Some people complain about the noise a city can offer. The traffic, both foot and vehicle in nature, was too overwhelming and too chaotic. Destiny, strangely enough, found it comforting. Walking among the crowded streets, hearing the deafening sounds of conversations and engines as she passed by gave her some sense of relief. Even if she didn't feel up to traversing the city, she still pushed herself to leave the house, to use her free time to submerse herself in the world as she could. Who knows when it would be taken from her. High school used to give her an excuse to stay out and about nearly everyday. If she wasn't at class, then people worried. However, she had graduated less than three months ago, leaving her with nothing for a while. She still had errands to run, but her time out had decreased for a time. Now, the need for a job had cast the young woman out once more, giving her a small hope that she clung to since her father had declared it a necessity. So here she was, weaving her way through the crowd, dressed in clothing too warm for the current summer season, and hunting for any place she thought she might have a chance in acquiring a job.

Matthew sat on his porch, nursing a freshly brewed cup of coffee. The sun was just peeking over the horizon, but it had yet to pierce through the thick trees of the surrounding forest, leaving his humble home still in the shadows of night. All around, the sounds of birds filled the air. Little else stirred. It was these moments where he found true peace. Until the duties of being a Ranger called him away to take care of some problem or another. At least he wasn't alone in that work currently. Three months had passed since he had taken on an apprentice, and it was safe to say it had been a journey. It was one thing to be a mentor, it was another to be a mentor to a fourteen year old girl. Being the only child and with very few close female relatives his own age, this was an experience. For the most part, it wasn't that much different than how he would have trained a boy, but there were details of the living space and training that he had to think about that he might have never had thought of before. It was a learning process for the both of them, it seemed. But he was willing to learn. After all, the girl was showing promise in her abilities and was good company. Hunter let out a small puff, wiping the sweat off of his forehead as he stacked the final crate behind the local museum. Now that it was summer, the exhibits were rotating, and with the number of crates that needed to be cycled out, it was an all hands on deck situation. Although Hunter officially just worked security, even he had been pulled into the madness, though this had been the last of it. He let out a bit of air as he stepped back and admired his handiwork, before heading back around the side gate through to the street. He was nearly done with his shift. All he needed to do was update his supervisor and he was done for the day. The streets were as crowded as you'd expect in July, and he had to shoulder his way through the crowd to make his way back to the front of the building. -- Soon after, Emma trudged out of the nearby woods, her arms laden with timber brush for the fireplace. The young apprentice's face was smudged with dirt and her hair was frizzy from the early morning moisture, but she had a smile on her face, and although it was three months old, still wore her ranger cloak with pride. "I got the wood, Matthew." She greeted him cheerfully, her voice muffled by the cowl of her cloak. Setting the pile of kindling down beside him, she moved the offending cloth out of the way. "I saw a stag in the woods. A big one." She informed him, eyes sparkling. Emma was an avid hunter, though stags were usually reserved to be hunted by royalty. So she had refrained, but it hadn't stopped her from tracking the great beast from afar.

Her journey took her down the street that led to the museum. Destiny had always loved the place. To most of the students of her class, they complained about how boring the exhibits were, but to her, it was the most exciting place she had been. It gave her glimpses of the past, showed her the tales of people who lived before her, showed her the world in a nutshell. Boring as it might have been, it was a place she could always find something to distract herself with, a place to get lost in. Nearing the huge building now, the young woman studied it. She didn't entertain the idea of working there. There was no way she could know everything the rest of the employees knew about all the exhibits. Nearly anyone she had asked inside could tell her details that awed her. The best she could hope for was a cleaning job, which would have still be better than nothing. However, she scratched the idea before it formed. And what would happen if she had to call in sick one too many times? No job would be pleased with it, and she certainly didn't want to get banned from the place. No, she would start somewhere else. Somewhere that would have lower expectations and more in need of someone to work.
All of this she considered as she passed by the building, lost in the preparations and planning of what she needed to do. It was no surprise when she felt herself run into someone, bumping into them, not forcefully, but enough to know she disturbed them. "I'm sorry," she quickly apologized, glancing up and expecting to see any annoyed stranger. Instead, she found a familiar face. A face of one of her classmates. Hunter had been his name. She had shared several different classes with the boy. He had struck up some conversations with her in the past, invited her to share lunch with him and his friends a couple of times, and had been a decent guy. She neither avoided him nor sought him out, but was always glad whenever they shared group projects.

