Arcane Season 2 has got me in a chokehold once again (do not send help)

Back in 2021, I made a thread about the first season of Arcane when it premiered on Netflix. And today, the second (and apparently final season although there will thankfully be spin-offs to it in the future) started premiering on there as well. The first three episodes came out this Saturday, the next three will do so the following one and then the final three the weekend after that. I personally was always a fan of the high quality animations, trailers, music videos and cinematics that were made for the League of Legends game even though I never played the game. So I highly recommend checking this show out for those who are interested in it, even if just on the basis of it being a video game adaptation. It has a great story, characters and action. Here are the trailers for both Season 1 and Season 2 (WARNINGS FOR FLASHING AND FAST IMAGES, THEMES OF DEATH AND VIOLENCE):

which like so have most of the characters ngl Vi is just my fave lol Already binged Act 2 and can't wait for the finale next Saturday. But yeah, I totally get that. Vi deserves to be happy. My fav is Jinx and I'm honestly so nervous how they'll resolve her character arc/journey even though I know she's doing great in the game universe (including the various animatics/cinematics).

binged it last night, I'm stressed about how this is going to spin out and how they're even gonna manage to wrap up everything that's going on in just 3 episodes, but I wasn't super sad about the end. the character in question got so little individual development and seemed more like a plot device for someone else's development so it just didn't hit as hard as I think it was meant to. I did get emotional abt Warwick and Vi tho lol
also am starting to have some character gripes but I think I wanna see how this all resolves before I make any final judgments.

I'm very much looking forward to how it will all be resolved (but again, also nervous about Jinx in particular). Apparently, Arcane was always only going to have 2 Seasons (there was a 5 Seasons rumor which turned out to have just been a joke made by the developers) but I do think 5 or at the very least 3 Seasons would've allowed the show a bit more time to breathe. It was always fast-paced, even back in Season 1 but Season 2 does feel even more rushed than usual. Don't get me wrong, it's still an amazing show and I honestly can't wait for the final 3 episodes to come out but there are some flaws when it comes to the pacing and such. I was sad because children dying always makes me sad. But I do agree that Isha sadly did not get much development on her own for the 6 episodes she was in the show. As for character gripes, I feel like the point of this show is to say that none of these (main) characters are flawless heroes. A lot of them are morally grey and/or end up making questionable choices/decisions with the information available to them at the time (or for other reasons).

Just gonna put the whole thing under a spoiler
They've been pretty lax abt actually killing off main characters (I'm not convinced Viktor is dead although it would be a welcome increase in severity if he were) so I kinda feel like Jinx is safe? Like oddly enough I feel like the only main character who is genuinely at risk is Jayce of all people, but I guess we'll see what they do.
I knew arcane was only supposed to be 2 seasons, and I was glad they weren't tryna extend it as long as possible to keep making money off of it cause it seemed like they actually valued the artistic integrity of the story, but I feel like there's too many sideplots going on at this point and some of the character arcs they're trying to write had to get truncated to fit the 2 seasons and its led to some developments not feeling natural. They either should have narrowed their scope a tad or they should have given it like one more season to breathe. Like at the current state I'm quite intrigued by what they've done with Ambessa and whatever's going on with Jayce/Viktor and the arcana, but I feel like the Jinx/Vi/Caitlyn half of things is narratively fraying a bit. Tho I guess its also possible some of the extraneous stuff they're introducing isnt actually relevant and is just setup for spinoffs.
I'm usually very upset with harm to children/child death so it's kinda surprising Isha's story didn't work for me, but she really was just there to prop up Jinx and aid her character development and that was frustrating to me esp cause some of it felt very forced. Like I think Isha as a concept was a good idea; having a character to give Jinx some direction and meaning wasn't a bad thing, even as a sacrificial catalyst it's not necessarily bad, but the execution just fell very short of what I think it could have been (again might also have worked better if they had an additional season to let this stuff brew for a bit).
And in terms of the character gripes I didn't mean like being upset w characters making bad/morally questionable decisions, I meant the messy writing. I think the show conflict is oftentimes at its best when the characters are acting in morally dubious ways lol like I've come out of this specific act kind of at odds with a lot of the fandom because I'm not particularly angry with what Jayce did at the end. The only character I can't stand is Caitlyn, and that's not cause I don't get her complexity I just don't vibe with her. But stuff like the Isha writing and Jinx and Vi's writing feels weaker this season as I mentioned before, and that's where I'm starting to get a lil aggravated. But again am very hopefully awaiting the finale before I solidify any critique on it lol Also random but the s1 soundtrack was good but the s2 soundtrack is phenomenal like there have been no misses this whole season.

Putting things in a spoiler as well. Viktor has apparently been confirmed to be the character getting a new skin/design which will be revealed for the very first time in Act III of Season 2 of Arcane as well as him getting shown to be engulfed in a new hexcore cocoon in the preview for Arc III too. He's doing great, just getting an upgrade lmao.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I know Jinx is safe in terms of her staying alive. My concern is for her mental state and her relationship with Vi as sisters.
I honestly don't think they will ever kill off one of the champions from the games (so Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, Viktor, Ekko, Ambessa and Singed seem pretty much safe imo).
And the fact is, even if some of them die, Ekko has those time rewind powers for a reason. Or some of the characters could also fall into the wild rune portal thing (maybe Jinx). There's just so many possibilities and I can't wait to see what they've come up with tomorrow.
Even with Warwick/Vander, I'm not so sure he's truly fully dead but we'll see. If he isn't though, that would make Isha's death/sacrifice pretty damn pointless so who knows.
And yeah, I'm glad that this series is not overstaying its welcome with like 5+ seasons. But at least one more would've been neat and allowed the narrative and multiple plotlines more time to breathe as well as develop some characters at a different pace.
Oh yeah, I get what you mean now. I still quite like Jayce (poor dude went through it in that portal and is clearly traumatized by what he saw). Arcane actually hasn't made me hate or even dislike a single main or major character yet and I'm still impressed with that because I usually get annoyed with some character types pretty fast lol. Fully agreed on the soundtrack, it's legit flawless! My personal fav is still the Sucker song by Marcus King where Jinx meets Isha for the first time. And the one by Woodkid (To Ashes and Blood) during the fight between Jinx, Vi, Sevika and Isha that was also in the trailer.

I'm kinda still mulling it over. I enjoyed the ending to the arcana/jayce/viktor arc, felt fitting and poignant, and Ekko having his moment was perfect. And obviously it kept up the amazing visuals and soundtrack. But I'm...underwhelmed at most of the other arc resolutions (though I guess some of them are deliberately left open for spinoffs). I'm disappointed in how they handled Vi's arc this season especially :/I do find it funny we were both like "yeah they wouldn't get rid of the major champion characters" and then All of That happened lol

But for Season 2, they said it follows the LoL game lore.
Which just doesn't make much sense when considering they killed off Ambessa (I was so suprised at that because she got made a champion and even had her own lore backstory music video not too long ago) as well as kinda killed off Jayce and Viktor (though I doubt/refuse to believe they are dead, them having been transported to another universe makes more sense to me). So that makes me think they are making some changes/updates to the established game lore soon.
