Cal, being the third kid, usually wasn't as carefully protected. Either he knew what not to do - thanks, Ty and Brandon - or if by the time he did it, his parents didn't have enough energy to reprimand him. Plus, he'd been the wild kid growing up. His parents sort of gave up on being overprotective over him, and by the time they started to, he was already running with a new, beneficial crowd of kids. So when Finley spoke up, Cal looked over to her, breaking his eye contact with Mark. "It's - you don't have to say anything, Fin," he said softly. It was almost achingly apparent how much he cared for her when he turned back to Mark, his eyes steely. Finley didn't deserve to stick up for him when he was the one who messed up.
"She fell asleep and I told her to go upstairs. She wouldn't go, so I brought her up here," Cal said, the previous deer-in-the-headlights look gone. "She said she couldn't go back to bed, so I offered to stay with her until she did. Then she..." Cal trailed off. He really didn't think telling Mark that this all stemmed from saying I love you would be a good idea in the slightest. "I kissed her. I'm sure you can fill in the rest." Cal adverted his eyes at Mark's last statement - it was true. The first time he'd been found in Finley's room, it had been an honest mistake. Mark hadn't freaked out on him, just gently told him never to be found in there again alone, asleep, or doing something he wouldn't tell his mother about since he didn't know the house rules. Right now, this squarely fell into the third category, and he was very well acquainted with the Knox family rules.
As if to reassure himself, he quickly grabbed hold of Finley's hand, that was near his, and have it a squeeze, knowing Mark could see it fully well. With that, he started to shift as if he was going to stand.

Daniel didn't say anything besides directing her where they were going. Once they were there, he stepped away from her and letting her open her eyes. "You can open them now." He grinned, excited because of where they were out and he knew this was going to be fun, for him at least. He hoped it would be for her too.
They were zip-lining today through the forest. It is fun, fast, and a beautiful view when passing through it. He's done it many times and one of the best places to go. Kids were coming and going, their laughter disappearing quickly because of the speed of zip-lining.
---
"Oh, come now darling. We're both not getting any younger and I want grandchildren from you! Plus..." she stopped when Casper strolled over and she glared at her daughter. "So you do know him. That is perfect." Her mom then turned her attention to Casper and replied, "hi young man. I am. My name is Sarah. Who might you be?"
"Mom, this is Casper. Casper, mom. Great! Everyone knows each other. Mom, I just stopped by to say I am going to be gone for the rest of the day and there is no reason for you to be hunting for a guy for me anymore. Alright?" Her mother ignore her though and pushed her away as she came closer to Casper, wanting to talk with him more instead of her daughter. While she looked at him, there seemed to be something familiar about him but she couldn't place it so she decided to ignore it for now. "What do you think of my daughter?" she said simply instead.

Alec shrugged. "I just figure, you know, one day all the snocones and Mom's bakery treats are gonna catch up with me. It's a wonder my whole family doesn't look like beardless Santa Clauses, to be honest," he said, smiling. He drummed his fingers on the wheel in a quiet tattoo, then glanced at Tori again. She looked tired, he noticed. Or at least, something like tired. But it had been a big weekend, and she was more than likely in for a big lecture and punishment, so maybe that was just getting to her. Boy was she pretty though. "I told you," he said in a tone composed half of levity and half of wistfulness. "We drop out, get our GEDs, run away together. But somebody said no." He would do it in a heartbeat if she asked; he couldn't deny her anything.l when she pulled those big brown eyes on him. But it was probably best she was sensible about it. That plan may technically be perfectly doable, but it wouldn't be easy and at this point would probably be more trouble in the future than it would be worth.

