Anya made a small noise of agreement. If this was what it felt like to only drink mixers, she was not interested in drinking whiskey straight. From now on, she'd leave that to Seth. He seemed more than capable of handling the stuff all too easily. She let her eye fall closed as she pulled the comforter tighter around her. The material was smooth and warm that made it hard not to want to slide back into sleep. Yet there was something that made her stop. She could feel the sheets directly on her abdomen and arms. Slowly, she moved her hand to touch her skin. Sure enough, there was no shirt. Eyes wide open, ignoring the headache, she sat up and clutched the comforter around her. Up and alert, she found out she was not, in fact, in her room, but Seth's. The events after leaving the bar was fuzzy, but where else would he have taken her but to his place if not her own? But why was she shirtless? Her eyes flickered towards Seth. Surely not... Alcohol had a way of making people do stupid things. She had seen it happen plenty of times, and heard stories about others. She hadn't drank that much, had she? Surely she would have remembered it. But could that be why Seth was still here? Her face flushed a bright red. "S-Seth, w-what... D-Did..." The words refused to leave her mouth, embarrassment and dread locking them in her throat.

WOOP! There it is! xD When it looked like Anya was about to go back to sleep, Seth turned back to his drawing. He'd only added a couple more details to it when she suddenly sat up. He looked over at her again, curious, then concerned when he saw the wide-eyed look she was shooting around the room. Then she turned that gaze on him and voiced her stuttered, incomplete question. It took him a moment to realize what, exactly, she was asking.
Seth quickly shook his head. "No. Definitely not. You took your shirt off earlier, because you thought it was too hot. You didn't give me a chance to put it back on you before you were sick, and then you passed out. It's on the table behind you. I'm just... Well, this is where I draw, and I needed something to do to pass the time, so this is where I am." That hardly made sense to his own ears, but hopefully it would be enough to ease her fears.

( xD And Seth just has to put up with it. I almost feel bad for him.)
Anya said nothing as he explained, and stayed silent for a moment longer. Was he telling the truth, or just telling her what he knew wouldn't make her freak out more? Yet even as she thought of that, she knew she was wrong. Seth had never lied to her in the short time they've known each other. Why would he lie now? He might be many things, but she knew he wouldn't go as far as use her in such a state she had bee in. Slowly, she started to relax. A quick glance at the table beside her confirmed that her shirt was there, along with the glass of water. With a face still red from embarrassment, she reached for her shirt. Only after it was back on dd she speak again. "Please tell me this was the only thing I did," she muttered, grabbing the glass of water and taking a small sip.

Seth opened his mouth to answer, then closed it again as he realized he didn't have an answer. "You know, I'm not really sure. I'd say a while, considering my leg is still asleep." He twitched his toes and circled his ankle in an effort to bring circulation back to the limb. "Probably an hour or two, at least. Maybe more. Hold on." He dropped the sketchbook and pencil on the bed between them and got up. Walking a little unsteadily, thanks to his sleeping leg, he crossed the room to the window and drew back the curtain. He looked up, searching for the sun. Upon finding it, he gauged its current position in the sky compared to where it was when they got here, then did some mental calculations to account for the time before he came in here and started drawing. Finally, he returned to the bed. "Three hours," he said. "Give or take. Huh. No wonder I feel so stiff. I haven't sat still that long for a while."

"I'm not," Seth agreed. He took a quick step forward when she turned his sketchbook over, an automatic reaction. "That's not done yet, though it is for you. Look familiar? I don't see Corrik as often as you do, but I think I got a pretty close approximation." He stayed standing beside the bed, watching her as she looked at his drawing. He couldn't seem to settle on one emotion: anxiety that she was looking at his work (something only three other people had ever had the privilege of before), and excitement over showing off his skill. He'd done several concept sketches before starting on the piece she was looking at - a near-perfect still rendering of her dragon when Seth had first seen him, standing proud and ready to defend his Rider - so he could work out the kinks such a long time without drawing may have caused. He thought he'd done a pretty good job, considering how long it had been since he'd done any drawing, let alone such a complicated piece. But like he'd said, it wasn't done. There were countless details to attend to, and shading to complete, to add to the life-like quality. There was probably at least another hour or two's worth of work left.

There was the sudden movement of Seth made the woman glance up briefly. She hadn't asked before looking at the piece, and, while he was the one to place it beside her, if he didn't want her to look at it, she wouldn't. However, he only stopped by the bed, looking more anxious then she had ever seen him. Granted, it wasn't a big display, but it was there in his stance and in the tone of his voice. Only when she was sure he didn't mind did Anya let herself study the picture. A smile formed on her face, headache momentarily forgotten. "You did this without looking at him?" she asked. The few artists in her town always used something as a reference. Whether it be landscapes or items or people posing for hours, they had to see the subject before putting it to paper of canvas. One person had even tried to draw Corrik before, but their finished results weren't nearly as good as Seth's half-completed work. "This is incredible! You got his scowl perfectly."

