RIP, Berryheart! You won't be missed!

Alright, Berryheart still wants to become ShC leader, refuses to kill Yarrowleaf (her younger sister) and takes the killing blow meant for Sunbeam. Our first death of the book! Also, Splashtail's now threatening the ShC kits. And Owlnose regrets not going through with the ceremony in Sky. Too late for that. Makes me wonder what his reaction when he becomes deputy will be.

Also, still no TC, WC or SkC deaths this arc. Only RC and ShC. I mean, ShC (like TC and SkC) does need to get thinned out.

I felt so bad for Sunbeam, though! The girl just wanted the mom she knew and loved back, but she ended up laying witness to her slaughter instead.

Really hoping for a high death count in this book. Don't let it be yet another war with minimal death please.

Also, want to point this out, Tigerstar II, Harestar, Icewing (Icestar) and Ivypool all trained in the DF in OOTS.

Also who were those future predictors who said Berryheart would die protecting Sunbeam because I owe you guys a cookie

Even if I’m against his deputy ship, his character development is written well imo. I’m glad he’s feelings are coming to the spotlight

Woah! Didn’t expect that! Bye bye Berryheart!
I kinda wish Berryheart went out protecting Nightheart, especially after what she said earlier, but this is also a good conclusion for her. She never really changed. She still does care about her daughter, and died protecting her. I hope we see her in the Dark Forest during a Frostpaw/dawn scene, but it’s kinda sad that this is how it ends with her and Sunbeam. I wonder if we’ll see Needletail in StarClan reflect on this? I’m also looking forward to how Hollowspring and Sparrowtail react.

I’m really liking Splashtail here. Mistslime and Graysludge are… certainly names!

Owlnose killing Berryheart while almost killing Sunbeam is interesting. I wonder how this will affect him if at all. I’m really liking what’s been done with him, though I wish he’d been more prevalent in Shadow, Thunder and Wind. I REALLY want a POV from him at some point now. Also interesting that Lizardtail ganged up on Berryheart with him! Small background cat characterization for the win!
Also Breezeheart being a Splashtail loyalist while ALSO having been Graypaw’s mentor AND having Icewing as a mother is interesting. As is Brackenpelt, who is Owlnose’s sister. I wish there was more time to delve into these two specifically, it’s little details like this that really build on these background cats. Maybe we’ll get a little bit on their reactions when the new leadership takes hold, but these little crumbs have so much potential.
