James noticed she was falling asleep and smiled to himself. He didn't move, not wanting to wake her. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* As the men carried the body away, Danir stayed beside his wife and daughters. "They are strange," he commented. "If the marks are recent, we'll most definitely consider it a cause of death. If they're old, however, then who knows what happened to the poor man before this. While Mei and I work on gathering information, I want you to see what you can get from Thayer. She might know something that she was afraid to mention around everyone else." (Gah!! It's short again.) She continued to snooze on his shoulder.

(Yeah, that's usually what happens to me too, lol.)
"Or they wanted to make it look like more than one person was shooting at him," Danir said. "As if he ran across a raiding party."
"I don't know," Thayer admitted. "Everything was just... off. First there was Pax disappearing. He said he tried to find us, but if that was true, surely he would have seen us when the horse was charging through the street. The crowds got out of the way, so he should have seen us. Then there's the fact that he found the body before me. I chased after the horse immediately, well, after I told Mei to get Dad. How would he have gotten to the man before me?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Once he knew she was asleep, James carefully shifted her so they were both laying down on the bed. He wasn't tired, but he didn't want to risk leaving in case it disturbed her.

"Except we don't send raiding parties. Not anymore." Recent treaties had decreased the size of the forces on both sides of the conflict, along with the number of weapons carried. As far as Meira knew, the elves held to their end of the deal and sent out large parties only to hunt or negotiate, but no longer to attack. Then again, this was already clearly a human endeavor.
"They already messed up the arrows," she said. "And maybe they were wrong about raiding parties. Maybe this is someone who's too young to have met elves in battle? But they would know about the treaty. Everyone does..."
"He does know Redmont better than we do," Tawna said, though she found herself far more inclined to believe her daughter. Her tone showed it , too. At the very least, though, there were missing pieces to the story. It simply chilled her to think that their host's son was behind such a harsh attack. This incident was meant as a statement or a distraction for something else. What would happen when the bigger pieces fell into play?

SN: ~Skyblaze~ Plot: Someone Who Cares Character's Name: Dustin Rainer Description: Dustin stands at 6'1", and is proud of it. He has messy brown-blonde hair and blue eyes. There are a couple freckles across his cheeks, not enough to be noticeable, but are present nonetheless. He is generally good-looking, with the only major blemish on his futures being the small scar that trails down from the left corner of his lip. He usually wears a pair of jeans, a plaid button down, and whatever faded jacket he can pull out of his collection for the day. He also has a shark fang that hangs on a necklace around his neck. Personality: Dustin is generally laid back and goofy. He enjoys joking around and teasing lightly, although he is capable of being tactful and serious when needed. He is very persistent when he sets his mind to something, and once he is convinced that what he is doing is what he wants to do, it can be very difficult to convince him otherwise. A large reason for this is loyalty. Dustin is a very loyal person, and is willing to go the extra mile for those who he is close to. Password: Nightmare Other: None
SN: ~Skyblaze~ Plot: Troubled Heart Character's Name: Zoe "Z" Brookhart Description: Z is a pretty, petite girl with long chocolate-brown hair that comes down to the small of her back, and bright hazel eyes. She is quite athletic and is at home playing several different sports. Her attire usually depends on her mood, and she's just as comfortable in jeans as in a skirt. She usually keeps her hair in a ponytail, and wears a baseball cap every now and then to add to the look. Personality: Z is tough and no-nonsense, and isn't pushed around by anyone. She's friendly and good-natured, but is resilient and assertive. People usually respect her because she stands her ground, and has the punch to back it up. Which isn't to say she's inclined to violence. She's usually quite laid back, unless you get on her bad side. She's also quite caring, and can take on a fostering role, and many of the youngsters in the neighborhood see her as a role model, and the parents even joke that the 16 year old raises some of them herself. Unfortunately, boys don't have the same luck with her. She usually turns down most who flirt with her, and no one so far has been interesting for her to entertain affections for longer than a week. Danir nodded. "Let's test the arrows first to see how many people had a dealing with them," he said. Muttering a silent apology to the dead man, he began to pull out all the arrows from his back. Just as carefully, he laid them on the table beside him.
Thayer shrugged and looked up at her mother. "I guess we should go inside before something else happens," she said.

Haley walked down the streets, following the path of street light to guide her. She was leaving her "friends" house, having been invited to hang out with a few other people from her school. It was a fun time, for the other girls. In her opinion, she should have just stayed home. With a sigh, she took out her phone to text her parents and maid she would be home soon. The only one to reply, like normal, was her maid, Mrs. Morgan. So long as someone knew where she was was all that mattered.

Dakota was standing outside the mall, texting one of her friends. They had been shopping together, trying to find some outfits for the upcoming summer break. Sometime during the last hour, they got separated. So she waited outside for her friend to find her. At her feet were the bags of clothes she had found. Normally, the girl would just wear a t-shirt and jeans, but her friend had insisted that she buy some fancier looking clothes, just in case she might need them. Dakota didn't argue, but simply let her friend pick out a few shirts for her.

