I'm having the absolute worst time job searching rn lakdjlakjdfa I'm not sure if it's just the jobs I'm looking for or if it's a bigger problem but employers rarely get back to me. I very rarely hear back, even if they moved forward with other applicants I'd like to know that I was removed from the applicant pool. Fortunately I've made it to the interview stage on the jobs I wanted most. Unfortunately I didn't get those jobs XD
I'm looking for a lab job, a crime scene tech/evidence tech job, or a P.I. gig. It's hard to get entry level jobs in these fields and they all want you to have crazy years of experience lol I'm certain I'll get a job eventually, but I know a few people with more experience than me who are also struggling so it's not just me. At this point I'd also take a different job if it was close to my home and payed well, I'd totally do some random job if I could bike there. There's a bar on a biking path I like to take and I'd totally apply if they were hiring.
What kind of call center are you applying to? I worked at one a while back that captioned calls for hard of hearing/deaf people and they paid pretty well to :0 Not so much I'd go back to it tho. How much does a bank teller make where you live? Seems like it would pay decently.

I think I've applied to every job around here i could walk to that i could also physically manage since we moved here at least twice each. I've kinda given up on getting a local job and idk what job i could even do remotely since most of those jobs also require skills and/or school I do not have and can not get.

the job market these last few years has been insane. i know a few small business owners who swear up and down that they cannot find good workers for the life of them (as in, the people they do hire regularly just don't show up for work, do less than bare minimum, etc). they are desperate to find good employees who will just do the work they're paid for. meanwhile i have friends who have applied to literally hundreds of jobs and can't even get a formal rejection.

The job market is honestly a bit of a cesspit for multitudes of reason. majority of companies have streamlined their hiring process with implementing ATS software(applicant tracking screener) that screens applications and rejects based off of keywords and not the applicants actual experience, which makes it quantum physics difficulty levels of just getting your applicant to be viewed by a hiring manager. Plus companies posting ghost jobs to give impression of perpetual growth to HR departments and investors. Compound that with the fact employers now can screen people globally for hire, instead of just their local area because the of technology, and the ability for many people to use algorithms to apply to positions their not actually qualified outside of a AI-generated spreadsheet. Creates an illusion that there’s far more competition for talent/positions than reality, causes a lot of managers to fall victim of FOMO on that perfect candidate, that perfectly fits into that ridiculous little niche box they’ve constructed.
Oh and let’s not forgot employers exaggerating or downright lying about the nature of the job, expected benefits/compensation of the role in order to mislead people that it’s better than actuality. Overall it’s just a mess right now.

They'd just close the building and say they were "short staffed" and can't keep it open, which I only learned because I stopped by on an off day and the building was closed with one of those big signs that complains about how awful their employees are for calling out, bad work ethic, the whole thing. I was supposed to be on-call to fill shifts and never got a single message from management. ever. The job was awful before that, but that's when I knew I was going to quit Part of my job was forwarding new hires for our open positions, but all the good candidates got stalled at the one manager's desk. They complain that "no one comes in for interviews"... because it would take them 2-3 WEEKS to get back to these people for prelims and anyone who is actually qualified would have found another position by then. I worked that position for an entire semester of college and saw my direct manager face-to-face twice in six months, and the building supervisor was "on vacation" for over five of those months. I was supposed to be hired on in september. They didn't get my paperwork through until mid-way through december. There were several times I had to run the entire building solo because they "didn't expect many customers" that day and didn't want to pay two employees. I rarely got to do the job I was hired to do, because I was expected to do all the building maintenance, front desk, even snow removal. I was hired on as logistics and program management. Which is a long rant but. Man being behind the curtain for at least one of those "woe is me" small businesses really made me unsympathetic towards them. And with so many of my friends, most of which have at least bachelor degrees, unable to find ANY work and willing to do even retail and the like, and still unable to get a call back. crazy. I'm also still reeling over the fact that I got an interview and was declined a front office position because I was "overqualified". Literally what was in the rejection email. I didn't ask for more pay than the offered wage, I just wanted something with steady hours that was close to home. I don't even think a degree in science even HELPS qualify me to do front desk work (honestly, it's probably a sign I would suck at the social aspects!!), but alright. Pretty much every interview I've had since college has gone the same way. "Why aren't you applying to positions in your field of study?" Because I literally can't do that job here and I can't afford to move! I need someplace to hire me and pay enough that I can save a little and be able to afford to move!! Also that the last position in my field literally broke me physically and I can't continue down that path with my health anymore so I lost all the connections I built in uni and gotta start from scratch. And/or get a PhD. Which I need money for. It's a vicious loop

The not get a call back thing- Honestly thats so unprofessional too. I know expecting a call back from positions that are "unskilled" (i hate that word) labor where probably a hundred or more people apply to like a chain business might not be feasible but when it comes to smaller businesses why is it too much time to simply call back or mention after the interview that we may not be a good fit, rather than ambiguously getting our hopes up and wasting our time too. I'm sorry but my time is just as valuable as the interviewer's and manager's time is. A "thank you but sorry" is the least you could do.