"Yes, I do! You did nothing wrong," Finley replied. The gently way he had spoken to her was a little surprising. Yeah, Cal owned up to his mistakes. That was the one thing he was to make good on. Yet he wasn't the one at fault. She had asked him to stay. She was the one who gave the "I love you" that led to the situation at hand. She wasn't about to let him get in trouble for staying with her. Her hand tightened around his, hoping to keep him where he was and not stand or leave.
Lexi had come up behind Mark as Calvin explained what had happened. She took one look at the two and saw why he was upset, but, being the motherly figure she was, tried to diffuse her husband's anger. "Mark, calm down. They didn't do anything," she muttered to him, placing a hand on his arm.
"You know very well He broke the one rule we had established for them," Mark replied. "We trusted him alone with our daughter, and he took advantage of it. You," he pointed at the boy, "I want you out of here."
Opening her eyes, Sophia saw the answers to all her questions. "Zip-lining," she said, staring at the wires and people wearing the safety harnesses. "Well, at least it's better than bungee jumping." She had never been zip-lining before, but she was a fairly open person when it came to trying new things. If those new things weren't anything too extreme. This was like a five on the extreme scale at the moment. She looked at him with a small smile. "Why have I never noticed this here before? You'd think everyone would know about it."
~*
Straight and to the point. Charles could see why Amelia was a little hesitant to introduce him to her. But he was well experienced with this situation, so he answered smoothly, "You're daughter is a lovely girl. She's kind, well opinionated, and has a good sense of humor. Of course, I could say more, but we might be here all day, and I'm sure you have better things to do than listen to me tell you things about your daughter that you already know."
"Do you really think you'd be satisfied with just a GED when you've only got one year left of high school?" Tori asked. "You've put in too much effort to throw it all away just because I don't like school at the moment." She knew full well He would drop out of class the moment she said she wanted to, and that's exactly why she didn't agree to the plan. If it was just her, she'd have dropped out a long time ago, but since Alex Would be standing by her side no matter what, she didn't want him to make that mistake as well. Besides, we'd just have to study and take all of those tests. I'd rather suffer through one more year than take a mega test in one day.

Cal looked back at Finley when she assured him he did nothing wrong. If he could say how much her sticking by his side meant to him, he would. He just couldn't find the words, but he knew she knew that he was thankful for her.
When Cal spotted Lexi at her husband's side, that's when he felt embarrassed. He always liked Lexi; she'd never been anything but kind to him, and was one of Olivia's friends before Ty died. Hell, Lexi would sometimes send over plates of food for him with Ty, always with little messages like I hope practice was good today Vinny!. Mark was one thing. Lexi was a totally different thing, and Cal couldn't help feel more ashamed about disappointing her than anything.
When Mark icily told Lexi that he'd taken advantage of Finley, he wanted to yell that he hadn't. He wouldn't dream of it. Finley had set boundaries, and Cal pulled back way before he even hit one. Even if Cal told Mark that, he doubted he'd be listened to. After Mark told him to get out, he squeezed Finley's hand again, and, at this point not really caring, said lowly - it didn't matter, as he was sure at least one of her parents could read lips - "I love you, okay?" There. It was the first time he'd said it to her with no other interpretation. It could only be taken one way, and that was honestly. Cal let go of Finley's hand and stood, rising to his full height which put him a good few inches taller than Mark as he started towards the door, risking one look back at Fin.

"Thank you James," Amanda called before she started to work on her homework.

Daniel shrugged, "it's new recently. It's been added here in the last two years. It's only known if a person wants to do it otherwise it's not. Most people don't actually know about it. So, are you ready to try it?"
---
Amelia stopped talking when Casper started. She looked down at the ground, never actually being complemented before. She wasn't sure if he was actually sincere or playing along. "Mom, can you please leave him alone?" Her mother was never going to stop.
"Sush," she directed at Amelia before turning her attention back to Casper. "Good, you'll do great for my daughter. Now, tell me, how did you guys meet and how long have you known each other."
"We've known each other for awhile," Amelia answered. "We met outside the wall when I was going to go paint one day and we hung out."

