Especially right now. It hadn't been quite this bad before boarding the train, but as the ride had continued on and on, the snowfall had grown heavier and heavier, until it was like a thick curtain hanging between him and school. He could barely see the massive double doors from across the courtyard and every step grew more and more difficult to take, as the snow seemed to be growing deeper by the second. Or perhaps it was his own exhaustion, both were within the realm of possibility.
He hadn't gotten much sleep last night, he rarely ever did when it was the night before school began. He was far too concerned with making sure that his assignments were all completed and organized and that he had everything he'd need for the upcoming year. And when those preparations were done, he would sit at his window and stare over the hillsides surrounding his family estate. He loved to watch the slow, gradual shift from darkness to light. There was always that moment, long before dawn, when he'd be struck by the realization that he could see just a little farther. It seemed so simple, but he was more than willing to stay awake all night to experience that little moment in the early hours of the morning. However, when it was the morning before a day of moving and travel, he really should have just gotten a little bit of sleep. He'd eat his fill at dinner tonight, and then sleep for as many hours as he could without being late for class in the morning.
Ascending the slick stone steps, he struggled with the wooden door for a moment, tugging it through the accumulated snow until there was a gap wide enough for him to slip through. Geoff ducked inside, taking off his hat to shake the snow from the brim before straightening up with a small smile on his face to observe the chaos. Students everywhere, calling to one another as they searched for friends in the throng of people. The atmosphere, while jovial, had this undercurrent to it that put him ill at ease. Even the paintings, who were joining in on the din with loud greetings and a few inappropriate songs, couldn't distract from the fact that the houses were very quickly diverging into their own groups and whispered insults weren't uncommon as students passed through the crowd, mudblood being fairly popular. Narrowing his eyes, he began to push through the crowd. He'd rather not deal with this now, he'd rather just find a familiar face.
Surprisingly, that didn't take long. As he heard the door behind him, Geoff glanced back for a moment out of curiosity, then turned and began to make his way back towards the doors. Lifting a hand, he gave a short wave as he smiled and called out to his friend, "Cassie!" Was it probably foolish to be seen with her on the first day back, with everything that had been going on? Most definitely. But she was one of his closest friends and he had no intention of letting the growing prejudices in the wizarding world interfere with the way he treated his friends.

Normally, a trip to the library was the best way to start any day. Call it stereotypical Ravenclaw behavior, but Calliope was pretty sure she spent at least half her time at Hogwarts in the library. It wasn't just because of the constant stream of knowledge she had access to there, it was the atmosphere. Pleasantly quiet, if she was alone, but when her friends were there, it was the perfect place for scheming, teasing, and sharing fond memories. The library was a place she kept close to her heart- it was also, incidentally, the perfect spot to write in her journal. With a simple levitation spell, she could float up to the top of the highest book shelf and tuck herself in quietly there, wrapped in shadows and the faint sounds of pages turning. Not many people noticed her there- even the Marauders didn't keep a close eye on the rafters from time to time. Her usual downfall would be her summoning another book or pot of ink. No, not a literal downfall. No one had tried to get Calliope down yet. She would come down willingly for her friends, and they knew that. She assumed so anyway. Other than that, no one really bothered her.
But today, the silence of the hallways- only now were people unpacking, Calliope thought- was tense. It was like the train all over again. The blood feud was following her. It was a long walk to the library from Ravenclaw tower, and she could have sworn she heard whispers, people scurrying away when they realized she was near. The Mudblood Whitsby. How dare she show her face in my school? At the speculation, Calliope shook her head. I'm being foolish. Though each side is getting riled up, things aren't about to jump that far ahead- people shouldn't be actively avoiding Muggleborns until an official response from McGonagall to the von Ecoffs is given. For now, there should be nothing more than a few glares and occasional slur. You're overacting, Calliope. The sooner she could find a familiar face, the better.
She didn't run into anyone during her trip to the library. That was both good and bad. Good because it allowed her to focus on the current job she needed to complete, bad because she was still feeling irrationally lonely. Once her books, most on wandlore, a few covering topics in class, were returned, she debated where to go next. After all, that was her one plan of the day so far. Calliope had charted out the different outcomes for the events of today, and most of them ended her finding one or some or all of the Marauders and going from there. She browsed another stack of books, deep in thought. Perhaps the day had finally come when they had given up on her. That was not so illogical as the blood feud picking up steam that quickly. After all, Calliope's intensely cold nature had chased away everyone else before. Maybe they had realized over winter break how they didn't need her- anyone can find a new tutor. But again, she ruled this out. At least one would have told her, probably to tie loose ends up. It wasn't as if Calliope didn't trust them- she did, dearly, almost insanely. Any one of them could tell her they needed her to do something, and she'd do it without wavering. What Calliope didn't trust was herself to keep good friends like that around for so long. The fact that she had been kept around so long was almost as strange as the sudden pickup in the blood feud out of no where.
Her fingertips hovered over the title of another book. A new edition of Garrick Ollivander's wandmaking notes. Wandlore was her latest obsession- not three weeks ago, it had been alchemy. She picked up the book, flipping through it to compare it to the last edition. "Mmm," she mumbled to herself. An entire section had been updated. It couldn't hurt to check another book out, could it? The answer was no. She checked it out quickly, then left the library before anything else in there could tempt her. Now, to find the Marauders.