Also I have been declined from a job explicitly for being trans twice, it was pretty rude and the look of disgust/cringe I got was equally unprofessional. Which is very much legal to do in Kansas and should not be. I do bring it up when I have been interviewed only in the spirit of honesty that I will not go back in the closet for any amount of money for any amount of time and because I would need my name tag to be something other than my legal name. That's it. I will even use the wrong bathroom if they are that pressed about what's in my pants but I'm not ever going back to my legal name. I don't think that's that big of an ask. I'm not a jerk about it. I wouldn't really want to work for a discriminatory business either but GOD it's annoying to realize and remind people that not everywhere in america has anti-discrimination laws and that something needs to be done about it.

Crazy. i'm glad HEB got rid of them (now they just do hirevue interviews as a preliminary interview, which i still have some gripes with. the long and short of it is that my mom works at another company that does hirevue and she's been pushing for them to stop because the way its coded makes it harder for autistic candidates to make it to the next interview, it weeds out ppl with irregular eye contact patterns and irregular patterns of speech.) but the hirevue interview is still better than the hour long personality test.
there was one time i was doing one of those test thingies for HEB and it was like, "you have a pallet full of perishable items that you're stocking into the dairy aisle, when you notice there's a shattered piece of glass in the next aisle. do you order your manager to clean it up, stop what you're doing to sweep it up, or ignore it?" and it's like. none of these are the correct option what are you Talking about. there was one for a visual interpreter job i applied for where it was like, "a client tells you the last VI didn't do their job right. do you assure the client it must have been their fault, ask them for more info so you can file a report on their behalf, ignore the client and ask them what they want, or get them on the phone with your manager?" and it's like. the closest to correct is the manager one imo but still WHaaat

if i apply today (the 2nd) and say i can start on the 26th on my application, it's because i expect the application process to not take more than a week and a half (this would be different if it were a high level position, but i'm talking entry level here), which is a reasonable expectation to me. if it's taboo to not give 2 weeks notice to my previous job, and it's bad to change my starting date, and it's not acceptable to have a starting date too far ahead in time, then it's on the company to reach out in a reasonable amount of time with either a job offer or a decline letter so that i can meet my side of the deal. i can't meet you halfway with a wall at a quarter.
also, i've heard stories of people sending out applications and then hearing back up to 8 years later, which is crazy to me. i think the latest i've heard back was 1 year later and it was a decline email from a bank. ridiculous.

Meanwhile, there is me, living on disability allowance from the government partially as a result of this mess, which is specifically designed to keep you poor... disability allowance pisses me off, and it's not for the reason of "RAAHH why don't these people with disabilities just stop being disabled and get to work!!11!" it's bc, at least where i am, ppl will receive cents on the dollar if they're on disability for the exact reason you specified: to keep them poor. iirc that's what the controversy with goodwill paying disabled workers terrible wages was about, and it's not goodwill exclusive. tax exempt employees (which iirc disabled employees are part of) don't get nearly as much pay as non exempt employees.
even as a non disabled worker, there are similar systems in place to keep people poor. when my mom worked at walmart, there was a food stamps application system at the walmart she worked at. (ALLEGEDLY, i don't think i'll get sued on the cat forum but you never know) walmart was paying people poverty wages and then sending them to the food stamps counter. to qualify for food stamps here you have to make a gross income of just about 2000 monthly. not sure why it doesn't calculate from net because you can't use all the money from your gross income but Whatever. keep in mind 15 dollars an hour is 2600 gross income monthly, so you wouldn't qualify if you made 15.
i remember trying to apply for food stamps and they rejected me because my income source (15 dollars an hour) minus my regular expenses (500 a month on uber, 300 to 400 a month on groceries, 200 in health related expenses) didn't meet the requirement to qualify and they essentially told me "better luck next time! try making less <3"

Job searching is terrible. I wanted to get away from my old job bc I just couldn’t do it anymore… and I searched forever trying to find a job. I have two college degrees, but I don’t really want to do anything in those fields. And so searching for a job was tough bc 1) I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, 2) the things I wanted to do I wasn’t qualified for/didn’t have the experience, or 3) maybe I found something but there were no benefits and the pay was terrible. So, I ended up moving up in my company just to get away from my old position and I knew they’d take me bc I already was well known and had a good reputation. Benefits are the same, pay is better…. But I don’t like it. I’m happy I got away from my old position, that I still have benefits, and that I get better pay, but I hate that I’m still with the same company and that I don’t actually like the job. And I just feel no connection to it. And I can’t exactly leave bc I’m in a position where I need the money right now and no entry level job is going to give me that. It’s frustrating, haha.
It was actually kind of funny bc earlier in the year, I landed an interview. I didn’t really particularly want the job but the appeal to me was that it didn’t have weekends and I’m just so done working weekends. And my current position told me that “you’re only allowed to take off one weekend per month for quality of life” even if you have the PH days or whatever. And I’m like, cool, I get it. I knew the nature of this job when I signed up for it. But, you don’t get to go telling me that THAT is quality of life. That’s not your decision to make for me omsc. Anyways, this person who was interviewing me loved me, but she was like “why do you want to work here… you’re very over qualified” and I was like //facepaw// tell that to everyone else, please. But, they had no benefits and the pay was not great, so ultimately I felt like I couldn’t even consider it.
I just want a job where I feel like what I’m doing matters and that I’m able to make a difference. And I want to do something I love. Oi vey.

I've been trying to get out of retail the past year and the job market is awful. Very few positions relevant to me open (outside of MORE retail), and when you do apply to smthn getting ghosted is so common, it's been really disheartening.
