Dirtpaw hesitated, but stepped forward. Just as she said, the water was freezing. She shivered, but stayed put. "It's s-so cold!"

He knew it was cold, he could feel it seeping down through his fur and to his bones. "It'll pass," he assured her, though he wasn't sure how honest he was being. He sat down on the wet sand as the water pulled away again - and the next wave that crashed soaked him from behind his shoulders down to his tail. He ignored the fresh wave of cold and nodded for his apprentice to watch. As the water began to pull back, something glittered in the sunlight - a small silver fish, wading in the shallow water and then was carried back as the waves went to form again. "That is what we're after. The best way to catch them is to be ready to pounce as soon as the waves hit. Some warriors like to dig shallow holes that the fish sometimes get stuck in, but it's purely luck based and has no real way of knowing if it will work. I'd rather just catch it outright with my own paws. The water moves slow at first," he explained this as the next wave began to form and he dropped into an expert hunter's crouch, watching the water approach, crash, and then wash over his front paws and body. Right as the wave started to pull, he saw the glint of silver and pounced - lucky to grab the small fish in one swipe. He placed it outside the reach of the waves and nodded to her. "Give it a try." |

Dirtpaw nodded and gave it a try. When the next wave came, she spotted that glint of silver. She swiped at it, but was not fast enough. Not many fish came after that wave, but she finally spotted another fish. Carefully, she pawed it and pulled it close to her. She had caught a fish!

🎄tansypool🪿 - if I make some claimable apprentices/warriors for this clan and SeaClan (they are not as popular as TreeClan lol) will you help me rp for them until they're claimed? If you can't, that's fine. I just want to try and faux-fill the allegiances until more people (hopefully) join! this also goes for anyone else who would be interested in that

Brokenfeather watched as his apprentice missed the first try. He flicked his tail over her ear once to reassure her. "It's okay, go again." he told her, still crouched low enough for the water to soak his fur. He watched as she prepared for the next wave and then her head popped out of the water with a fish in her jaws. He let out a purr of approval and pointed for her to add her fish to where his lay in the sand. "Very good! Let's try again." he insisted, nodding for her to have another go. "Then we can go hunting in the forest before heading back to camp." he told her. |

Barkpaw's nose twitched. Something smelled different. He opened his eyes, accompanied by a yawn. Oh. Right. Apprentice's den. Not the nursery any more. He got to his paws, stretching his stiff muscles. Alrighty! First day as an apprentice. Barkpaw sizzled with excitement as he padded out into the clearing. The only thought of Hollystar being his mentor made him feel honoured and rather...intimidated. Hollystar did have a reputation for being hotheaded. But how bad could it be? After all, she's just a cat, like him. And she did have a lot of experience. Guess I'll find out soon enough. His eyes scanned the clearing for any signs of his mentor.

Hollystar | w/ Barkpaw (stardusted)
Hollystar stood up from where she had been resting after her dawn patrol earlier in the morning. Her gaze rolled around the camp, taking in the other cats as they went about their days. Barkpaw was finally awake and she lashed her tail once with impatience. She had been waiting around all morning for the young cat to be ready for training. She was going to be showing him some battle moves today. Yesterday they had tackled the territory, learning the borders and about how the other clans lived. With a stretch, she padded over to the apprentice and flicked her ear. "Let's go, Barkpaw. We're battle training." she meowed gruffly, her voice was hoarse and it gave away her age. She turned without waiting for an answer and headed out of the gorse tunnel. She stopped at the top of the tunnel for a moment and took in the scents of the forest. Hollystar closed her eyes and perked her ears, reveling in the sound of the ocean in the distance. As much as she enjoyed living in the trees, she was grateful for the fact that they still had sandy territory that led to the crashing waves. After a moment, Hollystar turned to head deeper into the forest, heading for the training hollow. |

Finally some battle training! He'd been awaiting this since forever. Just imagine! Once he could fight like a warrior, he could truly take on ShadowClan warriors, not just in a kit game of Clans. He hurried after Hollystar before he could lose sight of her black pelt. Slipping through the gorse tunnel, he followed Hollystar into the depths of the forest. His paws skidded on the scarped terrain. While he'd been into the forest with Hollystar a few times before, his paws still hadn't gotten used to the feel of rough terrain under his paws. It was a contrast to the softness and warmth of the nursery. But he liked it. The crunching of leaves underfoot, sounds of critters, scents of prey brought him a sense of satisfaction. There was a cool draft coming from beyond the trees, where the vast ocean lay. And SeaClan. It was beyond him how they could live in the middle of water. Don't they need, I don't know, dry prey? Barkpaw was a fish lover himself but fish all the time would become boring even for him. He fluffed his fur up against the cold drafts, which also seemed to be a sign of leafbare, and kept up with Hollystar.

Hollystar led the way down into the training hollow and then turned to face her apprentice. She sat down in the dirt and wrapped her tail over her paws and waited for him to get settled. "Alright, Barkpaw, this is your first battle session," she announced, looking around the empty hollow, trying to decide what moves to show him first. Hollystar had been quite the fighter in her hay day - but there hadn't been a good battle in many seasons and her age was catching up to her. If she was a regular warrior, she'd be well on her way to the elder's den. She shook the thoughts away and looked back at her apprentice. "Let's learn the basics. Front paw blow-" Hollystar stood and closed the distance between them. She stood in front of him and lifted one of her front paws. "You take your front paw and bring it down hard on your opponent's head - like this," as she said it, the she-cat brought her paw down on Barkpaw's head. She didn't do it hard, as to not hurt the young cat, but just to demonstrate the move. "Try it on me, don't be afraid to hurt me. I can take it." she assured him. |

He almost fully closed his eyes, expecting some overcomplicated attack involving claws, fur and blood...A paw bonked his head. Oh. Well, that wasn't so complicated. Should be easy. Maybe dangerous if you use claws. He made sure to keep his claws sheathed as he did his best imitation of Hollystar's move, raising his paw above his head and bringing it down on Hollystar's head. "Was that okay?"

Hollystar | w/Barkpaw (stardusted)Hollystar shook her head after the blow and gave an approving flick of her ear. "Very good. Now, in battle, you'll use claws and have to hit much harder. This move is good for stunning so you can go around and deal a damaging blow to their side with your claws," she explained. "Like this," Hollystar took a step back and drew her paw up again, slamming it down on the apprentices head - still not at full force, but harder than she had before - and then dashed to his right side, raking her paw along his pelt. She halfway unsheathed her claws, but only ripped some fur off of his pelt. Once she had gotten behind him, she spun around and used her front paws to sweep his hind legs out from under him. An expert combination - if she did say so herself. "That would be an idea of how to use the front paw blow to cause real damage to an opponent." she explained. |
