Exhibit A: Pip the Terrier ran away from his home and went Into the Wild. This is a similar parallel to iconic character Rusty, who left his home to go Into the Wild. It's really the beautiful details you have to admire in these books, regardless of anything else in them.
Exhibit B: He is a genius. By running away similar to Rusty, he accidentally causes a Riverclan patrol to run into Windclan territory. (I think, I haven't read Dark River in a while.) By doing this act, the Windclan army cannot reach Thunderclan in time for their invasion, giving Thunderclan time to prepare and meet Windclan and buy enough time for the Three, Heatherpaw, and her future emo boyfriend to escape the tunnels with the missing kits. It goes to show that even dogs, antagonized throughout the series, can be smart enough to save the clans just like how Firestar did. (Then two books later they all go into all out war because a hippie makes the sun disappear.)
Exhibit C: After making parallels with Firestar by letting the mutt go Into the Wild and then save the clans in their Darkest Hour, Pip the Terrier is given the choice to live out in the wilderness or go back home to his family, his cat buddies, and the horses. And like Jake, he makes the decision to go back. This shows that he has similarities to both the protagonist of the series, and his father. Beautiful.
Exhibit D: In Outcast, when the Three, the Sun-drown squad, and Emo Daddy Issues Jr. go on their way to the mountains, they pass by the horseplace, where Jaypaw hears the distant sound of Pip barking, but is thankful that the dog isn't near enough to "be a nuisance". Blasphemy. This shows the true tragedy of Pip's character. Pip the Terrier, who despite being the savior of the clans one book ago, is deemed as a nuisance. It shows the societal boundaries between cats and dogs. Despite Pip caring for the clans deeply, he is not allowed to be a healthy part of them without discrimination.
Exhibit E: In Bramblestars Storm, many seasons later, it is time for his demise. Smoky mentions that both Pip and Floss have died, buried in the horseplace. The horseplace cat sounds sad that the two of them are gone. This shows more symbolism with our true lord and savior, Pip. A true comrade who loved the wild and left to explore it just like Firestar, who saved the lives of many innocent cats, who was deemed as a nuisance by society despite his work, and finally decided he belonged in the horseplace, deserves nothing better than to rest next to his cat buddy in the horseplace where he truly belongs.
This might be the most tragic, inspiring, paralleled, determined, and intellectual character Victoria Holmes ever created. God bless Pip-merica.
