Before my chronological read through of the Warriors series, my thoughts on Leafstar was that she annoyed me slightly; as most leaders tend to.
After some contemplation, and more insight from my read through, I think Leafstar may just be my favourite leader. Personally I think she is an amazing leader, exactly the cat that I would want in charge of my clan if I was a clan cat. I think that she is cautious and analytical in her dealings with the other Clans, with generally good intentions and a willingness to help where she can but not at the cost of her Clan. She consults with the warriors of her Clan openly. I think at times she can can be a hard but she is also fair in my opinion. She has been through a lot in her life (leading a revived Clan, losing kits and her mate, leading her clan to escape from Darktail, the whole journey to the lake and the tumultuous settling in period.) and in my head she's stolen the moniker "The Iron Lady".
I think she's a very consistently written character. I was a bit upset by her being (imo) cowed by Tigerstar in Squirrelflight's Hope, but I kind of understand why.
Just an appreciation post for Leafstar, I guess.

Definitely the 'Iron lady' of WC!
She's been in power so much longer than any other leader, and there's a reason why. Her approach really was perfect for SkyClan back in the gorge, and I find it interesting that she tries to distance herself as much as possible from the other clans because of that. It's sort of a reflection of her approach to the rouge groups back in the gorge.
I'm still hoping she doesn't join Splashtail in ASC, because that would be a stupid decision on the part of the writers. I think it's much more plausible for Berryheart to pull anti-code allies from other clans. But whatever happens, I guess. I do wonder what will happen to her in CS, though. I think she's going to die, but I really don't want Hawkstar unless he gets a whole lot more interesting again.

Leafstar's biggest "crimes" as leader have almost always been just like..being more open minded than the average clan cat and having too much faith in others at times. I can't blame her for assuming the worst of Tigerstar in ASC when he's been shitty to SkyClan in the past. I can't blame her for losing it in TRS when the lake clans were being selfish and cruel and or spineless. And so on.
I'll never forget the way people were convinced she was unreasonable and a stupid terrible leader who was just begging for her clan to fall apart in HJ because of like. The daylight warriors. Did Darktail take advantage of her and the way she runs SkyClan? Yes, but is it fair to blame her for his actions? Lol no it's not HER fault some jackass came along and ruined it

Tigerstar swings wildly depending on what the writers want from him, and the writers dumped Bramblestar in a fire after doing so much reflection and self improvement in his SE and going right back to the way he was (before his SE) in the next main series gave me whiplash, not to mention his.... tumultuous relationship with Squirrelflight. Harestar is boring, Onestar is an idiot and Mistystar is very aloof. Leafstar absolutely takes the cake for. A lovely solid leader imo! Can't comment too much on the recent books because I have been studiously ignoring recent releases so I do not waver from my read though path

I can't believe I completely forgot about how open minded she is! The daylight warriors were a fantastic idea for SkyClan in that situation. A very clever work around, and brings in different experiences and ways of life to the Clan. Darktail and the lake clans have jaded her quite a lot I think, which is sad. She does remind me a lot of Bluestar before her spiral in a lot of ways. Honestly SkyClan and Leafstar is what ThunderClan (especially under Firestar imo) THINKS they are.

This is an unpopular opinion but I don't like her much. Yes, she's probably been one of the best leaders but morally right doesn't equal interesting character in my opinion. I mean if lot's of people can like Tigerstar I then it can swing the other way. She's a really boring character to me. I can't think of anything of note in her personality. Now, granted it's not like she's the only warriors leader with no personality (Cough, Harestar, cough) but it does bring her down as a character. Edit: Woops, just realized OP said this was an appreciation post, my bad. I'm still gonna leave this up though 'cause I already wrote it all out. Different opinions are welcome! An echo chamber is now fun after the novelty wears off. I absolutely would have agreed with you prior to reading Hawkwing's Journey and Squirrelflight's Hope. The only positive I got from SH was my changed opinion on Leafstar. Let's be honest here: which other leaders would have been open to taking in the disbanded ShadowClan? Or trying to welcome Tree into warrior life by creating a new role? Yes, she shows irritation when things aren't going well, which is understandable, but she admonishes her warriors as required and makes an effort to try and implement and welcome new ideas.

I think Leafstar is a good leader and Skyclan is lucky to have her. This being said, I just care so little for Skyclan in general that my feelings on her are just kinda there. She exists, that’s cool, but I don’t feel strongly for her or her Clan outside of the Gorge. Which… they’re not there anymore, so that trait that made me like them a bit is pretty much gone.

One thing I find sort of interesting about her is the inconsistency in her design

How come you care so little for them? i find their story quite interesting, and I like them beside the lake. Probably because Leafstar gets more time to shine lmao

Probably because Leafstar gets more time to shine lmao They were just different from the main Clans so it was hard to get used to a 5th one. That, and while the gorge was great, I really disliked how awfully the Daylight Warriors were treated, it soured the Clan for me for a while, and now that they aren’t even in the gorge, they lost the uniqueness for me.
