I made a thread a while back speculating about who would go with Ivypool on the journey in IH, and we got the answers back when the website posted the Ivypool's Heart excerpt: the cats going besides Ivypool are Dovewing, Rootspring, Whistlepaw, and Icewing.
How did you guys feel about the choices?
I'm very happy with all of them. I love Rootspring and I'm always glad to see more of him, I've really been liking Icewing in ASC, I think Whistlepaw is lovely and I'm glad she's been getting attention lately, and Dovewing was def the cat I wanted to go most of all, and there she is! Whooooooooooooo!! *confetti*

Excellent picks all around. Worth noting that Icewing is Beetlewhisker's mom, too- Beetlewhisker and Bristlefrost both being faded cats. Very relevant to Ivypool's grief, the thematic center of this book.
Happy to see Dovewing get some resolution with her sis, happy to see Rootspring again because I love TBC, happy to see more Whistlepaw because she's awesome. Overall a perfect set of picks to tell this specific story.

I’m really looking forward to this book. I’m counting down the days. I love all of the traveling cats.

Already been pointed out, but overall good group for this specific quest. You got some of the younger generation and some from the "middle" not young but not really old yet. I expected Rootspring to go on this quest, but not Dovewing because I forgot she wasn't nursing kits anymore, otherwise I'd have called her going. I adore Icewing so it'll be good to see more of her. Whistlepaw is like, okay. I got no strong feelings on Whistlepaw either way.

Good group minus one, because honestly there was a better pick there...

Good group minus one, because honestly there was a better pick there... Which one? Dovewing. Honestly would have preferred a different cat, Dovewing doesn't exactly scream "ShadowClan" to me. Feels like a missed opportunity to develop a background character, because I'll be honest, the only reason she's in the group is because of her association with Ivypool, as a supporting character. When Rootspring can already fill that role easily.

How much you want to bet that we're going to get yet another Dove-Ivy spat?

How much you want to bet that we're going to get yet another Dove-Ivy spat? Yeah it's obvious where they're going to go with this, and I just genuinely don't want to deal with that again. Also, this would have been a great opportunity to develop Pouncestep of all cats, who just exists.

I like Dovewing being on the group because it feels like their conflict kind of got left as a loose end after Dovey left for ShadowClan. I see this as an opportunity for reconciliation rather than just another fight.
Shadowsight would have been a cool pick for ShadowClan though just for the sake of reuniting what's left of the Broken Code protags

Ivy and Dove have been shown to already made up books ago. Just because they're estranged (which makes sense considering they're in different clans) doesn't mean they haven't already buried the hatchet. This honestly just feels like an excuse for the Erins to bring back old beef, and honestly I'm just not in the mood for them to beat a dead horse at this point, regardless of them being kin. Imo would have taken even Pouncestep or Shadowsight over her if it means they're going to possibly rehash the same thing between them. They didn't even get far in the journey yet and they already started to argue, and considering it's an SE I just know it's going to be dragged out.
Just because a character makes sense in a context doesn't make them an enjoyable one.
But that's just my opinion on the whole thing.

Just because a character makes sense in a context doesn't make them an enjoyable one. But that's just my opinion on the whole thing. I see what you mean, but I always saw them burying the hatchet as mostly surface level and something that just happened with time. Obviously I can't see into Ivypool or Dovewing's head about it but that's what I thought. I just think that having a fully fleshed out story of them accepting each other is worthwhile, and something that should be done while one of the sisters does have a POV. I don't especially care if they open up old wounds in doing so because I don't believe their forgiveness of each other went that deep and I think there really is more to explore. The horse is not dead. But yeah, I definitely feel that the Erins have dragged up old conflicts for little reason in the past, and it can be frustrating especially when nothing new is brought up. My willingness for a Dovewing/Ivypool conflict and resolution is only there if they actually expand on the two, which isn't necessarily a guarantee all things considered. Still, I can be optimistic.
