Patience was sat in front of her mirror, staring at her reflection and took a deep breath. I can do this. It's just the Prince... hah! The Selected girl hardly recognized herself; she wore a deep red, almost maroon, in a dress that went to her feet. The skirt was flowy, but the torso hugged her sides with small jewels tracing delicate designs all over, up and tracking down the mesh-like sleeves that went right to her wrist. Her hair was twisted up into a bun, with a clip holding a few more jewels helping hold it in place, and hide the many bobby pins that were doing all the work. Her make up was more than she was used to, but she had to admit she liked how it made her look; powerful. With a sharp cat-eye and lipstick to match the dress, she felt powerful. Patience jumped at the knock at her door and stood quickly, slipping on her black heels and making her way to the door, opening it for the Prince. (Sorry i haven't replied till now! You made me all nervous because I have NO CLUE what they should do on their date! Ha ha.) Augustus had spent the last couple days sincerely wishing that, A.) somebody had written a book of Awesome Date Ideas to Do in the Palace and that, B.) there was a way to buy and read that book without anybody's knowing about it. Unfortunately, if Augustus wanted that book, he would have to develop and write it himself. But that was an impossibility, since he had no ideas that weren't incredibly, well, boring. All he wanted was to be able to talk to the girls and get to know them, but that required some sort of date-like background, and if he kept inviting girls to meals or teas or desserts, he was going to outgrow all his jackets. It only made it worse that he really didn't know the girls yet, so he didn't know what sort of things they would enjoy. Anyway, he'd pulled together the best he could for tonight's date with Patience. He knocked on her door. (HELP!!!)

Lily smiled, calming as he spoke to her as if they were both just two regular people and not like he was a Prince and she was some commoner who got the chance to get to know him and possibly marry him. The thought also occurred to her that she wasn't in this for the crown. I want to find love, and maybe Prince Augustus could be just that, love. She shook her head from her distracted thoughts. "Sorry Prince Augustus. Yes, I am ready." She smoothed down her dress with her hands gently and reached for the handle of her door to close it as she stepped out into the palace hallway. She couldn't help but notice how Augustus looked, He's so handsome this evening. Did he do this just for our date? No! Don't be absurd. He's going on date's with other girls tonight as well, not just you. She almost sighed out loud at the thought. Why does that bother me? Do I like him already? I mean he's nice and a little awkward but in a cute way. That thought made her smile. I guess I am falling for him already.... (I just realized the reference to her falling when he spilled the lemonade on her lol) [ (Ha ha, funny! I should have caught that.) "Sorry for what?" Augustus asked kindly. He offered his arm for her to take and began walking. He led her down the stairs and through a few corridors, passing plenty of large windows and artwork and polished floors as they went.

“You may,” Cordelia answered, trying her hardest to sound confident and sure of herself. If it was actually working… well, that remained a mystery. As she gingerly took the arm of the prince, the nerves she had tried to tuck away fluttered persistently in the pit of her stomach. I mean, here she was, on the arm of the very handsome Prince of Illea. Wouldn’t that be any girl’s dream? Heaven knows it had been hers when she was young. Like many young girls, she had harboured a crush on the male for many years. More of an infatuation really--like on a celebrity. Completely unattainable yet you just couldn’t help yourself from being enamoured. She had eventually grown out of it--for the most part. Once her inner monologue had quieted, she drew her gaze up from the ground and over to the prince, though she didn’t look directly at him--was that considered rude? She wasn’t completely sure, but she was too shy to attempt to make eye contact. Augustus let out a breath to relieve his nerves and turned with her. They'd be staying on this floor, but in another wing, away from the rest of the girls, because boy would that be awkward. He should say something. What? It didn't matter, so long as he said it with confidence, like he said everything else. "Did you do anything interesting today?" Perhaps not a terribly exciting conversation, but it was a start.

