Welcome, my darlings! For those of you that were not a part of our planning thread, this is a small group Harry Potter plot. It takes place in modern times, a couple decades after the books, and centers around eight main characters. These main characters are from a variety of houses, primarily Slytherin and Gryffindor. They are all friends. The plot, thus far, is that the ancient dispute of blood is reaching an ultimate peak in the wizarding world. Now more than ever purebloods are skeptical that "mudbloods" have anything to contribute to wizarding society, therefore they are doing everything they can to put pureblooded wizards in power. This includes demanding students of non-pure blood must undergo rigorous testing and investigation by the school board before they are admitted. What's worse is that some families have begun to demand houses remain more separate than ever, which is causing serious rifts between the four houses. Students no longer associate with those outside of their own houses, and if they do they are seen as traitorous. Quidditch matches have ended in brawls, the halls are eerily segregated, and the staff is overworked and tired. Our story begins in the second term, after holiday break. Snow litters the moody hills of Scotland. The headmaster, Professor McGonagall, announces that a tournament will take place. It is intended initially as a way to distract from the current feuds among houses and to attempt to bring up moral. The opposite is true, of course, because where would we be without a heaping tablespoon of drama?

So! Our main plot, as you probably gathered from the introduction, is kind of split into two parts. First, purebloods are rearing their ugly heads again and this is causing massive divides between the houses. This isn't good for our group because they're made up of several houses, meaning they suffer a lot of ridicule from their friends outside the group. We also have characters of various backgrounds, which make it difficult. Pureblooded characters might be faced with shame and pressure from their families to associate with "better" people, while mixed blood characters might be subject to immediate harassment. They might also find it difficult to maintain friendships, especially when their other friends tell them to avoid purebloods. Thus we have drama. Another source of plot is the Triwizard Tournament. In the books this was discontinued (poor Cedric), but we're bringing it back because it's awesome. Now, traditionally the tournament is held between several schools, but in this case it was brought back tentatively only to Hogwarts. Instead of students from different schools facing off against each other in the trials, it will be students from different houses. Not all of our characters will be directly involved, but because they're friends with those who are, this plot will still be extremely relevant to all.
