AdriΓ‘n nodded, adjusting her robes and sliding her wand in to her other pocket, a nervous habit she had picked up as she got older,"I... you're welcome," Noticeably struggling to find the words, she ducked her head down before glancing up again, feeling genuinely sorry for making the older Gryffindor student upset,"Sorry, I didn't really mean what I.. what I said. I was trying to help, I'm very bad at.. talking. I think." The younger wrung her hands together, trying not to cringe at her own words again. Attempting to make friends was something she was not very good at apparently. James smiled, "It's all right, I know how it is." he assured her, and truthfully he did. "I'd rather be following Slinky here around the castle than talking to people for the most part," he admitted, "but you've got to push yourself and get out of your comfort zone, it's the only way to make friends." he added. "You helping me just now was already a big step for you, it doesn't matter if you're not that great at talking, in my first year I think I said all of three words the time I was here." James was telling the truth and was now determined to help Adrian. He was suddenly feeling a sense of responsibility, as if he had to repay her for her help in finding Slinky.AdriΓ‘n looked up at him, her eyebrows raised in slight surprise. She hardly expected him to offer any kind of comfort or relation, so she felt taken aback by it, "I.. I think I understand that. I wasn't allowed to speak during my first year actually, my father--" She stopped herself short, microexpressions of pain flashed through her face, then she stopped it as soon as it had come, "How come.. why are you bothering with me? I was mean, and I think I may have nearly hurt the rat - I mean, Slinky - when I tried to get him off me." She was rambling now, flustered by the fact he was even bothering to be friendly; she had been the same when Vivienne and Allen had taken her in to their small family, but had snapped so much and tried to physically fight them half of the time, that it still surprised her that they even cared. James was even a complete stranger to her, so it baffled her even more.

Lilja laughed softly. "As much as I hate to admit it, from what I've seen, you're a good Keeper. You could do well in that field, so to speak." She raised an eyebrow at Vivienne's last statement. As Lilja walked, she thought of what to say. A moment later, she attempted to smile. "I think you'll figure something out before then. I hope I do." she added as an after thought.

James said nothing, but for once he actually noticed something, how Adrian had stopped herself at the mention of her father. Clearly there was bad blood there. "Oh, you weren't that mean, trust me on that. Besides I'm a big boy, I can handle myself. And it's really not a bother, I like to meet new people, it expands my contacts and means I make more friends. As for Slinky, he'll be fine, I've dropped him more times than I count and he's always survived. Tough little rat." James said, his voice softening as he talked about his pet, which he was now absentmindedly stroking with his thumb, calming the creature. "So," he said, bringing himself back to the conversation, "what say you? Friends?" He asked, awkwardly shuffling Slinky into one hand and sticking out the other for Adrian to shake. "I look after my friends," He said softly, looking at her, his eyes burning with another meaning. It was clear what he meant though. If someone hurt her, they'd have to deal with him. Ever the gryffindor, rushing to save people.

Vivienne gave a genuine smile and a hardy pat on the back, a deep yet quiet chuckle following right after,"I have no doubt that you will, since you're already consoling me. I think I might become a Quidditch player if it makes you angry enough," She reached up and ruffled Lilja's hair, teasing her about her earlier statement.

Ever the gryffindor, rushing to save people. AdriΓ‘n stared at his hand like he had offered her something that was beyond value, and in a way? He really had. Hesistantly, the fourth year placed her much smaller hand in his, but as she did something changed, her grip was firm and sure. "Friends." She nodded, and gifted a rare small smile in return. Barely a few heartbeats later, Dough flew in and landed rather clumsily on AdriΓ‘n's already outstretched arm, her small toad Searle in hand and she gasped, "Dough! You can't just hold Searle like that! I know I named him after a toad but I actually like this one!" The small Hufflepuff took the toad away and the owl cooed, immediately making its way to rest on her shoulder. ((Is it just me or does James seem very much like Newt Scamander? I haven't watched the movie yet, but he seems very much like him XD))

{{ Haha, actually I guess he sort of is like Scamander XD And the movie is f-reaking amazing! I saw it on the weekend and am going to see it again with my friends next week. }}
James flinched back as the bird flew in and landed on Adrian's arm. But as the bird settled, James leaned in, owls had always fascinated him, not as much as rats, but still. "Dough, hey?" He said softly, repeating the birds name as he reached out to stroke it. "I've never seen an owl awake during the day like this one, surely that's unusual?" He asked, glancing at Adrian as he did. "And the toad's Searle?" he added, catching sight of the creature as the owl moved to Adrian's shoulder. "I've never been a big fan of toads, to be honest, but Searle, he looks...cute." James tried, his hand dropping back to pet Slinky, who's soft fur he much preferred to the slimy toad.

"It is, but he was rescued and suffers from nightmares and anxiety -- or in his case daymares. His caretaker wasn't much of a caretaker until Allen took him in, I can understand that," Adrian replied, looking up at James before he addressed the toad in her hands,"I named him after my teacher, Levi Searle. I wouldn't be surprised if you heard of the auror, but he's such a toad himself I couldn't not call him that." She repressed another grin at the thought, remembering the older man's indignant squawk when she named the toad after him. "Also this Searle is much cuter than my teacher. He looks like an old man with his silver hair."