Torr:
Loretta laughed, but resisted the urge to throw another sock at her. "You'd better learn their names. You can't keep identifying them by their hair color. Else we'll wind up with a Queen that you'll only be able to address as Her Majesty Brown Hair," she teased.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Augustus didn't mind the rambling. Even that little bit revealed a lot about her, and it took away the fear that he would get tongue-tied, at least for the moment. He smiled. "Fantasy would probably be my favorite too, but I prefer nonfiction. History, religion, politics. Some biographies. Never poetry, though," he admitted. "I don't understand it. It's too--convoluted."
"I just got a bit distracted in my thoughts." Lily blushed lightly and took his arm, following him through the halls. She gazed at the artwork and beautifully intricate windows as they walked by. "The castle is so beautiful." She murmured softly.
Augustus glanced at the painting they were passing, a large landscape of the mountains at sunset. Artists always seemed to want to paint sunsets. "A lot of people have put their best work into making it that way. I'm sure they'd be honored to know your appreciate it." He stopped at a door and pulled it open for her. "After you." The room had been set up as a dining room for two, with a small table draped in a white tablecloth, a small but pretty gold chandelier, a cart of covered platters set against the wall. A serving boy stood by the cart, and snapped to attention when they entered. He hurried to pull Lily's chair out for her, but Augustus stopped him. "Allow me. Please." He gripped the back of the chair and pulled it away from the table for her. He did have some manners, after all.
ah I think you meant to tag Hot Chocolate up there ^^
When they fell into a quiet walk, Cordelia enjoyed several moments of silence. Though it was a bit of an uncomfortable silence, it was much better than having to sputter out words in an embarrassing attempt to sound confident and worldly. At his question, she felt her small feeling of comfort crumble. Aside from princess lessons that morning, she’d spent the entirety of the day in her room, reading, trying to distract herself from feeling nervous. Nothing worth mentioning, really. “I’m afraid not,” she admitted, “You see, I’m terribly boring--I spent the day attempting to catch up on my studies.” She aimed a self-deprecating smile at the floor and dropped her gaze. Although she had been in the palace for a bit of time now, she hadn’t gone out and explored much--it didn’t seem right snooping around considering she was a guest. “Yourself?”
Lily smiled at Augustus and sat down in the chair, "thank you." She looked at the setup, feeling a flicker of something in her chest at the sight of it. She knew that he did this because he had to take the all of the girls out on dates but she wished she could believe it meant that she was special to him. "This looks wonderful Augustus." She blushed when she used only his name.
Patience opened the door and smiled as she met the Prince's eyes. "Good evening, Your Highness." She said, giving a small curtsy and stepping out of her room, gently closing the door behind her. "How are you this fine night?"
(Whoops sorry I didn't see this since it was addressed to Torr!) "Well--" Aera struggled to come up with a witty comeback and instead focused back on folding her shirts. She finished one pile and started on another. "Queen Brown Hair isn't such a bad name. I mean, it's better than Queen Gray Hairs or Quene Bigwrinkles or Queen Nobrain. Queen Brown Hair is a perfectly respectable name. Like, I wouldn't be too offended if you called me Dark Hair." She grinned to herself and smoothed down one sleeve of the shirt. "But in all honesty, we'd run out of hair colors quite quickly, wouldn't we. There's only so many tall dark and handsomes and freckle-cheeked readheads and bright-eyed blonds in the world."-- "Convoluted?" Kryslyn had to hold back a giggle. To use a word like that to describe something else--it made the whole thing much funnier. "Well, anyway, history is all stories anyway. Religion is a lot of stories, too--everything about the past is one great fairytale that just happens to be true. I can't exactly describe politics as a fairy tale, though. It makes sense you'd learn more about it, due to your kingly duties and all." She tilted her head to the side again, seriously considering his stance on poetry. "I can understand what you say about that 'convoluted' writing, though. Sometimes it seems almost pretentious to me, like poets decided regular words weren't enough for them and had to make up some fancy new metaphors. Are poets really so enlightened and above us that they can't express what they feel normally? Do they have to make us all feel like dinguses just because we can't decipher their flighty figures of speech?" Again, the rambling. She'd have to work on that--and also being more polite about what she thought about poetry. Who knew if one of the royal family was a poet? Oh, cripes. She hadn't thought about that.