Aaron muttered a spell and floated into the air. He landed, on the ground, on his two legs. He wasn't dazed and started walking, towards Anya, again. Slifang growled, defensively, and made her way quickly over to Corrik. She pinned him to the ground, easily, and growled in his face.
DON'T YOU EVERY TOUCH MY RIDER AGAIN, IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU! She growled, fiercely, knowing her size and strength was frightening. She made sure to say this into Corrik's mind.
Aaron held up his hand. Silfang, enough. He said, calmly, for both Silfang and Corrik to hear.
Silfang growled but, didn't get off of Corrik. I won't let him up until you talk to his rider, peacefully, without any harm. She replied.
Very well. Aaron sighed, knowing that there was no reasoning with Silfang, when she was like this.
Aaron headed over to Anya and apologized. "Sorry for my dragon." He said, shaking his head. "She gets really defensive when anything like this happens."

"Mark you're being ridiculous," Lexi responded to her husband's explanation of what had happened. For what she could see, Calvin had done nothing wrong. Sure, she wasn't too excited to think about how they found them, but she was reasonable enough to see that no funny business had been going on. The woman was even tempted to embarrass Mark by bringing up his own behavior back when they had been dating. Yet she felt that would be saved for when she spoke with him later. "Calvin, you don't have to go anywhere. If Finley offered you to stay here, then you're welcome to stay the night. It's late and I wouldn't feel right sending you out into the road after this. If anyone is leaving, it's you," she pointed to Mark. "I will speak to you after I've made sure Calvin is settled in for the night." Although Lexi was not a very intimidating person, standing around 5'4" and a little rounder build, she had the same graceful movements Finley had inherited. She also had the stubbornness of a mule. She never shouted when she was angry, and if she did, they someone must have goofed up really bad. Instead, she used her words and wits to win arguments and show how displeased she was. Mark never could figure out a way to defeat her arguments, but he wasn't about to let this matter drop easily. He would escort the boy out of the house himself even if he had to drag him.
Finley, on the other hand, was doing her best to not let her temper fly. She wasn't an angry person, but when it came to disputes, she took after her father. It was only the fact that she knew how much Cal hated shouting that she wasn't yelling at her father for how unfair he was being. It was only when Cal spoke to her, her attention shifted. Her cheeks were tinted a very light pink, but she had no time to return the words or saying anything else. He had already turned away from her. She stood up, looking to her mother desperately, hoping that she would, in fact, convince Cal to stay and to talk her father out of his rage.
"Then you're going to have to figure your feelings out, Sam," Riley said. "I don't want to have to tread carefully, not sure if you like me one day, and someone else the next."
~*
"You're welcome," James said. When he got to the kitchen, he remembered that he had forgotten to ask what kind of snack she wanted. Oh well, he thought, I'll just make something I know we both like. And that he did. He didn't fix anything special, just a bowl of popcorn they would idly snack on as they did their work. It might also last longer than chips.
Sophia nodded. She wasn't a big outdoors person, so she didn't really keep up with the latest news of the forest. Taking a moment to think her answer through, she nodded. "Sure, I've never done this before, so it should be fun," she said.
~*
Charles had been telling the truth as he complimented Amelia. He admired the way she spoke so freely and open to him, a complete stranger, and she had shown him kindness in the form of showing him around the city. Now, however, as they reached the creative side of the story, his grin widened as he prepared to add some more details that her mother was sure to ask about.
"I travel here now and again whenever I have spare time," Charles explained. "As I was riding up to the gates, I noticed Amelia off in one of the fields painting. I had never seen anyone painting before, especially not that early in the day, so I rode down to see what she had found that was worth capturing on canvas. I'm glad I did. Your daughter is an amazing artist."
Corrik was maybe a third of the size of the female dragon. It was a fact he knew was because of his age, but at the same time, it infuriated him as he tried to get up. His attempts were futile since he lacked the size and strength to throw the larger dragon off of him. Then you better make sure he doesn't touch me again as if he knows me! he growled in turn, ignoring the boy's voice in his mind as he spoke to them.
Anya watched the proceedings, feeling a little helpless and worried for Corrik. She couldn't talk sense into him, and she knew for certain she couldn't try to sway the other dragon to let him go. So the solution of this problem lied with the boy. Turning her head to look at him, she was once again shocked for a brief moment of the sight of his ears. "No, you have no reason to apologize," she said quickly, moving her gaze to his face. "I should be apologizing for Corrik's behavior. He's like that with everyone, so please don't take his attitude personally. He's just wary. If you could tell your dragon to let him up, I promise he won't try anything like that again."

