Whitefrost sat down, and began staring at the nursery longingly. She still didn't have an apprentice, as much as it pained her to know. Brightcloud had had her kits recently- two, to be exact. A she-kit named Sorrelkit, and an unnamed tom. Being the BriarClan medicine cat, the white she-cat knew that things would have been difficult, especially so when she had first chosen the path of being her Clan's medic. But, she had never imagined that it would be so difficult to find a kit whom actually wanted such a task. It made her upset to know that whenever she even showed one of the kits an herb, all they would do was make disgusted faces. She thought that they would come through eventually as she had, but she now knew that her dreams would never become a reality.
(She's free for any forbidden romances!)

Adderstrike padded out of the warriors' den, he had been resting from his early dawn patrol. He awoke to the news that Brightcloud had had her kits, an event that made the clan proud to be housing new members of the next generation. He looked over towards to the nursery as another warrior was just stepping out from having visited. Everyone around camp was buzzing with excitement about the birth. Whitefrost however caught his eye, her face didn't match that of the rest of the clan. She seemed distraught or upset. He made his way over to her, brushing his fur against hers lightly in greeting. "Why such a face? The clan has grown by two and everyone is exited."
Ashfeather gave a light purr from her nest in the nursery, the warm scent of fresh milk and soft mews of new kittens filled the den. It brought memories to her mind of when she had her own kit, just 4 moons ago. She had hoped to have been some support and help to Brightcloud as she gave birth. She knew that Whitefrost did a wonderful job in assisting the process, as she had done with hers. The small kit beside her paced back and forth as he tried to get a better look at his new denmates. "Mama why are they so small?" Nightkit meowed as he turned to his mother. The grey she-cat looked down at her son with amusement, "They have just been born silly, all kits start out small."

"I don't know. It-it's just that I still don't have an apprentice. What if I grow old and we're left without a medicine cat?" Whitefrost questioned. "It would be horrid! Nightkit rejected it, so is there any chance that one of Brightcloud's kits will be the one StarClan has chosen?"
Brightcloud gave Sorrelkit a lick, drawing her tongue over her young daughter's flank. She- along with her brother - were suckling milk, taking it in hungrily. How precious... If only their father were here to see them. She looked longingly up to the sky, but all she saw was the stone roof of the nursery. Will I ever get another mate such as you ever again?

The dark grey tom leaned in against his friend hoping to offer some comfort, "Hey, don't work yourself up so much. You still have many moons ahead of you, there is still time for you to find one. Starclan looks out for the clan, they wouldn't leave you without any help. My nephew has nothing against medicine cats, he just wants to be a warrior like his father and myself. I'm sure the possibility is present in one of the new kits, maybe introduce them early to the choice?"
Nightkit made tentative steps towards the she-cat's nest. He had never seen other kits before, the little before him had been made apprentices a moon before his birth. Slowly he stretched his neck to try and get a scent from them. Ashfeather kept a watchful eye on her son, not wanting him to cause any trouble. She caught the look in Brightcloud's eyes, longing deep within them. The thoughts of their father clearly in her head.

Smallcloud was too looking at the nursery longingly, but for a different reason than Whitefrost. She had wanted kits for so long, but she had yet to find a mate. Not that she was looking too hard or anything. See, she was a hopeless romantic. While all of her friends were ambitious in their love lives, Smallcloud believed that her true love would come to her, instead of her coming to him. And it would probably be love at first sight, or maybe a slow-yet-sweet romance. She couldn't decide which idea she liked more. Turning away, she moved to the fresh kill pile. There was no use sulking when the Clan needed to be fed!

Whitefrost nodded. "I suppose that we could try." The she-cat turned away, and left. She didn't want to speak of her concerns any longer, afraid that it would just end in the concerns of others. Besides, she had to figure it out on her own. She was chosen as a medicine cat, not Adderstrike.
"Don't get too close," Brightcloud warned, seeing the curiosity gleam in the kit's eyes. "We don't want to wake them, now do we?"

Adderstrike watched as the she-cat left. It pained him to see her with such worries and stress. She always been a worrier in the clan and her dedication to helping and looking after others has always caused him to admire her.
Nightkit nodded at the queen as he stopped his advancement, the other kits intrigued him.

"Any naming suggestions?" Brightcloud mewed. "I think I'll name the little tom Brackenkit. After his father, Bracken." Yes, she had become mates with a loner. However, he had been so kind, and she knew how much he loved her. He had even died for her in a battle against a few foxes.