Augustus blinked a few times, trying to take in the sight of her and get his head on straight. This girl was practically dripping in red--her hair, her dress, her lipstick... He wasn't sure if it should make him nervous; something about her just seemed so--so femme fatale, at least tonight. But that's ridiculous. She's just a harmless girl. He put on a smile and chuckled, a bit sheepish but careful not to sound too self-deprecating. "I'm well, thank you, though a little nervous, if truth be told. How are you? You look lovely," he added.
He raised his eyebrows slightly in question, trying to imagine being thrown into this world instead of being brought up in it. Everything he knew, she would have to learn, and quickly. "It must be a lot of pressure," he murmured, thinking aloud. He shook his head and brought himself back to the present conversation and out of his thoughts. "I haven't done anything incredibly noteworthy either. Today's projects seemed mostly to consist of revising outdated laws."
(Ah, I forget what they were going to do. Do you happen to remember? Or was I stalling until I figured it out? Lol.)
Lily smiled at Augustus and sat down in the chair, "thank you." She looked at the setup, feeling a flicker of something in her chest at the sight of it. She knew that he did this because he had to take the all of the girls out on dates but she wished she could believe it meant that she was special to him. "This looks wonderful Augustus." She blushed when she used only his name. Each of the girls was special to him; but he knew one day, some of the girls would be more special, and eventually one would be more special still. That knowledge in itself made setting up dates even more difficult, because he didn't want to use up all his best ideas in the very beginning, and his worst ideas were, well, cliché and unexciting. Still, they would have to do for now. Besides, one could hardly go wrong with a romantic, private supper.
I hope.
He frowned slightly at the omission of his title, but since he was still standing behind her, luckily she didn't see it. He composed his features again as he moved around the table to take his place. It's just a title...do you really want the girls to use it? When would you ask them to stop? Well, perhaps the girl was on to something. It would be a little stinting if, for example, he always had to address Miranda as "Queen Mom" instead of just "Mom." He supposed it was fine--so long as she never tried to call him "Gus." That may well get her sent home on the spot!
Augustus moved the linen napkin to his lap. "I'm glad you think so, though I can hardly take the credit for it. The staff is responsible for the setup; I only provided the idea. Are you hungry?" Silly question. Of course she's hungry! It's almost 8:00!
Loretta just laughed at Aera and shook her head. "Sure, you would be Maid Dark Hair and I would get to be Maid Red Cheek," she said, brushing a finger over the bright pink birthmark on her left cheek. "And we'll serve Prince Tall-Dark-and-Handsome and Queen-Hair-Color." She paused and raised an eyebrow. "Not very efficient, is it?"
~~~~~~~~~
Augustus smirked in amusement. "One great fairytale that just happens to be true," he repeated. Something about the phrase appealed to him. She must be a clever girl, to come up with a line like that in the midst of her discomfort and rambling. ...I like clever girls. His smirk remained firmly in place as he listened to her continue. When she had finally stopped, he laughed and stopped in front of a rather-too-large (in his opinion) set of giant oak doors. "I assume they just feel that plain, ordinary words can't do justice to what feel like extraordinary emotions, so they have to find different ways to use them. It just gets confusing after a while, and might be a little simpler to just say it in prose. ...Also, 'dinguses'?" he teased lightly. He watched her face for what was sure to be an amusing reaction while he reached for the polished bronze door handle.

"Quite hungry." Lily admitted with a small smile. "Although I first must apologize for omitting your title. It's the second time I've done it since being here and I regret not apologizing the first time." She blushed lightly. "Knowing that I'm here, with the possibility of marrying you one day, has me a bit nervous." She admitted, the amount of nerves it gave her was largely understated, especially considering the way she was already falling for the prince. Even with all of his quirks and menial tendencies.

