SPOILERS FOR STAR (not sure how to spoiler mark this tbh) 😭
Hey everyone!!! It’s my first time posting here in years and I thought I’d make a thread about Frostdawn and star and see what everyone thinks. I’ve just finished reading STAR for the 2nd time and my god does this book make me emotional… i have so many thoughts that I want to share
This book was such an emotional rollercoaster, it couldn’t have been any better and I’m really happy with how this arc ended, this book made me feel so many things and it was such an exciting read! Frostdawn’s character was EPIC and overall a huge lesson about self love, sacrifice, and learning to put your needs first. When she was in StarClan with jayclaw and she thinks “was she allowed to put herself first? It felt good to question it” it makes me bawl my eyes out. Poor Frostdawn has been through so much, she’s on the brink of death again, and she’s been given a chance to be happy and worry free… at the cost of her life
There’s so many epic Frostdawn moments in this book, and I love the theme of moving on surrounding both her and sunbeam. Not to mention the very last words of frostdawns last chapter… “for the first time in a long time, she was actually looking forward to tomorrow.” Her character could not have had a more beautiful ending and this makes me emotional just typing this, it makes me think of TBC’s ending with “only warmth. Only love.” But this time on an actually happy note instead of a bittersweet ending. Frostdawn has been through so much and has saved her clan from destruction, and the fact that at the end she finally learns to be happy and listen to her own needs was a really sweet message and a big life lesson to be honest. I can totally see why she’s Kate’s fav character
I also love how we got a happy ending to a romance this time, it was refreshing that sunbeam and nightheart got a happy ending, if either of them died I would’ve cried so hard 😭 star supremacy!!!
What do you all think?🫶

You’ve pretty much summarized why Frostdawn is my favorite character and Star is my favorite main series book. My favorite characters are characters who leave a big impact on me and Frostdawn’s story really did.

Frostdawn single handedly salvaged all of ASC for me. Not gonna lie, this has been one of my least favorite arcs upon completion as the beginning being so strong made seeing a lot of questionable or sloppy choices in the second half hurt way worse. However Frostdawn and Curlfeather to an extent made this entire series worth it. I’m so enamored with her struggle and later conviction. You can see in real time as she grows from a manipulated, scared young cat blindly putting her faith in anything to a confident cat hardened by struggle and now ready to face the world. It made me think of reading Fireheart’s POV way back in TPB and that’s an amazing feeling I missed dearly. Unlike most other recent POVs she actually makes things happen herself, and feels as if she has tangible goals you can cheer for rather than just milling about waiting for the plot to come in. I’m a bit disappointed she didn’t become leader as my ideal RiverClan leadership would be Frostdawn leader, Icewing deputy, and Bee medicine cat (or no leadership at all and they become the first Clan to establish voting, lol) but either way her growth as a medicine cat in itself is still very satisfying. She’s firmly in my top ten favorite characters now!

She’s one of my fav characters too!🫶

I quite enjoyed Frostdawn as a character and her journey. Plus, I love her full name, it’s simply lovely.
The book itself was a bit mid to me. Not bad, but the pacing was strange and it really hurt the story. The back-half felt like nothing was happening, and I really wish Icestar had more build up (regarding Frostdawn choosing her). I’m also peeved about Nightheart; he had a lot of good momentum as a character, but in the last two books he’s just sort of “there” and ceases to have any interesting growth or personal arc to conclude.

Frostdawn forever!!! As for nightheart I would disagree, I think he had a lot of interesting moments in star and found myself looking forward to his chapters more than sunbeam’s. I’m gonna miss the asc protagonists

I’m gonna miss the asc protagonists Which moments? When he was captured by riverclan and had to fight his way out, or his development in thunderclan when he doesn’t mind Firestar being brought up anymore, or even the last chapter from his pov, I found it really sweet

I was extremely excited when Icewing because Icestar. Because this series was all about Riverclan I really wanted more Icewing time so when Ivypool's Heart dropped and Icewing(star) was an important character, my next leader theory senses started tingling. She felt like a somewhat obvious pick, especially considering that most other Riverclan cats weren't really plot relevant until ASC. Unfortunately however, she's named leader in the LAST THIRTY PAGES. The main issue is resolved thirty pages before the book ends. And Ivypool's Heart was the only build up. The only other proof was she was of age, had an apprentice, and is one of few competent cats in the series.
I was extremely excited about Frostdawn, Graysky, and Mistpool's names. The Erins did a great job with them. The plot point of naming Grayski and Mistpool Graysludge and Mistslime respectively felt like the first time in a while (or even since Foxheart) that a leader has named someone something demeaning because they didn't like them. I liked Frostdawn's struggle with coming back to the living, it felt way too relatable and might've been one of the best inner conflicts in ASC. For some reason Nightheart and Sunbeam felt...almost non-existent? The only things I remember happening to them was Sumbeam watching Berryheart die and when they all got really separated.

I thought Star was a generally good ending to the arc. The drama was definitely stretched too far and it had to rush through some of the rising tension and wrap up some storylines that were kinda messy from the earlier books, but overall i think it did a good job. Each section, no matter of its quality, was memorable.
Since this is about Frostdawn, i'll keep it short but overall she's a good heroine. her conflicts in the story and overall arc feel real actually challenging. Taking on Splashtail by herself even though she has trauma from the last time he attacked her and literally watched him kill a clanmate just two days earlier was bold and it felt natrual instead of out of no where since she had so much built up anger.
At first I thought her sudden retraction to saving her Clan in the chapters after was a weird turnabout and only served to make the timeline make sense (and it certainly did) but thinking about it, I dont mind that they did that. Even though Frostdawn has been an adult in warrior timeline since like half way in the arc, she is still young and has way too much pressure on her. being reluctant to deal with the shame, the pressure, the rejection she already faced from the cats who were supposed to love and support her is totally normal and I like the part where she was like "its time RiverClan figured it out themselves" or whatever. Yet her duty to her clan, her love for them and her fear of how she would feel knowing she didnt give her all wins in the end and while the whole Icewing being chosen moment was very vague and odd, I think Frostdawn's positive, happy sense of being at the end of her POV was just beautiful to see, truly.

Personally I thought this was the weakest book in the arc, it was pretty poorly plotted out for me, and missed so many of the opportunities that this arc gave it, leaving it to be pretty unsatisfying for me. I also am not happy with Icestar, even worse when she didn't have enough time in the book to really establish anything.
That being said, I think Frostdawn was the best part. I enjoyed how purposeful she was in fighting Splashtail, encouraging those around her, and I enjoyed her dream sequence even if it was a little strange that she had given up like that, which was probably just to pad time. But I also thought that a lot of the RiverClan cats were still super ungrateful towards her when she was in the coma, considering all she'd done for them while they followed Splashtail wordlessly. Her name is also pretty good. (The only better name would be Froststar lol)