The sight of said apprentice walking through the morning shadows, burdened down with timber brush, brought an amused smile from his face. Matthew had to hand it to Emma; she was determined and eager for the work. It made training his first apprentice easy. "And half the forest floor as well judging by your face," he teased. Taking a final sip of his coffee, he tossed the dregs onto the ground before standing. He handed the cup to Emma. Then took the kindling pile for himself to carry it inside. "A stag you say? We'll have to keep an eye out for it. Winter's drawing nearer, so the people around here might be tempted by it. How big was it?"
(Trust he fears might have been mistreated when Genevieve tells him she's a spy. XD I love it.)
At his response, Anya smiled. "Thank you," she repeated, this time without the hug. Picking up her painting once more, she turned her gaze to the rest of the party. "I guess we should find out where Morgan, Cami, and Cresseida went. You should see them before you have to leave."

"Then lets go get you both something to eat before the boys get to it," Emma said with a smile. Turning, she lead the way down the hall and towards the kitchen. While food did vanish quickly in the household, Matthias had already taken it upon himself to make a plate for the guest and had it waiting on the table for her.

"I wish you could as well," Charles murmured, his voice trailing off a bit. The afternoon was well spent, and it would be time to be heading back to the castle soon. If he was to get back before nightfall, they would need to be leaving now. He needed to tell her, but how? What could he possibly do to make the sting of this sudden news less painful then it was and would be, both for Amelia and him alike. “Thank you,” Alexa answered grateful. And she was, she couldn’t think of some better people who would let her stay with them at the moment. She hurried behind Emma and wondered if the boy was better today. ——— “Well, I suppose we should pack up, it is getting somewhat late. What do you say about possibly getting an early dinner before you go back today?” She knew she would not be expecting what was going to happen.

"Please, take a seat," Emma told her as they reached the kitchen and motioned to the plate of food already waiting for her.
When he heard the women approaching, Matthias looked up from where he was preparing two more plates for himself and his wife. "Good morning, Alexa. I hope you've slept well," he greeted.

Charles smiled at the offer. "I'd say that would be delightful," he told her. Any excuse to stay with her a while longer, he would take. But would it be wise? He needed to go. The longer he stayed, the more he could feel his resolve crumbling. It wasn't fair to her, but he just didn't want to leave her. However, if he waited any longer, she might only hate him more. "Before we go, can I, uh, talk with you for a moment?"

Oh yes. That will be what makes him hesitate before going to Anya's rescue. ;D Seth watched her with silent contemplation for several moments before pulling his gaze away. He followed the direction of her stare and searched the crowd from his greater height. Morgan, being taller than a lot of the others as well, was easy to spot. He was surrounded by his own fan club of young women, so Seth decided to do his friend a favour and save him for last.
Seth let his gaze drift around the crowd again. The first family member he spotted was Callum, but before Seth could avert his eyes, he noticed Cami standing beside her brother, talking animatedly with Cal and one of his friends. Seth was reluctant to go over there and interrupt, so he was relieved when he saw Cresseida by the buffet table. She was fussing with the food there, trying to make it look just right.
Suppressing an eye roll, Seth took Anya's hand without looking away from his mother and started leading her through the crowd.

(Gosh, I can't wait for it. X3 )
Being shorter, she hadn't spotted everyone as easily as Seth had. It took standing on her tiptoes and scanning the crowd a couple of times before she even caught sight of Morgan. Just when she was going to make known his location to Seth, the man had taken hold of her hand and was leading her off towards the buffet tables. Anya hadn't expected it, but, by now, she had come to accept this was going to be a habit. Granted, the few times Seth had randomly taken her hand or grabbed hold of her, he was scaring her out of her mind by some magic trick of his. Acceptance of the habit probably wasn't a good thing, but she trust that this time wouldn't hold any bad surprises. Weaving through the crowd, she finally spotted Cresseida as they drew closer. Good. If no one else, Seth should go say good bye to his mother before leaving for the mission.

. Cresseida smiled knowingly, but didn't try to contradict her. "If you say so, dear. Either way, thank you for coming. Feel free to come by for a visit any time you like. My door is always open."
Seth chose that moment to reappear at her side, juggling a handful of grapes with one hand. "I certainly hope it's not," he said. "You'll let in all kinds of bugs, leaving the door open all the time."
Cresseida looked at him, eyes narrowed slightly. They narrowed further when she saw the grapes. "What have I told you about playing with your food? My, you're worse than the cat."
Seth fought a smile. "You don't have a cat."
"Exactly."
Seth chuckled, and stopped juggling his grapes. He popped one in his mouth, then offered the ladies some. "Want one?"
"No thank you, dear."

"I'll try to stop by," Anya promised. "If not here, then I will definitely be by your bakery. If you ever need me to do anything, just let me know." The likely hood of her actually needing her help was slim, but she offered it anyway. Cresseida had welcomed her into her home as quickly as her own mother would have welcomed a stranger. If nothing else, a visit to Cresseida would help ease her homesickness. Of course, if she passed her test, she didn't know how often they would be back to visit the city, but she would try and make a point to see the family whenever she had the chance.
At Seth's offer of the grapes, Anya laughed slightly and shook her head. "Not after you've been handling them," she said, not as politely as his mother.
