Hearts Over Feathers
~~~
The title is a somewhat obscure reference to the concept of weighing a heart and a feather on a scale- And ties rather neatly into my Plot~
ᡣ𐭩.ᐟ Your character had been experiencing a sudden onslaught of misfortune and near death experiences as they grew older, but at one seemingly inconsequential moment, it all stopped. Or was at least carefully averted, in a sometimes suspicious manner. Bullies would suddenly forget that they had any intent to harm. Harsh bosses would abruptly take permanent vacations. The man that had been following them while they walked alone ended up almost walking into traffic instead. Your character would suddenly find in their possession whatever they verbally expressed a desire for. It all seemed too good to be true. And it is. A dangerous incident reveals that they have not one but two Guardian Angels protecting them from a world that is much more hostile than they were originally led to believe. Theirs is a special destiny that cannot afford to be hampered or redirected, and yet it's subjected to a little of both at the breaching of their first law- Guardians are not to reveal themselves to their Trusts involuntarily or otherwise, but unfortunately- depending on how you look at things- These two in particular are rather rebellious. They're safe as long as they can avoid breaking any other rules- Particularly in regards to the heart...It's simply a matter of weighing feathers over hearts, and not the other way around. ᡣ𐭩.ᐟ
Other Info::
-; Looking for semi to advanced writers~ -; I hope you don't mind action and fantasy/supernatural elements~ And action. -; Not meant to be a typical romance but my boys can't help being fluffy dorks anyways so~ -; Your character can be anything from a very important human to magical royalty or a prophesied hero- I'd like to give you some autonomy~
-; In this story, Guardian Angels aren't actually angels- They tend to be magical beings on parole, so to speak. They serve as Guardians until it's deemed that they've served well enough to be released. Their wings and halos serve more as marks of their convict status- More to be explained as we write!
Okay! In the meantime-
Just a few quick (written) character sketches of possible Guardians! You can just tell me (however many you like) who you're interested in learning more about and I'll go into more detail~ Their names and designations are secret for now so I'm giving them cutesy nicknames to differentiate them! ===
Buttercup: Princely, orderly, compassionate, and altruistic- yet does anyone really truly know him? He keeps everyone at arm's length and strives to be 'perfect' at all times. He gets...antsy when he's not in a position of control but is ever-smiling and gracious. Very attentitive toward those in his care and would much rather turn his focus outwards than dwell on himself and his own perceived failures. Makes an effort to appear as approachable and unthreatening as possible but is still under intensive watch and isn't trusted by his handlers. Still, years of good behavior has earned him this opportunity and he is determined not to fail. He will do whatever it takes to succeed. Whatever. It. Takes. Romance Fact: Has a secret sketchbook full of everything from detailed sketches to doodles of them. Thinks it's a terrible habit and weakness but can't help it...and it's still a secret after feelings are revealed but they may still catch him drawing their portraits on napkins and scraps of paper.
Birdie: Arrogant and combative, but surprisingly easygoing. A slacker who seems solely motivated by violence and the opportunity to engage in as many brawls as he can find- or orchestrate. It's a wonder he even got into the program, as nothing about his behavior suggests any kind of remorse or reflection on his past. Hides his intelligence behind rough words and an insouciant attitude. Initially flighty but can be unwaveringly loyal, and though he's generally just playful, he is never one to break a promise. Romance Fact: Loves gift-giving, particularly gifts that he's made himself. Can sew and make crafts, so he'd find out their favorite animals/characters and make plushies for them. He can also sew or knit clothing and accessories- he has to occupy his hands when he isn't beating people bloody after all~
Twilight: In a word, intense. He puts 110% of himself into everything he does, even something as relatively inconsequential as making breakfast (which he always fails at). Wants to be compassionate and well-liked but also consistently fails to understand the nature of kindness. Every smile is a conscious decision, as is every 'kind' action. He's naturally more inclined to ruthlessness as it's usually the simplest solution, but is making an effort to change. Earnest and blunt, he's learned to say what he's thinking because he knows that he's hard to read. He doesn't always understand the responses he gets, as he's still learning to socialize normally however... Romance Fact: Very tactile and open with his affections. He can't be in the same room and not be touching them in some way. (His intensity makes him obsessive. Why yes, he does need to know your blood type and the exact pattern of your heartbeat. Just in case!)
