I liked it, especially Violetpaw's PoV. Alderheart and Puddleshine were great, and Twigpaw is such a precious cinnamon roll!
I still hope ShadowClan suffers greatly for their decision, but I do like the twist story-wise. And after reading the bonus scene, Needletail's resentment towards her Clanmates make sense. They underestimated both her and Tree, just as they underestimated Violetpaw even back when she was a kit!
Speaking of Needletail and Violetpaw, their relationship is certainly an interesting one. It seems like Needletail genuinely does care for Violetpaw at least at first, but then there are times where it just seems like she's manipulating her.
Another thing that I found interesting is how it seemed like the apprentices felt disillusioned by both Clan life and the warrior code. It seems like they wanted to forget their own paths instead of letting someone else do it for them and make ShadowClan into the strongest Clan at the lake. And while I'm all for the whole "choose your own destiny" thing, they're of course going about things the wrong way. However, it seems like they're not entirely to blame. If anything, the older cats might've unintentionally encouraged their behavior as well.
As for the rest of the Clan, like Tawnypelt said, the sickness scared them and they were desperate for a cure just like they were back in Night Whispers. But, again, this doesn't make their actions right since they still betrayed Rowanstar for Darktail.
Speaking of Darktail, he seems to be an interesting villain so far. He's cruel and manipulative, but also won't tolerate insubordination.
I'm neutral on Rain and Needletail as individuals, but as a couple it seems sweet. They clearly care for one another. FernxIvy seems sweet too. It was cute how they flirted with each other. As for the possibility of TigerxDove happening again, I don't really care by this point.
The new names were okay, but I think some of them could be better.
I don't really have much of a problem with either Jayfeather and Rowanstar, and I thought Leafpool was great in this book, especially when she called out Onestar for his own actions.
Speaking of Onestar, it's implied that he's on his last lives and he might only have one left when he fought Darktail and his rogues. I wouldn't be surprised if he died in the next book, and hopefully he will. Normally I would feel sympathy for cats like him if he wasn't such a jerk during the rest of his leadership. I do see why he was so angry though, but still... Also, go Harespring! #Harestar2k16
I also found Twigpaw and Violetpaw's relationship to be interesting. They have their differences, especially at the end, but they clearly still care for each other.
Overall, I really liked the story and I hope the next book will be just as good.

I don't like FernxIvy at all. I second that Yay I'm not alone. Honestly if Ivypool has to get a mate, I rather it be Mousewhisker or maybe even Molewhisker because they aren't directly related to her and they're not younger. I mean, most of the Clan is related to Firestar already, there's no reason to have her mate be related when there's other blood.

Also, the age difference between Ivypool and Fernsong isn't that bad. In fact, I think it's about the same as the difference between Mousewhisker and Ivypool (~2 years). Ivypool and Fernsong are also not that closely related. It just seems like it since the books pointed out that Dovewing is kin of Firestar's kin. Besides, at this point, about everyone in the clan is probably related to each other in some way.

I don't mind Fern x Ivy
I don't like Mole x Ivy, because I still hate that stunt he and Cherry pulled in DW'S, where they led the EX Trainees to a trapped fox, they could have gotten them killed, and that was disgusting. Even for a prank, it was so inappropriate.
I don't care for Mouse x Ivy either, they don't even talk that much??? In fact, I'm pretty sure Fern and Ivy have more interactions with one another than Mouse and Ivy ever did at this point. Mousewhisker has been fading into the background for a while now.

I never had a mate in mind for Ivypool, so I'm on board with Fern x Ivy. They have some cute moments here.
Tiger x Dove keeps going back and forth so many times, I've just lost interest in it. It's stale. It's boring.
I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like Rain x Needle. Then again, I just don't like Rain, and I feel like hanging out with rogues is only going to be toxic for Needletail. It's already proven toxic for the rest of ShadowClan.
Speaking of Needletail, her relationship with Violetpaw is interesting. I think she cares about her, but she's too manipulative. It reminds me a lot of older sisters who deliberately drag their younger ones into "bad neighborhoods", especially that scene where she and Sleekpaw sneak her out to the rogues for the first time.
So basically: I just want ShadowClan, Needletail and Violetpaw as far away from the rogues as possible.
Also, Puddleshine! I loved him. He got the short end of the stick--forced into medicine catship, having rushed training, having to take care of the Clan during the bout of yellowcough--and he's so young (he was what, eight moons when he was made a full medicine cat?) but he doesn't let that pull him down. He's doing his best, and his work ethic is commendable. Also he's shaping up to be a friend for Violetpaw, which I think she really needs.

Honestly, this book made me appreciate Dawnpelt, Tawnypelt, Crowfrost, and Tigerheart much more. I liked how they're always shown to be loyal to their Clan, and Crowfrost was shown to be a very good deputy. I would've loved to see Crowstar, but that won't happen so.
I'm alright with RainXNeedle being a thing. It feels a bit awkward with Ivy and Fern being related, but I'll get over it I guess. There's been worse. *cough*ashfur being squirrelflights uncle*cough*patchpelt and willowpelt being siblings*cough*
I think Alderheart and Twigpaw's father-daughter relationship is adorable, and oh StarClan please don't let them end up being romantic.
