For the last bit: It now makes me wonder if they intentionally sent Icewing because she can relate to Ivypool about a kit getting snapped out of existence. I wonder if she's going to have a serious talk with Ivypool (and maybe Rootspring to an extent) about how she was able to handle her grief and healing process that she knows that she'll never see Beetlewhisker again. If the chapters we have right now are any indication, that's probably it. Why else would they mention Antpelt if they weren't going to expand on faded dark forest cats? Icewing's also the only cat that we know for certain is (or was) in Ivypool's position.
I think that the cats chosen for the journey were very purposeful, and it will make for some interesting conversations for sure.
I'm very excited for IH now that I know everyone who will be on the journey, and more detail. I have to admit, the blurb had me skeptical, but now I think this will turn out as one of the better Super Editions. I actually think I would’ve preferred Shadowsight over Dovewing (or pull a TNP and send them both after they both stubbornly refuse to back down lol) but I agree - the cats selected seem very intentional.

SUPER happy that Icewing is joining the Cats. She was always one of my favorite background characters and I’ve enjoyed her character development and momentum in this current arc. We ALSO get assigned pelt colors and genders for Branchkit, Grasskit, Floatkit, Rapidkit!

I'm literally going to start crying, I love how well written and realistic Ivypool's grief is written and I just want to give her a hug. I really hope she can find peace during this SE because she deserves to be happy Cherith's writing is amazing and this preview is really strong so far. I'm also happy we're having more spotlight on Whistlepaw!! This SE is shaping up really well so far.

Yay! This is the first time Wafflepaw is listed in the allegiances. It's nice to see. But what I was waiting for, the descriptions for the new kits. Minus Leafkit since we already knew what she looked like. Branchkit is a white tom-kit, while Grasskit is an auburn she-kit. I feel like Grasskit is the first cat in the series to be called auburn, but I might be wrong. Floatkit is a tawny she-kit, Troutkit is a brown-and-white spotted tom-kit and Rapidkit is a gray-and-white she-kit. Interesting, Icewing, Duskfur and Mothwing are still listed in RC. But of course, we now have Berryheart, Hollowspring and Sparrowtail being listed.
I'm gonna skip the prologue since we already know it, but I'm still happy that it's in Whistlepaw's POV.
Aw, poor Ivypool and Rootspring. I do truly feel really bad for them. I wish Bristlefrost was at least in StC. I've never liked the full on fading thing. Interesting that Wrenflight has a crush on Rootspring. I wasn't expecting that. On a side note, we now know exactly when in ASC this takes place. Immediately after Wind. Which means that the TC Clan scenes won't be in Star. And, of course, Ivypool knows of the "blood will spill blood" prophecy and Brambleclaw killing Hawkfrost. Ivypool, you kind of forgot about Snowbush. Then again, you didn't mention Twigbranch alongside the cats who were still alive either. Aw, Antpelt. Looks like Ivypool clearly still feels guilt over killing him to prove her loyalty. Honestly, I would as well. And I really love how Fernsong is characterized here, with both of them dealing with their grief in different ways.
Emergency Gathering... with no RC. Not surprising. Wrenflight is apparently a graceful she-cat, but they got her description all wrong. She's supposed to be a golden tabby. Interesting that StC is just as clueless... but then why was Mistystar at the end of Whistlepaw's dream? Whistlepaw and Rootspring were easy guesses for this journey. They seemed pretty obvious. For ShC, I was conflicted on Dovewing or Tawnypelt since they both have experience traveling, but Dovewing would have more of a connection with Ivypool due to them being sisters. Nice to see that it was Dovewing who decided to go. She was even the first volunteer. And Ivypool seems so happy that she'll get to spend time with her sister.
I'm loving Fernsong even more right now. I wish we could see more of him in this book. And poor Thriftear and Flipclaw. Don't worry you two, your mother will come back. I'd be heavily shocked if she didn't. And Cinderheart is now in the temporary deputy role. And... Icewing. RC was the Clan I was having a hard time deciding on since I couldn't see Splashtail sending anyone from the start. I'm glad it's Icewing. I'm super happy that we get to spend more time with her. And this also means that she's safe from Splashtail. Now let's hope she survives this quest. Also, a new face description for her: a sharp, pointed face. Ivypool and Dovewing acting like sisters is so cute.

Interesting! I really love how realistic and raw Ivypool’s grief is. This preview is really strongly written so far, which makes me even more excited for when it releases!

I’m really excited, and interested in how this will be a part one of two super editions.
I’m also hoping they don’t spoil the ending of Star too early, because it might seem likely.

Any idea what the symbol means? I’m struggling to even picture what the “vines” would be, but I’m imagining it’s some kind of warning sign for electricity. Like an electric fence, or something?

Honestly, excited for this book so far, already have it pre-ordered. I tend to lean towards Cherith's writing style because she's really good at expressing characters and their emotions, and this preview alone already proves how well she does it.

Mixed feelings on this. Sometimes the writing is so good, like how Ivypool's grief is portrayed, and other times it's so incredibly on the nose and spells every little thing out. I get this is a kid's book, but 12 year olds are smarter than the writing sometimes gives credit for.
This is also a frustrating reminder that the authors seem to only know how to write emotional characters in one way. It's a realistic grief response here and consistent with Ivypool's character, so it's not a criticism of its particular use here, but the Erins' default is upset = lashing out. Where are the characters that become apathetic? Who bottle it up? Who quietly sink into despair? Who act bitter? I'd just really like to see more range in how they write characters' emotional responses to distressing situations. Every protagonist as it is acts the same way in these scenarios.
I'm very curious to see where this plot is going, though.

I love that Ivypool and Rootspring get together to talk about their grief. Absolutely euphoric.

This is supposed to be a two parter? Who is the next protagonist for an SE? Pretty sure they said on the website once that the seventeenth SE would tie into number 18, that’s one of the reasons why Bright Guardian Akira theorized that they’d bring back Bristlefrost. They didn’t announce who SE 18 will be about though.

About that prophecy : I haven’t seen anyone talk about it yet. When I read it my mind immediately went to Podlight and Splashtail. They’re related and in power positions. They might fight each other.
