Okay so I just finished watching this thriller movie that came out in like 2004. It’s called the Village and the rest of this post will be spoilered if you haven’t seen it yet.
I found it to be an entertaining movie on the whole, and I liked the two big plot twists, but I think the first one (being the fact that Those We Do Not Speak Of were just the elders in costumes) made sense and was a good plot point.
When you go back and rewatch the scenes, like where the creatures first come into the village, you notice the elders are now where to be found. Noah knew they were fake the whole time because he found a costume under the floorboards, but he couldn’t communicate this due to being mute, made sense when you rewatched the scenes because he’s never worried when there’s a situation with the creatures, he’s even laughing. Which makes him seem slightly psychopathic until you learn that he knew the whole time.
When Noah started wearing the costume to scare the villagers for fun or something, the first time was at the wedding. Everyone was dancing and having fun, but throughout the whole sequence Noah wasn’t there. When the two boys came and told the elders about hearing screaming and seeing a creature, the elders are truly scared, because they know they’re all at the wedding, so who could it possibly be? Well Noah proceeds to skin the animals alive and leave them as a warning, and everyone in the village is terrified, this time including the elders.
When Noah finds out that his love interest, Ivy, is engaged to another person, Lucious, he tries to kill Lucious, but instead near-fatally wounds him. Ivy knows that Noah did this and you can see her running to him when he is tied to a chair in a room he’s not allowed to leave, screaming, and slapping him as hard as she can. Noah doesn’t understand the consequences of his actions, and doesn’t fully understand what he even did. After the elders drag Ivy off him, and close the door, you can hear Noah’s screams and bellows for a few seconds before they switch to the next sequence.
Ivy asks to venture to the towns, to get the medicine Lucious needs to survive, and as she travels through the forest, which is where the creatures are said to live, Noah escapes in the costume, and ends up trying to kill her. Ivy outsmart’s “the creature” and kills it, not knowing it’s actually Noah, because she’s blind. I won’t say any more as not to spoil a HUGE plot point that ikyk but to those of you who don’t, GO WATCH THE FRICKIN MOVIE ISTG YOU WONT REGRET IT >:0000