(I will! Heehee) "Well, it's the only queen, so we could just call her Queen. Then we could number the princes and princesses. We could go by numbers also--Maid Dark Hair one, Maid Red Cheek one, Maid Yellow Hair Six, you get the idea." Aera grinned. "I'll make it efficient yet. One day one of my descendants will ascened to the throne and put our naming system into place."
--- Kryslyn blushed, red spreading over her cheeks. "It's--I have a tendency to use insults of my own rather than borrow from less-than-stately places. At least I know--" Augustus pulled open the door and she trailed off. She was sure her eyes were widening, but everything was amazing. It was all tall, elegant bookshelves amd large windows and she thought she saw a few spots that would be good for reading--at least, she could make herself comfortable there--and there were so many books and maybe it was a little less cozy than her local library and a little smaller than the grandest one she'd seen but it had its own magnifcence, for lack of a better word (a lack, here in this place!) and she thought it might be the most stately one she'd seen, not to mention all the books that were around. "It's lovely!" She exclaimed, turning back to Augustus. "Oh, do you come here often? I love it. I love it! The architecture almost reminds me of the way the castle was described in--" she cut herself off, the better not to ramble, and settled on beaming. "Thank you, Augustus. Oh dear, may I call you Augustus?"

She of Many Names:
(So what should I call you NOW? Ha ha.)
Loretta raised an eyebrow at her, only half-trying to suppress a smile, and stood up from the bench where she's been sitting. All the socks were now matched and sorted by possessor. She ambled to a stack of white undershirts, moved them to the work table, and started folding. She actually hated folding shirts, but she enjoyed Aera's company and was running out of other work down here. For once. "My, what grand aspirations, hoping to get your daughter or granddaughter on the throne," she teased. "Tell me, will she be named according to her hair color, or just numbered according to her birth order?"
~~~~~~~~
Augustus could hardly fault the girl for not cussing--or at least for finding creative and therefore pretty harmless alternatives. It was actually rather charming, and classy, of course. Augustus himself didn't curse much. It just didn't seem necessary, and was too much a trend in their people his age. Not that he shared much with other people his age around the world.
He also found that he couldn't fault her for omitting his title this time. She was obviously overawed by the library, and he had a suspicion she was lucky she was still on her own feet in an upright position. He smiled genuinely and ushered her in, following a step behind. "I think an exception can be made today," he told her, pleased she seemed so happy. "Would you like the guide does your, or would you rather explore?" he offered. Her grin was contagious; it was like watching a child at Christmas.
(She of Many Names is perfect, lol)
"Oh, both," Aera grinned. "I expect her to be named Dark Hair Number Eleven." She raised an eyebrow at where Loretta was folding the shirts and moved to her side. "Is there any particular reason as to why you've folded this shirt while it was still inside out, or am I just that fascinating?" She took the shirt, unfolded it, and turned it the way it was supposed to be. "I'm not sure shirt-folding is your strong suit. Maybe you should stick to sock-folding." She raised an eyebrow playfully.
---
"I think I'd like to go around. But come with me, please. I'm sure I don't know this place as well you do. Do you spend much time in here?" She reached out and ran a hand along a smooth bookshelf. Everything was polished and gleaming and bright, just as a castle's library should be. "A younger me would love this place. Like over there! I would've loved to curl up. And over there--that would've provided great life." She flushed. "That's too much about me. Did you come in here a lot to read?"
"It almost seems a shame, after all the time you've had this week to wait, but I thought we might watch a movie? We're sure to have any of your favorites, and if that fails to be interesting, we can always get to know each other better." It really did seem a shame, since she had obviously put in a lot of effort to look so--nice didn't seem quite the right word, but still. Really, any "date" at this point was only a backdrop for conversation, and Augustus didn't mind talking during a movie. They rarely held his interest the whole way through anyhow. He met her eyes and raised his eyebrows slightly, waiting for a response.
