What are some objects or experiences that you remember from the past that date you as a person, from like your childhood or, if you are still a child, when you were younger?
I remember when grocery stores would have these coupon printing machines in all the aisles that would automatically print a coupon like an automatic paper towel dispenser. They were child height so it was fun to run around and collect all the coupons as a kid. I’m sure they drove all of the parents bananas. lol

I totally forgot about those! This one time I dispensed like forty coupons from one machine, and my poor mom lost it when she finally noticed. I was always really scared to ever take one again after that. Can’t believe I forgot about my irrational fear of coupon dispensers…

uhhh on a happier note when i was 3 i convinced everyone in my kindergarten that i couldn't speak some words in english because i was irish and english was my second language?? (why did i lie about that)

Remember how some stores used to have arcade games up front? When I was little, I often asked my mom if I could go play them when she was in the checkout line. Except I didn’t ask for change at first and thought I was playing them when they ran the preview sequences. XD

i feel weirdly dated by my memories of the chain stores that collapsed during my childhood/teenage years. Borders mostly, but like kmart and toys r us also. Visiting toys r us and borders were like Events to me as a kid and I have vivid memories of going there and now those places just. Don't exist.

I absolutely friggin loved going to Blockbuster. Ours had this big pillar like display thing for a while that was showcasing new tech and one of them was an interactive touch screen with a couple of simple games, popping bubbles, squishing bugs, and the like just to show how it worked. Back when lots of people thought touch screen tech would never catch on even though it was possible because it will be gross, have fingerprints, spread germs.... and well,

ordering a pizza friday night and going over to blockbuster to choose a movie or a ps2 game for the weekend while the pizza cooked. owning literally every Petz game I could get my hands on, first on PC then on my nintendo ds (the og one) and eventually the wii. wolfquest and animaljam. toys r us and justice. lisa frank folders for school. those "accelerated reader" tests. getting movies from netflix in the mail. going over to a friend's house for a few hours and then hiding from our parents when they came to pick us up because we thought we could trick them into leaving us behind so we could have a sleepover.
and, ofc, trying to get my friends to read Warriors so we could play Clans at recess.

I wonder if they still do that anymore because they would assign classrooms to roleplay as the confederate or union side.