Opal: Outwardly? Saintly, gracious, serene...And that's all you'll ever see! Really! Occasionally something flirtatious, sarcastic, or violent may slip out...but those are isolated incidents that have no bearing on who he is as a person. Honest! There are moments where he seems to chafe at his lot in life but he bears it all with concentrated optimism. Outgoing and playful, but tries to temper his teasing nature and fondness for more fun than his role allows. There are quite a few moments where he slips up, however... Romance Fact: The type of person to dole out never-ending teasing, flirting, and banter but can be utterly disarmed with genuine affection. Say something loving and he'll immediately retreat because he cannot show weakness. Hold his hand and watch him struggle to act normal. He may forget how to breathe for a minute or two...
Rosebud: Compassionate and altruistic but self-effacing and anxious. He'd honestly rather avoid others as much as possible but duty sees him always acting against his wishes. There's a quiet sort of sorrow to him, but he strives valiantly to be there for those who need him and will do everything from saving a cat from a tree to patiently listening to an elderly lady tell him meandering stories while he weeds her garden. Of course his handlers disapprove of how often he becomes distracted from his true job, but his record is otherwise flawless. He speaks as little as possible but is always patient and polite, almost to a fault...When defending others, one may be able to glimpse a hero in his knightly bearing, but is that his true self or a glimmer of what he once was? Romance Fact: He struggles to express himself and so communicates primarily through the language of flowers. Their home will be so full of flowers- he greets and bids farewell with the appropiate bloom, and tends to 'hide' them as a surprise gift.
Dimples: Cocky, vain, and fond of his own voice. He's either preening or making nice with the locals- usually both- a definite extrovert who brings his handlers no end of grief with how often he likes to flirt along the edges of their very strict rules. And propriety. He doesn't live as if he's a prisoner or criminal, choosing to do as he pleases (as much as he can) and enjoy life in every way available to him. Often believed to be shallow and lazy, but he doesn't care enough about what others think to disavow them of their negative opinions...the fact remains that he has succeeded at every assignment thrown his way. And always with style, of course~ He tries to keep up an irreverent persona but is occasionally revealed to be responsible and downright chivalrous when the situation calls for it. Romance Fact: Really loves fashion and dressing up his partner. Even if they don't care about it as much as he does, he still wants to be involved in their choices. Just a hoodie and jeans today? Fabulous! But only The Best and Most Comfortable. He will buy clothes in their preferred style for himself- just to give them away so that he can see them wearing his clothes. Not that he doesn't also 'casually' offer his own when the opportunity arrives.
Petal: Prickly and sharp-tongued. He sees no point in developing bonds with anyone and doggedly keeps others away with his foul mouth and caustic attitude. If one bothers him enough however, they'll learn that he's more irritable than prone to losing his temper. His words and actions often fail to match up as well. He will cut you to pieces with his tongue...while carefully tending to your injuries. He will insult your intelligence while tucking you into bed. He will complain endlessly...while dutifully making you a healthy breakfast. Conscientious and secretly- it's a secret!- honorable, he can't seem to help himself when it comes to caring for others. In fact, he can exhaust himself in service of others with nary a thought for himself and his own well-being. Romance Fact: A complete and utter housewife. He can cook, he can clean, he can sew and care for children- In fact he will cook, clean, and care for children. You can't stop him. He will take care of you against your will if need be. Expresses himself through acts of service with a particular fondness for cooking and preparing food for them.
oooo! dimples, petal and twilight are definitely intriguing. opal, too!
i have a few options as well, though not as many. some are more developed than others, so i'll give a (very) short description and let you know how well i know them already haha feel free to ask for more information, or let me know which sounds most interesting
the pianist: observant, gentle, surprisingly lazy. should almost definitely call his family more often - they all say they're close but his sister hasn't heard from him in weeks. in fact, he's generally terrible at answering texts and the phone, but he's talkative and affectionate in person.
probably best suits a modern setting where he's a regular joe, but can be easily adjusted for a more historical setting if that's the direction we want to go. regardless he's always entirely human and is involved in greater happenings by forces outside of his control and, almost certainly, knowledge. was one of my regulars years ago but hasn't really been in rotation since 2019, so i'd probably need some time to warm to him.
the politician: suspicious, argumenative, decisive. is a great secret keeper and a better liar. it takes a while to get her comfortable with you, but once you've gotten that far she's a loyal and generous friend. sticks to her convictions and is willing to do almost anything for the sake of her principles.
