This poll got posted on the official Warriors website not too long ago and, as per usual, I decided to share it on here as a discussion topic.
As a sidenote, I had to adjust the original wording from the official website poll for the 2nd and 4th voting option a bit because it was over the maximum word count on here.
Voted for the fourth option (the original poll had it so the no option was first and the yes one last as well btw).

it feels like a highly individual situation to me that needs to be evaluated on a independent basis.

i picked the second option, though i also agree with saint ambrosef that it's also highly individual

I picked the second option as well. It just seems more reasonable.

I mean, unquestioned loyalty to any clan is never good in my opinion. I agree that it should take a longer time to gain the trust of the clan, but that's too far. Haven't we constantly seen that unquestioned loyalty is not the right way? I think new arrivals/returning cats should have the right to have their own views. That's why I picked option #4.

The new Clan is also placing the untested hopes that this new cat is willing to harm and turn against their family if a fight or war were to break out between their new and home Clan. (Not to mention carrying back Clan secrets to their home Clan while getting fed and trusted by a new Clan when they should be treated with suspicion as an unknown variable that is untested.) Intense distrust of a cat Clan-hopping with unproven loyalties should only be really done for adults, though. (Apprentices such as Tawnypaw shouldn’t have been treated with as much hefty suspicion by their new Clan but more reserved for warriors when love and duty are flighty concerns.)

Well, yes but I'm not asking that the clan trust the new cat completely, so I don't know what you mean by this exactly. I was only saying that new arrivals should have the ability to voice as their opinion as much as the other cats who are already in the clan. (Not that new cats should be allowed to keep old loyalties) There's no reason to force them to be perfectly servile if the cats born in the clan are not.

This idea of ‘unquestioning loyalty’ being any sort of trustworthiness measuring stick is bollocks to me. Never be uncritically compliant for societal acceptance, kids.
In times of crisis, the Clans typically need to band together and help each other out. They’re essentially culturally homogeneous - if you exclude honestly surface level distinctions like “RiverClan like to swim” or “WindClan run faster than the other Clans”. Ultimately, they are more hostile towards outsiders than each other (like the treatment of The Sisters in SqH). I’m going to be pretty reductive here, but one of the main villains of this new series is an “evil” conservative type that sets up saw traps because she hates the new laws legalizing immigration - that alone says enough about where they’re going with the message they want to tell here.
I think a cat that wouldn’t be loyal to their new Clan wouldn’t be loyal to their old Clan either - or any Clan at all. Think of the Clanborn antagonists. Tigerstar was directed towards wherever power was. By The Broken Code, Ashfur doesn’t even consider himself a Clan cat. Berryheart - the “evil” conservative I mentioned above - will happily take herself to a new Clan and assume a position of power. The point I’m making here is that cats who exhibit ‘disloyalty’ are more likely to be a threat to all five of the Clans, rather than whatever one they’re worming their way into… and they can be born within the Clan or outside of the Clan.
In fact, I think any Clan-switcher that follows the proper procedure and is willing to put up with the hostility from both their old Clan and their new Clan can almost immediately be considered trustworthy. It’s not like these cats don’t already have family and friends spread out across the Clans - so idk worrying that they won’t want to fight their brother in battle or whatever is hardly a new concern.