{{ haha yeah! And ssaammmmeee they are just so cute aahh :3 Hey Bones! }}
"Oh, poor thing," James said, once more looking at the bird, but this time with sympathy. He couldn't handle the thought of people hurting such innocent creatures. "Haha, I've heard the name before, and I'm quite sure you're little guy there is much more handsome than some old auror." he replied, now grinning, the mood lightening. "Unfortunately Slinky here doesn't have a cool story behind his name, he's just a rat." James sighed, rather dramatically, trying to get Adrian to smile again, something he figured she didn't do a lot.

"He's in his twenties but he acts like an old man, dresses like one sometimes," Adrian nodded, then snorted quietly at his dramatics, another tiny smile edging against her lips. "Slinky is great, he's pretty sneaky too so it fits." She joked, her posture slowly relaxing and her words more at ease now that James and her had gotten through the initial awkwardness.

"Oh yeah, he is pretty awesome at times. When he's not running away and getting himself into trouble without me, he's pretty chill." James said, once more smiling at the pet. "However, when he does run away, or I let him loose, it makes for an awesome adventure," he said, getting excited now. "Following Slinky let's me explore parts of the castle I wouldn't have found before which is just so...exciting..." he breathed, a distant look coming into his eye as he talked. It was obvious he was passionate about the topic. "Do you like to explore, go on adventures?" He asked, eager to share this thing he loved with his new friend.

Sure thing!)) Skylar came down the stairs from the girls' dormitories quietly, a thoughtful look on her face. She had a habit of doing that; she moved around with about the same amount of noise as the Hogwarts ghosts. She had a book tucked under her arm-- The Standard Book of Spells, Grade Five. Crossing the common room, she took her favourite seat next to the fire, curling her feet up by her side, and Saladin jumped up on her lap, eyeing Merlin with distaste. Skylar stroked his ears softly, giving Silver a smile and nod of greeting, though she chose not to speak. (Morning everyone) 'Good morning.' Silver said, smiling up at the girl as Merlin finally caught the feather. She let him have it, watching as he 'killed' it and proudly set it before her, before gracefully turning and slinking towards Saladin, sniffing the air curiously.

Ngl I started drawing AdriΓ‘n in dresses for the Yule Ball X'D )) AdriΓ‘n nodded a little, a tiny flush rising to her cheeks and her eyes shone, having a particular thirst for adventure herself, "Sometimes I sneak out to the Forbidden Forest when Allen is having a particularly dreadful detention, or I follow the house ghosts through the castle," She explained, feeling quite proud of the fact that she managed to do that kind of thing on her own, and she found herself more friendly with the dead than the living if she was being honest.

Belle FriesenhahnBelle looked back at where the rat had scurried to. It seemed to be followed by its owner, one of ger Gryffindor classmates. She never really talked to him though. Then again, she didn't talk to a lot of people. "I highly doubt that stupid rat is magical. But I just finished what homework I had for my classes so I was thinking about skipping. However, I don't think I have the guts to do it." She sighed and crossed her arms over her chest. She wasn't a fan of Hogwarts. If only her mother was stationed somewhere else. She wouldn't complain though, a more interesting life than saying you lived in Texas your whole life and got your wealth through stock shows. [ Sadie Lark | 15 | Ravenclaw ] "Really?" Sadie asked in surprise. She hadn't heard of many other kids skipping classes, not unless they were sick. She was eager to jump on the chance of getting a new friend though and didn't waste a second. "I'll skip with you," Sadie said eagerly. She glanced around suddenly, checking for any of her classmates. She didn't see anyone or any prefects for that matter. "We could go to the Quidditch pitch- wait do you play?" Sadie couldn't quite remember if she was on the team, she most likely wasn't if she remembered correctly. "Or we could explore the castle," Sadie offered up in case she wasn't on a team. Sadie couldn't decide which she liked more, Quidditch or the castle's secrets. She knew if it involved magical creatures she'd choose castle in a heartbeat, but the castle only had typical magical creatures now.

[ Sadie Lark | 15 | Ravenclaw ] Sadie beamed at her. "I'm up for it," Sadie said with a roguish smile. She had never found another person that was willing to leave Hogwarts grounds, and Sadie could admit that it was impressive. Sadie was afraid to mention any other place that wasn't nearby, as Belle seemed nervous about skipping. However Gryffindors were known for their bravery, which was good for her. She supposed that maybe it was a surprise to Belle that she too was willing to skip a class, but Sadie was used to the other Ravenclaw's doing the same as she, minimal effort in classes but done eloquently enough to sound like they were trying.
"It'll be great to get off of the grounds before the weekend," Sadie admitted. She hated Hogsmeade weekends, purely because of other people. It was a mob of students that left, and it usually ended up as one massive mob trying to reach the best shops. She usually hung back until most of them were gone, but even when she left early she found her way in a crowd in shops and on the streets. Sadie was excited for the chance to sneak, dodge in shadows and by suspecting patrons.

The young Slytherin shivered unconsciously. I can't afford to be late to another class. "Hey," Vivienne watched Lilja, her concern becoming prominent as she noticed her anxiety. She stopped in front of the Slytherin student and placed both hands on her shoulders, leaning down to look at her as she spoke, "Lilja, you have nothing to worry about. You're an amazing student and your grades - they aren't that important, but yours are still outstanding. You've probably won your team more points than you've lost them okay? Don't worry too much, life can work in the most miraculous of ways."