"There is, which leads me to believe we're dealing with either an inexperienced archer, or, again, someone who wanted us to think it was an ambush. If the person shooting knew how to aim, he wouldn't doubt that the man was killed after the first arrow hit its target. However, by the look of how they were spread out on the body, it look like the shooter was just hoping to hit his target anywhere and as many times as he could."
Thayer nodded and let her mother lead the way back into the castle. She half wanted her to lead so if they met anyone, they would more likely talk with Tawna than her.

A few hours passed, and James heard a car pull up into his driveway. His mother must be home from work, he thought.

The back and forth possibilities were frustrating. Once they nailed down a solid number of conspirators, things would begin to smooth, but until then, there was too much space for new theories. Not to mention they hadn't identified the man yet. That could hold a whole host of clues, but he carried nothing to identify him, and magic to divine a person's identity was not reliable, if she'd learned anything from observing other elves casting their magics. That brand of magic was likely to reveal a title or nickname, but it was notoriously vague about true names.
And lead Tawna did, a dark cloud over her face. Today's events made her wildly uneasy, and with what Thayer had told her, she didn't want any of Chastmere's men to know about those details, not yet. Pax seemed implicated in some way that twisted her gut, and it would do the negotiations more harm than good to let rumors spread about the baron's son's involvement.

Danir focused on casting the spell over the arrows. He wasn't use to casting this kind of magic, so the process took a bit longer to complete. Had his brother, Badhor(I forgot the eldest brother's name, so I will chose one that is as close as I think it was), been here, he would have an easier time. Badhor, who had been a member of the Council much loner than he or Tawna, uses identification and tracing spells all the time. He acted as a sort of judge for petty arguments that rise between the elves of their village. "From what I can tell," he finally said after twenty minutes, letting the spell die away, "it was definitely a human who crafted these arrows."
Thayer sensed her mother's mood, and was smart enough to say silent. She had seen her mother wrath. It was not a pretty sight.

(I remember Loric because we had a lot of fun making him a very light and highly amusing drunk. XD )
Danir shook his head. "Sadly, I'm not skilled enough in that field of magic to determine an identity. But since we know it was a human, you can create a list of every weapons master in your town, Baron Chastmere," he said, looking over at the baron. "I know it won't be easy to talk with them, but I do know a spell that will bind them to tell the truth. If they try to give you false information, we can use the spell as a fear tactic if nothing else. I don't like using magic on humans, so the spell can be a last resort only if we absolutely need it."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* storm: Winter resisted the urge to roll his eyes as the girl commented on his nickname. It wasn't anything special, just his last name. But he kept his mouth shut. That comment wasn't important enough to break his silence over. "Thank you, Charlotte, but I think I need to walk behind Jace to make sure he doesn't make a mad dash back to the car," Tim replied, but let her take one of the bags. There was nothing heavy in it, so he didn't feel too bad about having her take it off him. It just freed up one hand to help herd Jace into the house. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Charlotte frowned. Jace--no, Winter wouldn't do that. Well, if he did, he wouldn't get very far with it. The ranch was a maze of roads, trails, fields and forestry. Charlotte knew the place like the back of her hand, but it took any new crew members at least a year before they could wander around without getting lost. "Okay, then." She gripped the strap just over one shoulder with her hand, taking a few long strides to catch up with Winter. "What do you think of the ranch so far?"

In the meantime, who do you want to start off the plots?) (It's no problem at all. ^^ Mine might be short for a while as well, haha.) Jai was sauntering down the streets himself, on the opposite side from Haley and a short distance back. Unlike her, he was avoiding the pools of streetlight. She hadn't noticed him tailing her yet--how stupid would he have to be to give himself away now? Actually, he had been following her for a few days. This girl reeked of old money. A jackpot, if he played his cards right. The girl'd been with too many people the last couple days to really do anything, and he needed to scout anyway. But now, she was walking home. At night. Alone. Poor sap, didn't she know there were dangerous people out there? He sped up just slightly, decreasing the distance between them. The phone would be a problem. He'd have to deal with that somehow. At the very least, he had to convince her that he wasn't going to put her in any danger. --- It was ridiculous. Completely ridiculous. Why did being a werewolf have to involve constantly getting lost in forests? Did actual wolves ever get lost? No. But of course, Kit had to be constantly waking up in the middle of nowhere. Which, by the smell of it, hadn't been explored by humans for a while. All of this was compounded by the fact that he was bleeding. "Whatever I fought, I better have won!" he snapped at the nearest tree. Wonderful. Now he was talking to trees. He kept pushing doggedly east. The forest had to end at some point, hopefully near a 7-Eleven.

