I'm pretty noise sensitive when I'm trying to concentrate on something.
The only time I listened to music while reading was in college, when I was trying to drown out other more distracting noises (e.g. roommates chatting) so that I could focus. In which case, the music in question was usually Gregorian chant - mostly because the fact it wasn't in English and a smooth, steady rhythm made it blend into the background for me. Filius et Filiae 2hr loop, my beloved.
Interestingly, that's also why I prefer chant during church service as opposed to more contemporary Christian music or English hymns. I can't do mental prayer when my brain keeps getting distracted by comprehensible lyrics. I like the way chant sorta blends into the background; it allows me to think.
But yeah generally I'm pro-silence. I only want music on if I'm actively paying attention to it, otherwise it's just distracting me from whatever I'm trying to focus on. White noise my beloathed.

Like for example I can listen to my song in my head and sing along in my head, but also have a narrator reading in my head, while also giving my thoughts in my inner monologue all at once. Like this: Singing my song: La La LaReading book/narrator: The cat ran from the dog.Inner monologue: Wow! That cat is really fast! And I think that all at once. This is incomprehensible to me for some reason. I can’t focus on reading if I’m thinking or listening to music, but this could be from my AuDHD.

question: do you know how many thoughts you can have running in your head at once? like how you think 3 things at the same time, what's the max amount of thoughts you can think? poll no For like, actual thoughts, I think only typically two at a time. Like during school I can be thinking about what my teacher says but also think about what I want to have for lunch, at the same time. I catch myself doing this during school a lot, so I don’t necessarily get too distracted, I’m just thinking to things at once. Example: Thought A: So how do I do two plus two?Thought B: I wonder what’s the main meal for lunch today and if it’s edible or notI can have the voice in my head saying these at the same exact time. But I don’t think I could do more than two actual inner monologues at once. If I’m doing something like reading or singing in my head, however, I can do that on top of my two inner monologues.

I sometimes catch myself running with multiple streams of thought at once, but if I try to focus on it, it slips away.
Sorta like when it’s dark and you can see out of your peripheral vision better, but as soon as you try to look directly at it, it’s just dark.

nah I can't read or write with music on.
I MUST have white noise for reading tho if I really want to focus. So like either the white noise wave thing or a fan

Recently, I've been using music to read. Not too much of a fan, but it helped to drown out the noise I wanted to go away.

I listen to really intense music when I read and for some reason it's actually very relaxing

No, I can't listen to music while reading. It's way too distracting for me and I'm unable to follow what I'm reading vs what I'm listening to. I can sometimes write with music on, but I prefer white noise or quiet background noise from a tv. I like to be able to focus on one thing at a time, but that's a different story.

I try to do it often, but most of the time the music hooks me no matter how captivating the book is, and I end up concentrating solely on the rhytm.

Instrumental music is fine, but I can’t do anything with actual vocals when I’m reading.

If I try to multitask, my mind will explode. On a serious note, I sometimes do listen to music while reading. It can't have lyrics or I'll get distracted.

I have to listen to music when I read, my thoughts tend to wander when I read in silence. I usually go for instrumental tracks though.
