Not my conspiracy brain wondering if she actually got fired for calling out the editor team’s stupidity or something e.e’ But in all seriousness, I was very sad to see this on IG a few minutes ago. Best wishes to a woman who’s writing has been a valuable part of one of my biggest inspirations for the past 21 years <3 Hi, head mod for BlogClan here on my bi-annual check of wcrp! We mods have actually known about her retirement for a while because she disclosed it privately to us earlier this year. The decision to leave the Erin Hunter team was entirely Kate's, not due to any other external pressure ^^ As she put it, she just wants to "try something else before, you know, like, [she's] too old to see and think."

That's good to know, thank you for the confirmation. Hopefully this quells any possible misinformation down the line.

Next they'll announce Cherith is retiring too... I wonder what this means for the quality of the books going forward. There's a lot of lore and continuity to keep up with. or whether they will even continue the series

NO! we will miss her it makes me a little (a lot) bit sad to think of her leaving the book series she’s helped create for so long.

Oh this makes me sad but i understand cause doing anything like this for so long (what was it almost 20 years?) there comes a time when its enough. Ill be even sadder when Cherith decides to go.

This is still so sad to me and a bit surreal. Kate wrote the very first Warriors book with the editing help of Vicky Holmes and now she's not apart of the team anymore. I'll miss her writing, she's written some really good books for this series. I hope the new author will step into her shoes as well as possible. The iconic books in the series like some of the Super Editions...Bluestar's Prophecy and Crookedstar's Promise I will always remember fondly for reading them on summer vacation and discussing them with my brother. They bring back such happy memories, and without Kate none of those books would be around.
The first book I ever read or touched was Fire and Ice (I'm pretty sure? It's been so long I can't remember EXACTLY but I'm fairly sure it was book two) and it's sad to see that important figure go. I already said this, but I wish her the best.