works equally well in modern and historical settings. is almost always either a politician, diplomat or activist, depending on setting. usually has some sort of magical ability - in her first itteration she was a vampire but since then she's also been a magic user and a psychic medium. also an oldie, but i've spent more time with her so i already feel comfortable, would likely just need time to adjust her to the setting and her new "role"
the psyochometric: curious, focused, image-concious. either incredibly interested to the verge of obsession or decidedly not. surprisingly sharp with people, is easily offended and often fails to not make it everyone else's problem. he's not exceptionally emotional, but he is very emotive and easy to read as a result. easily flustered and easily stressed.
has previously only been used in historical settings, medieval and 1800's specifically, but would probably work in a modern setting as well! is psychometric, that is, he can see flashes of an object's past through touch. has been both an academic and a soldier in previous iterations, so is flexible in that sense. one of my current favourite children, the one of these characters i'm most comfortable with right now.
Oh glad you think so! And I'm especially glad that you chose those four- As the Guardians are actually a team so we can choose two of them! And I've been really fond of the Black Cat/Golden Retriever comedy duo lately hehe~
Dimples: I'm just trying to befriend him but he keeps coming up with creative ways to punish me for my hubris... Twilight: *swigging Dimples' expensive cologne like it's vodka while looking the other man dead in the eye*
Opal: Hey Petal, that smells great! What's for dinner~? Petal: The hell're you asking me for? Go figure it out. *slams the door in his face* Opal: Wait...This is my house...? You're cooking with my food?! How did you even get in?!
More detailed info on the four incoming- and we can mix & match the teams to best effect~
As for your three...hmmm, it'd probably depend on how well you think they'd gel with the personalities I have on offer! And it seems like you're at varying stages of writing comfort with them, so who do you most feel like writing? ^^ I tend to just offer characters to match whoever my partner wants to put forth! But to kind of answer you- it looks like The Politcian and Dimples, Opal, or Twilight, The Pianist and Petal, Opal, or Twilight, and The Psychometric & Dimples or Twilight would be interesting dynamics. Just off the top of my head! What do you think~?
And the setting/background can match your character as well! Guardian Angels tend to come from different worlds regardless of whether we're going modern or fantasy!
i'd be more than happy with any of them tbh! as far as setting goes, it's been a while since i did a modern setting, so that's probably what i'd be more interested in - if you're good with that ofc :P
your combos are pretty much exactly the ones i'd pick out lol, so that's perfect. i do think the psychometric, twilight and dimples would be an especially fun trio - the psychometric is probably who i'm leaning toward even if i'm drawn to all of them for different reasons. otherwise i think the pianist, petal and twilight would be a fun combo.
Sure thing! The boys're from a high fantasy world so sticking them in modern society would be fun~
Gotcha! I'll go into detail on those two, then! (They would be a fun trio! lol Petal would be in ~despair~ trying to take care of them both- he'd have Twilight on a leash while he's desperately looking for the Pianist because he hasn't answered the 13 back-to-back "where are you?!" texts for a whole minute- )
And maybe you could give me more info on the Psychometric? Like now that we know he's in a modern world, what would be his need for protection? If he's an academic, maybe he discovers something that will impact history at a later date? Or as a soldier, he becomes instrumental in a conflict? Just some ideas!
right? contrast of any kind is just my thing.
i'll find his character sheet right away :D in the meantime, setting-adjustment: in a modern setting, i think he'd definitely be leaning more to the academic side of things. i could actually really see him as a high-school teacher or something similar, but since he's going to need to be important somehow maybe that makes less sense. unless his job is to be a mentor figure to the actual "chosen-one" later down the line, in which case it could work. otherwise he could be just a straight up researcher. his ability makes him a perfect historian, but he's more interested in the natural sciences and in a usually-no-magic world i think he'd be drawn to fysics or, less likely but possibly, linguistics. if the world is aware that magic, under that name or not, exists, then i imagine that's what he'd be studying.
i'm more rambling now than anything, but depending on setting i could bake it down to three reasons he's be important: * he's an important side-character in another character's world-changing story. would work if he was a teacher, and probably best in a world without open magic-use * like you mentioned, he's an academic who somehow discovers a vital piece of information. in the case that the world is openly magical, this is likely in his work as a magical researcher. in the case that he is, to his knowledge, the only magic user he's likely in a different field and discovers it by accident (probably through his power) * his power itself is what requires protection. the reason he has it is the reason he's important - maybe he has important magical parents, he recieved it from a higher being of some kind who has since gone missing and he's the only person alive who could have any information about it, etc. would definitely work better if he has no idea magic other than his exists, and probably even better if he doesn't understand the value of it.
like i said, mostly rambling lol i'm good at that cx i personally think the later two options are more interesting, but it could also be a fun subversion to not have him be that important in and of himself a la option one.