Seth smiled, the excitement starting to win out over the nerves. "Yeah. Well, Stel helped. She gave me a birds-eye-view to help me with some of the small details. But, yeah, most of it is from memory. Corrik may be fairly small still, but with his black scales and fierce eyes, he's a pretty memorable dragon." He finally reclaimed his seat and leaned over, to see better without taking it back. He pointed out where he needed to add more detail, and showed her where he would be adding more shading to make it more life-like and 3D. "And then," he finished, "I was thinking I might redo it on a bigger canvas with charcoal. Since he's black, I think he'd look good as a charcoal drawing. I would even paint it, but I'm not nearly as good with a paintbrush as I am with a pencil. I feel like I wouldn't be able to do him justice with paint." He studied the drawing, head canted, bottom lip caught between his teeth. He wasn't aware of either action as he planned and plotted the ways he could make the drawing better.

To all of this, Anya listened with awe and interest, and a little amusement. Her attention shifted back and forth from the drawing to Seth's face. Did he realize how he seemed to light up when he was talking about his art? Probably not since this, he mentioned, was not something a lot of people knew about. It was a shame too. He was a completely different person talking about sketching and painting than he was in idle conversation. Then there was the slight tilt of his head, the biting of his lip, and the far off look he had as if replicating the process in his mind step by step. She smiled. "You know he doesn't dislike you as much as he acts," she told him. Of course, Corrik didn't like Seth, but he wasn't spiteful towards him. Just uncertain.

(Tug's my favorite character. XD Followed by the rest of the gang.)
"Not just you, but everything," Anya replied. "Back home, everyone was too afraid to harm him or do us wrong when he was little. So no one really crossed him. Then as he grew, he was able to help a lot of people, mostly with farming. He was respected and liked by all. He trusts those people he grew up with, and he knew what to do, his place in everything. Here, he knows no one and has to interact with dragons who are much larger and more experienced than he is. He's a child among adults. He doesn't know what to do, so he's hoping the tough guy route will help keep trouble away. It's how we both are, but I tend to not want to growl at every person who looks my way."

Tugs is great. xD That last thought made him snigger quietly. He almost commented that she'd done just that - or the human equivalent version of it, anyway - but changed his mind. He liked having this Anya back, and he didn't want to do anything to sour her mood. Not yet. They would need to talk about that eventually, but not now. Later worked just fine.
"He could hang out with Stel," he suggested after a moment. "She doesn't really fit in with the other dragons, either. Although with her, that's more a choice than anything." Stel was generally a loner, and quite happy that way, but Seth knew she did occasionally crave the company of other dragons. Usually, she found that in Emmer. But the hill-sized dragon wasn't awake very often, so her chances to hang out with him were few and far between. "She's not as mean or grouchy as she pretends either."

(I really thought I was going to cry when the first Tug was injured. The thought of losing him was too much.)
"I've been trying to talk him into doing that, but he's stubborn. Claims she's too aggressive, as if he would know that. Maybe the next time you get some free time, we could go flying or something. Show him that you two are't as bad as you both proclaim yourselves to be." She, of course, had already seen passed their bluffs, or at least some of them. It would take longer for Corrik to warm to the idea, but he would get there. He no longer protested whenever Seth was around. He did't welcome it, but he didn't argue. That was progress.

(They're the sweetest. I have two and I'd be lost without them.)
Anya carefully took the sketchbook, holding it as one would hold a fragile artifact. This was important to Seth, and the last thing she wanted was to somehow ruin it. So as gently as she could, she flipped through the pages, staring in wonder. Each page was covered in a miniature replica of the subject draw. Some of the dragons she thought she recognized from brief sightings at the Dragon Stables. Others, like he said, didn't look like any dragons she had ever seen, but looked so real she wouldn't be surprised if they were, in fact, out in the world yet discovered. "How do you do this?" she asked. "Think of something and bring it to life on pages?"

( Lucky. <3 Well, at least I have my three shepherds. ^^ ) "Line by line," Seth replied simply. For that's what that was: the simplest way to describe how he drew such life-like images. He tried to think of how to explain it more, to sate her endless curiosity. "I don't jump right into the full picture. I kind of... take it apart in my mind, and focus on one piece at a time. And slowly, it all just flows together into one solid image. And if you're wondering where I get the ideas for the drawings not based off real things - which, let's face it, you totally are - then I'm afraid I can't tell you, because I have no freaking clue myself. I get my inspiration from the strangest places sometimes. Like, a freaking buttetfly flitting by my face can inspire a drawing. Or a raging river. And sometimes, nothing gives me any inspiration at all."
