Warriors animation concept art shown at Tencent conference!

The designs look awesome!

Edit: I didn't have time to take a second look until now. Some of them definitely look generated, which is of course a shame. To give them the benefit of the doubt, hopefully this doesn't mean they'll use it for the final result.

I have mixed feelings; while I do enjoy some of the designs, some look very similar stylistically to creators we might already be familiar with (e.g. the concept art with all of the different Firestar designs). I was also really confused about the 'Starclan' part -- why are they bipedal? wearing robes? Why do some images look almost AI-generated?

Bottom line there are some things I like and are interested in, but I'm a little nervous as well. I'd prefer to see some actual animation reels and hope that they stick to the original story/follow it well and avoid adding the weirdly human-like Starclan traits and AI use.

Holy cow, this looks awesome honestly! I kind of like the various weird takes on StarClan tbh, I like when they're more mysterious and otherworldly.

I quite like the Tigerclaw designs.

Honestly it looks like they're kinda spitballing here with the designs, but most of them look pretty good! Is it going to be 3D animation? A few of the short clips (Pictures 3 and 4) look like they might be.

I like the last StarClan design (Picture 6) a lot! It's got to be some of my favourite depictions of StarClan cats, right up there with some of the Russian art. Picture 5, however... does look like it might be AI. I hope this is just for a concept picture, because I'm very against the use of AI in anything as big as this. Plus, I don't like those designs nearly as much as the picture after.

Are we really doing this? Nobody has confirmed the use of AI, there’s just speculation from commenters in the chat. Show me where in the video they mention AI.

Pretty sure they won’t do it for the actual final product, but for concept art I’d say it’s fine to use AI.

I misspoke (a little) as I had quickly typed the comment out. I meant to say "they [Tencent] have confirmed AI has been used [in their other projects]" as a vague response to the other replies speculating that some of this is generative AI.

I have no issues with people using generative AI in their personal projects and don't clutch my pearls over it as much as other people do, but for THE official Warrior Cats adaptation, it just feels lazy. And Tencent is not a company I'll ever happily defend. 


EDIT: It turns out that there is a disclaimer on the bottom left of the galaxy/StarClan cat concept art and the Yellowfang concept art (the two pieces in that hyperrealistic style) that says they were created using AI technology. I have my own suspicions about some of the other art, but these suspicions remain unconfirmed.

Yeah, I don't mind AI being used to spark inspiration or for concept art and stuff, but I'd feel kind of weird about it being used in the final product. HOPEFULLY it's only used in this preproduction stuff.

Love the concepts and ideas but just hate that AI was apparently used to create some of these images. Like, I get that it can help to inspire creativity but still think it to be in poor taste, generally.