(Now, just to clarify, are they juniors or seniors? I've been assuming they're seniors, but we've blown through a lot of their school year by this point and I just want to be sure.)
Alec didn't answer for a second, only twisted his fingers restlessly around the steering wheel while he thought. He wasn't sure he wanted to answer that honestly, but then decided that life wasn't always perfect and if he couldn't be honest with her, why were they even in a relationship? "No," he sighed, "I wouldn't. I want to say I would, or something sappy like, you know, just being with you is more than enough. And that's true, but only to a reasonable extent, you know?" He glanced at her. "There are a lot of romance novels or movies or whatever that make it sound like being with the person you love makes everything all better, but that's a lie." He gripped the steering wheel tighter, the muscles in his arms and back stiffening while he talked. "I mean, we can be as in love as the day is long, but we're still going to get hungry or confused or--or hurt-- And just being together doesn't automatically fix that," he ended almost in a whisper. His face felt warm, and his shoulders slumped suddenly as he realized that he would never be able to fix everything for her. No matter how much he loved her, it wouldn't make Jason or Heather of anything else just disappear and not matter anymore, just like her loving him didn't mean his education didn't matter. He shook head. "Sorry, I'm being depressing. Just-- No, I don't really want to drop out." He reached for her hand again, for his own sake this time instead of hers, and interlaced their fingers. "I'm sorry if that's not...what you wanted to hear."

(I think they started as seniors, then changed to juniors. XD For our sake, lets just say they're seniors because I believe when they skipped class, Alec didn't mind since this was their last year of school so they could have a day off. And to make it easier for us.)
Tori listened to him as he spoke what he was really thinking. She had always guessed he held those opinions, but because he was Alec, he jut chose to give light, cheerful answers to avoid giving the entire truth. No, it wasn't easy to admit that simply being with the one person you love wouldn't fix every problem, or provide them with everything they need, but she already new that. There were bills that would soon need paying, there was food and clothes to provide, and there was the problem of keeping a roof over their heads. All the stuff they didn't really have to worry about living with their parents. Seeing the way he tensed, she brought their hands up so she could place a gently kiss on the back of his hand in hopes to calm him some. "And I don't expect this to be like one of those novels or movies. Sadly, the real world doesn't work like that. Alec, I would never wish for you to drop out, no matter how badly I might want to. I'm not going to ask you to throw away your life and future like that," Tori typed, running her thumb over the back of his hand. "After all, we're both doing pretty well grade wise. I'd much rather say we graduated instead of being drop outs. Has a better ring to it, with a lot less disappointment."

Cal knew Mark wasn't going to let him stay even if Lexi made him. Plus, Cal didn't think kicking Mark out of the house would do any good. "No, I'll go," Cal told Lexi. He could clearly tell Lexi was mad, and was surprised it wasn't towards him. Cal didn't want it to look like Lexi was picking him over her husband. "The roads won't be bad." Cal knew what Lexi meant though - one Davenport boy had left their house after a fight and never came back. Lexi didn't want a repeat. "I'll be fine."
Cal had heard Finley shifting and standing up, but didn't look back at her. As he slid past her family, he met Mark's eyes. Cal opened his mouth as if to say something, but closed it. A muscle in his jaw tensed before he turned away and headed down the hallway. It was for the best, he figured. The Knox family would have a hell of a night, he knew that, but it would be better than postponing it.

Alec listened to the robot voice translating Tori's words for him. He kind of hated that app sometimes because it would never be a substitute for Tori's voice and never quell his longing to be able to hear her, but it was certainly handy sometimes. He worked on relaxing his face so he didn't look like some old grandfather frowning at a bunch of rowdy kids. "A better ring to it," he repeated, smiling slightly. "Yeah, that's true." And suddenly he was thinking of rings and diamonds and tuxes and veils, and it was weird how not-weird it was. Tori's fingers would look very pretty with a ring. But maybe not right now. "I do love you, you know. Just so we're clear on that point. And you're right, it's only a couple more months. We're in too deep now!"

