Seconding the "end of an era" comment. It's going to make reading Star very bittersweet, no matter how I feel about the actual plot. You know? I wonder what Warriors will look like when the "original team" of Hunters has all moved on. It's an odd feeling.
I wonder what she's going to work on independently? I'll be curious to see what her writing is like outside of the very specific and tightly-controlled environment of ghost-writing for such a huge series as it is now with the team deciding everything.

But in all seriousness, I was very sad to see this on IG a few minutes ago. Best wishes to a woman who’s writing has been a valuable part of one of my biggest inspirations for the past 11 years, and for many others for as many as 21 years <3

I can't say I'm surprised. Being an Erin Hunter seems like a terrible job; you're forced to write books for a series that you don't have any creative control over at a rapid pace, yet you're the one that gets blamed for poor writing decisions and bad quality control by people that don't know any better. This is the Shein factory of "literature". I know I would not have made it as long as she did.

I didn't always agree with her opinions (especially when it came to BrambleSquirrel but I do love that Frostpaw has become her new favorite character after it had been Graystripe for so long) but good for Kate, honestly. I'm positive Cherith will retire sooner rather than later as well. Truly the end of an era.

I can't say I'm surprised. Kate's been at this for a long time and she's written a good portion of my favourite books. Really wish her the best in her future. As most of you guys probably already know, Kate's written other books not related to Warriors and they're enjoyable reads.
This makes me wonder if Cherith, who is older than Kate, might be retiring soon too. There's no way they're having Cherith write all the 2025 content.

OH SHIT FR??? I missed that entirely. that's actually exciting to me lol ty for sharing I wouldn't mind seeing Rosie Best warrior cats books honestly. I think her writing style breaks up the frustrating misery that sometimes feels just kind of monotonous to read in WC at times |

I just went onto the website and got shocked with the farewell Q&A/article. I was like "Kate's leaving"?! I never expected that. Especially since Cherith is older. Well, may StarClan light her path forever and always and I hope she has a fantastic life.

Kate is leaving the series?? Oh my goodness! This is not the news I was expecting to log onto! I can't believe it. Oh Kate! How bittersweet! Happy for her to be able to pursue new ventures, but so sad for the end to an era! What will Warriors be without Kate, especially after losing Vicky? And now that you guys mention how old Cherish is, and her inevitable retirement in the next few years, I'm sure ... I've been meaning to get in touch with Kate for months, now I wish I had sooner knowing she's saying "goodbye" to Warriors. I better get on that!