Winter turned his irritated gaze the girl. It was a look that said "You don't want to know." The glance didn't last long before Tim shoved him forward a bit. Turning his attention away from the girl, the boy focused on not getting pushed around. As he walked, he plotted his escape, not caring about looking around around the house. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* (It's fine! You go nurse that poor baby back to health. I can wait! One of my own horses has been limping last week, so I've been having to help him with that. So I completely understand.) "Okay, so you're taking some time to warm up to it, I get it." It was clear this boy didn't care to talk to Charlotte, or about his thoughts, or really talk at all. "By the time you leave here, you'll be loving it. Unless you plan on escaping, then go for it. I guess it wouldn't necessarily count as an escape though, would it? Not if we let you go willingly. But I guess you'll find that out on your own, I don't know." She seemed to be mindlessly speaking, a thoughtful look on her face. This wasn't the East's first rodeo, they had their share of attempted escapes. Camera's were everywhere, but at the end of the day, it's just to make sure no animals are harmed in the escape. Social workers are called, the gates are already shut to keep animals in and out, and in a matter of hours, the escape-ee is caught and sent elsewhere.

"That would be the best course of action," Danir agreed with Mei. "That will also give you enough time to make a list of weapon masters, Baron. I would appreciate you coming along as well. Sage sucked in a shuddering breath of relief when he spoke. It wasn't him. It wasn't him She lifted her clammy hand to cover her eyes in embarrassment and took another deep breath in an attempt to regain control of her hay-wired nerves, the panic crawling up her heart beginning to slow down and eventually fade as she repeated the mantra in her head. It wasn't him. It wasn't him. "I-I-I'm s-s-so s-sorry." She managed to stutter softly through the lump in her throat, but didn't dare lift her hand from her tightly shut eyes, fearing the sight of him would set her off again. Sage lowered her head, this time out of mortification as she tried to summon up an explanation and excuse it coherently " Y-Y-You l-l-look l-like someone that I k-k-know-knew." She quickly corrected herself and beginning to nibble on her lower lip, a bad habit for when she was nervous. "I'm sorry." She wondered how the poor man was taking all this, how unfortunate for him to have stumbled upon her, a women who almost fainted at the sight of him. That's attractive.

(It's all good, Soul. I understand.)
Kellan took a few steps towards her, still concerned. Had he scared her by running up on her? He hadn't meant to. "Are you okay?" he asked again, seeing how negatively she was reacting. "Here, why don't we go find a place to sit down? You can rest and try to catch your breath." He wanted to place a hand on her shoulder to lead her back the way he had come, back towards the dorms where he knew there were some benches she could sit on, but he didn't know if that would make her condition worse. So he held back from doing so, and settled on waiting for her answer.

Scarlet was walking home from the park, having just finished a game of soccer with her friends. She was dressed in a simple sky blue tank, black sports shorts, and her sneakers, her red hair pulled back into a pony tail. She was ready to get home and relax for a while. Yet as she walked, she spotted a coffee shop on the corner of the street. She had forgotten her water bottle at home, so she hadn't had anything to quench her thirst after the game. Though the girl was not really dressed to stop in anywhere, her need for a drink won out. So, she walked into the coffee shop anyway, getting in line to order.

Winter stared out the window of his social worker's car. He watched as the city he grew up in sped by in a blur, taking him to his new prison living arrangement. The boy wasn't excited about this plan. In fact, he had been protesting this judgement for the past three days. He had enough of these so called foster systems. All he wanted was to be left alone. "Are you even listening to me, Jace?" Tim, his social worker, asked, casting a quick glance at the boy. For the past five minutes, the man had been giving the boy a lecture on how to behave at his new "house". Winter had heard it so many times, he didn't bother paying attention to it now. "What do you think?" he muttered in answer, not moving his gaze from the window. Tim sighed, but said no more. He knew by now it was a lost cause trying to get the boy to listen. It didn't matter anyway, since he could see the house Jace would be staying at coming into view.

The girlie was getting antsy; he could tell by the way she'd starting walking faster, shoulders tense. He had dressed so that he wouldn't look like some bad dude, just your average friendly neighborhood guy who happened to be out a little late. So he took the chance and started jogging, veering to catch up with her. "Hey!" he called, plastering on his best easy smile. "Isn't it a little dangerous to be out alone? Do you need help or somethin'?" ---- Kit was trekking doggedly through the forest, only stumbling occasionally. His wounds stung like crazy--and as much as he tried to deny it, he kept getting flashes of dizziness from the blood loss. But he knew that if he stopped, he wouldn't get able to convince himself to get going again. So he walked and ignored the pain. Then he was suddenly coming out of the thick of the forest, and there...a highway. A freaking highway. He allowed himself the faintest sigh of relief. All roads went somewhere. At first, he thought the road was deserted. But then he caught sight of a parked car, and movement inside. Someone getting out probably. He could always ask where he was, but there would be questions- Another wave of dizziness hit him. He stumbled and dropped to his knees, cursing under his breath.