Mark pushed past Lexi and followed the boy down the stairs to the front door. Most of the initial anger had subsided, but it was far from being where he would consider apologizing to him. Once they reached the door, he spoke again. "I have given you plenty of chances to prove to me you were a decent guy for the sake of my daughter," he told him, keeping his voice low so the girls wouldn't be able to over hear. "I was actually starting to think you might have shared your brother's sense of respect. At least he had the decency to keep scenes like that from happening, something that has obviously skipped you. I can't stop you from dating Finley, but if something like this happens again, I will not hesitate to put you in your place."
(Meh, was that good? I feel like it's lacking. :/ )
Tori laughed softly and squeezed his hand. "I love you too," she typed, despising how lifeless the automatic voice made the words sound. She would have much rather signed it if it didn't risk taking Alec's eyes from the road. "It can only get better from here, right?" she asked, smiling slightly. Maybe, hopefully, it would get better. They've already been through some pretty bad things, and she couldn't see how things could possibly get any worse than they have been in the past.

No it's not it's fine! I didn't give you much anyway)
At the mention of Tyler, Cal got angry. Not enough to put his hands on Mark, no, but enough to finally snap, "Well, I'm sorry that I'm not my brother, and I'm sorry a lot of things skipped me!" He didn't even bother keeping his voice low. Cal didn't mind being compared to Tyler in looks (considering they looked a lot alike) or if someone brought up the positives between the two boys. But Cal hated when people brought up how much of a pity it was that Cal wasn't like Ty, the golden boy. If Fin and Lexi heard upstairs, let them. "Whatever your sick fascination is with Tyler, I'm done with it. Done with it." That had stemmed from always feeling as if he was living in Ty's shadow with Finley. He had felt, since day one, that Finley was picking apart the differences between the two boys, always hoping he'd someday spontaneously become Ty. Now, Mark had more or less proven it by pointing out a stark difference between the brothers. Once those statements were off his chest, he pushed past Mark and left. At this point, he didn't care what happened between the Knoxes, or between him and Finley.

Finley and Lexi had heard Cal's outburst. Lexi had kept her daughter from following, thinking it would be best to simply let Cal be escorted out without raising more problems between the two. No, however, they both hurried downstairs to find Mark standing by the door alone. "What did you do?" Lexi asked him, narrowing her eyes at her husband.
While Mark explained himself to Lexi, Finley walked out onto the front porch to try and catch Cal before he left. Yet by the time she got to the steps, he was already backing out of her driveway. Tears stung her eyes as she turned back to her father. With Cal no longer around, she didn't hesitate to start shouting at him, accusing him of the horrible way he had acted to the situation.
(Would you like to time skip again? Maybe to a few days later? That way they both know each other a little better and might have found a way to talk more while she's there.)

Is Mark just gonna try to convince Fin that he's not trying hard enough, blah blah blah? Plus, where do you wanna skip to?)
Cal didn't go directly home. He drove around, trying to get his emotions in check enough for him to go home, ready for the assault of motherly questions he'd have to sit through. Cal felt defeated and emotionally drained - it had been a day of spectacular highs and spectacular lows. When he checked the time on his dashboard, he let out a sigh and started to turn home.
When he did get home, his mother was sitting up; like everyone in his family, she was a night owl. Being a mother, Olivia could instantly tell something was wrong with her son, but didn't push the matter, just gave him a hug and sent him to bed like he was a kid again. Cal was thankful for that as he closed the door to his room and threw his nearly-dead phone on his dresser. He wasn't going to deal with it tonight.

Hal was outside, wiping some sweat from his brow as he pushed a shovel into the earth for the hundredth time that morning.
He had been told a few days before that the castle was making use of him - and a few of the younger, fitter, fresher soldiers. They'd set him to work in the gardens, doing whatever available work was hardest. Funnily enough, his treatment had gotten worse, not better, but he got in the sun at least. Even if he spent all day working in it. And he got a little more food because of the harder work, even if it made no difference in the long term. He wasn't wasting away, but he was losing weight.

