We've known from the Ivypool's Heart excerpt that Wrenflight has a big crush on Rootspring.
Do you think WrenRoot will end up as canon? Do you WANT it to be canon?

Maybe it'll play into a Rootspring SE 18?

I hope not. I kind of prefer the idea of Root staying single, but he focuses on his other connections instead: his family, his friendships with Shadowsight and Ivypool, maybe becoming friends with Spotfur.
Honestly I like the idea of post-TBC RootShadow or maybe him finding something with Spotfur if he has to be mates with anyone at all. Bonding over their shared experiences and all.
I don't like the idea of it being Wrenflight because she's just kind of a bg character and not someone I have much thoughts or connection with, so I can't help but be underwhelmed if she is actually a Rootspring love interest.

I would prefer not. Every other character that has had their first love die young has been shown moving on and getting another mate. It would be nice to explore the alternative of staying single with Rootspring.

It just feels weird to randomly stick a main character with a background cat we know nothing about

It would be nice to explore the alternative of staying single with Rootspring. Pretty much this. Rootspring is quite unique at this point, especially when it comes to previous main protagonist. He's not a medicine cat, he's had a past love interest, currently wants to stay single, and has post trauma and grief prominent in his development. This isn't exactly a common combination, and the only reason the Erins would probably shove him into a relationship is for potential new "protagonist fodder" which seems to be a common practice. Wrenflight seems nice, but her crush being revealed in the SE, with only two chapter implications, feels more like a throwaway than an actual set up. And even if they do make her Rootspring's love interest, I agree that it would feel underwhelming, because there's just no... development outside of "Oh she likes him. And he should move on."

It just feels weird to randomly stick a main character with a background cat we know nothing about I feel you here. Even though I support people moving on and finding new love, I admittedly also love romances with a "my one & only" type relationship. Graystripe's story of moving on and finding a second love with Millie was done beautifully, Crowfeather's was done... not so wonderfully (his breakup with Nightcloud was good but I don't think he should ever get back together with Leafpool who lied to him about his children for years and was shitty to Breezepelt & Nightcloud), it would be nice to explore a 3rd option with Rootspring. He can still live a fulfilling life without needing to fall in love again.

I’m kind of mixed about it being Wrenflight specifically, because I think she could be an interesting character. She was the only kit in her litter to survive, and it seems like she might’ve been closer to her parents than most young cats because of that. Her father even acted as her mentor. She’s also Bellaleaf’s daughter and Barley’s kin. I’m happy for her to see the spotlight, but I really hope they don’t reduce her character to solely “generic moony love interest” without factoring in her backstory at all or letting her have a personality.
I think it could be a lot more novel and interesting for Warriors if Rootspring preferred to stay single. But I’ll honestly be happy with whatever outcome as long as they don’t pressure or rush him into anything, and just let him decide what he truly wants right now.

I've lowkey shipped them since LS in a "wouldn't it be ironic" sort of way. Since Bristlefrost's death, I thought they could maybe get together years later after Rootspring has had plenty of time to grieve and accept her death. But this was under the assumption that Wrenflight would still have the calm personality she had before.
As she's being characterized now, hard no. She needs to calm down before this relationship could ever work.

I do agree that it's annoying how very few Warriors protagonists stay single (and even if they are functionally single, they usually have somebody ~waiting for them~ in the afterlife).
But... I really don't think Rootspring needs to stay eternally single because the girl he dated for like two weeks when he was a very young adult perma-died. I had no problem with cats like Crowfeather and Graystripe moving on for similar reasons.
If he finds somebody he's romantically compatible with and wants to become mates with them, I'm fine with it. Ivypool's budding resentment towards the idea of Rootspring 'moving on' and leaving her behind in her grief will honestly make this a more interesting take on the typical "man remarries after girlfriend dies tragically young" plot point Warriors loves so much.
EDIT: I actually prefer Rootspring x Turtleclaw though lol.

Tbh if Rootspring is to move on, I want it to be not so forced. Let him move on naturally. Let him find his next soul mate naturally. I feel like if the Erin's shoe horn him into a relationship with Wrenflight, it'll feel very forced on his end. Like he doesn't want to reject her so he forces himself to like her kind of deal.
