It's a long shot but perhaps you could try the Warriors Wiki Discord server (link is on the website home page under "Wiki Links" to the right)? There are numerous active users in there who have been around for a very long time, including staff and former staff, who may remember something about this. May not work but it's one more resource to try.

If we are narrowing down the search to ~2013, I have some insight of the canon Mapleshade at the time.
The first Ultimate Guide released in late 2013, and it had a Mapleshade section. It didn't explain her life in as much detail as her novella did, but it did shed some light on the deaths of her kits which was mentioned in Crookedstar's Promise. The book mentioned how she had become a rogue after her kits' death, and it implied that she was alive longer than the novella reveals.
While Crookedstar's Promise did tell us these events, the guide says it in a more objective lens and left a lot of room for interpretation on exactly how Mapleshade tormented the Clans in life.
Mapleshade's Vengeance was announced in early 2014. Perhaps the theory was made in lieu of an expanded backstory.