(He's probably more or less just going to tell her how irresponsible Cal is, and that if he didn't want to get yelled at than he should try harder to me more respectable. We can either skip to the next day when Finley tries to apologize to Cal about what happened, or we can skip a few days to when they're hanging out somewhere. Maybe they have smoothed things over and are finally at a point where both of them are starting to talk more about Tyler. That can build up more Cal's theory of Finley just dating him as a back up Ty.)
Finley spent the next hour and a half arguing with her father. The fight really didn't need to go on for so long, but she couldn't let him just walk away as if sending Cal away was the right thing to do. In the end, all that ended up happening was Lexi sending her back upstairs to get some rest while she dealt with her husband. Exhausted as she was, Finley didn't try to make excuses as to why she should stay up. She traveled back up to her room, hoping that Cal had gotten home alright. He hadn't sent her any text, not that he might have been in a mood to talk with her after all of that. That night held no peaceful sleep for her.
(And cue time skip.)
Cora was more than aware of the change in fate for Hal and the other soldiers. At first, she had been happy for him. He wouldn't have to sit day in and day out in a cell, slowly losing hope. He could enjoy the fresh air and increase in food rations. However, after the first day of his new work, that happiness faded away. As a servant to the castle, her treatment wasn't the best. Servants were looked down to be too low for many people to even speak to. Not all, but some. At least they weren't harmed unless someone was really, truly mad. It was a different story for Hal. Since he was assigned to yard labor, the quarter master had his ways of keeping the work going and a different idea of discipline. When she saw the bruises on his arms and face that night when bringing breakfast, her heart sank as she realized that this was not a good change of events for him.
Now she stood by the window of the kitchen, watching as Hal and several others tended to the garden. From here, they looked to be fine, but she knew they were probably all working carefully and quickly to avoid any unwanted punishment.

Hal stopped when he felt a pair of eyes on him, turning to see Cora's shape in the window. He knew it was her; she was usually in the kitchen this tine of day and the pair often exchanged a smile when he wasn't on his breaks. When he was on breaks he could talk to her. In fact, a break was coming up soon.
But the sound of the quarter master approaching with a shout and a glance at the bruises all over Hal's skin reminded him that it wasn't his break yet as he turned to get back to work just in time to feel the quarter master give him a sharp crack across the head. That was nothing, he had come to see, just a light warning blow. The worst would come if he didn't immediately get back to work.

Okay. Let's have them go somewhere then. No dialogue in this, bc I wasn't sure how you wanted to hit that Also, I know we never solidified where they lived, so I'm just gonna rp them in an environment I'm familiar with so it's like beach-y Long Island bc I'm a loser
if it's any consolation, just know poor Cal probably gets bullied about the way he says "water", "dog", or "Boston" whenever he walks out of his state like me (: )
Finley had, the next day, actually came to his house to speak with him and explain everything. Cal hadn't let her past his porch. His sudden outburst the day prior had him truly thinking that he had just been a band-aid to cover the gaping hole Ty left for Finley. That's why he'd been cold and didn't want to talk - he just wanted time to think. And he'd been thinking for a long time. With the end of summer drawing near, Cal's little seed of doubt hadn't left his mind. He pushed it away, sure, long enough for them to make a shaky amends that led to a few dates, and, more recently, the familiar atmosphere they had as a couple.
So, that's what led Cal and Finley to being at the beach - it was, by no means, a beach day. It felt like fall was hitting early this year, so the tourists hadn't hit the beaches. That was a small reprive for locals - Jeeps like Cal's and other beach cars littered it, and locals where, quite stereotypically, throwing frisbees with their dogs. Cal and Finley both didn't live that far from the water, so that's how they ended up there, with light hoodies on, getting away from the tourists. Since they were at the beach closer to Cal's house - only about two blocks over - Cal had brought the family's dog with them, who had been a big hit with the little kids who were playing with him. Tyler had been, laughably, labeled himself a fish person, so many years ago. Cal labeled himself most likely to become a veterinarian.