Honestly, same! Lol I tend to ramble when I get caught up in my head- but yours are easy to read and cohesive!
Ooo, those are some great ideas! Making him a magical researcher would be fun! He could discover some missing element of magic, or a special object that would require protecting him while he figures it out. We could even place him in a world where magic is a secret so there are people trying to either use him, steal his research, expose it, or destroy it?
I really like the idea of his power being important! And receiving it from a missing powerful being has that 'grand quest' element to it~ He could even use his ability as a researcher/academic to help solve the mystery! On paper Dimples & Twilight are intelligent but they're actually on the Himbo Spectrum™ It could also be that just no one has ever had that magic or it's incredibly rare, in which case we can craft something of a political drama where multiple factions want him on their side. Maybe even a Big Bad who needs his specific ability for some master plan?
Him being a Chosen Mentor is a very cool subversion too! I'd like the angst of knowing he may be destined to die to further the protagonist's story hehe~ And it could be a relatively low-level mission that might trick the boys into letting down their guard...I think in this case, there might be less action. At least initially? What kind of mentor would he be? Like the philosophical kind that gives great advice or acts as a psuedo-parent? Or would he teach them a specific intellectual field?
Of course I'm just revolving ideas in my head! What do you think? ^^
i'll paste a more thorough description of him below, but it'll almost definitely need to be updated as we settle on the setting a bit more:
Edwin, sometimes simply "Win" to his friends or "Teddy" to his family, is a thin man a little short of average height. From a distance, though, he often looks taller, thanks to long legs, a narrow waist and straight backed posture. He's never found much joy in going to the gym, so his main form of excersise is long walks, which surprises exactly nobody. Win's dark, loosely curled chestnut hair falls over his forehead, but is never long enough to get in his eyes. Has several moles dotted around his face and body, most noticably one just below the left corner of his mouth. His eyes are hazel, lined with dark, thick, short eyelashes, and deep set; his skin pale olive. His nose is pointed and lips more thin than not. Highly aware of how he might appear to others, Edwin dresses exclusively for comfort in his home but wouldn't dream of going out in the loose sweatpants and worn t-shirts he really prefers. Instead sticks to simple shirts, slacks, and comfortable, clean shoes.
Edwin is a curious, observant person. He approaches puzzles with optimism and patience, and could willingly spend a lifetime cracking a code that intrigues him. That being said, this is the exception to the rule and he's not generally a patient man. Anything that doesn't immediately appeal to him he sees as a waste of time, and he finds working with others tedious as collaboration and compromise are not his strong suits. Though he does enjoy getting to know people, Win is a classic introvert who enjoys his own company and finds other people tiring, which doesn't help his tendency to be short with people. He's easily offended and easily stressed, which often affects the people around him. Even to strangers, Edwin is easy to read and figure out, something that used to bother him when he was younger but he's slowly starting to accept. Self-concious to a fault, Edwin is always considering how other people view him. He's well mannered and polite, and tries his best to be kind as well. It bothers him especially to be seen as stupid, but being disliked in general is also difficult for him. Often finds himself wishing he could be more of a people-pleaser, but is too stubborn to really succeed in that.
Since his childhood, Edwin has been able to see an object's history by touching it. He doesn't have perfect control over this, and can find himself seeing flashes of the past without want or warning. This happened more often when he was a child, and continues to happen especially when he's tired or otherwise overwhelmed. Memories with strong emotions attatched find him easier, and the more distant past is, well, more distant. He can force these "flashes", as he calls them, but can only search for moments in time, not for people or other objects he might want to track. Sifting thorugh the past takes effort and energy, and doing so by force can leave him drained and with massive headaches if he's not careful - not all too unlike pulling an all nighter in the library might.
ooo there's so much fun stuff we can do! i really like the angst of a predetermined death, and a mystery is always fun. we might be able to combine the low-stakes mentor-protection-agency-mission and the mystery plot, even. idk exactly how, but if the mission just starts out as "go protect this guy who we need to teach our prophesised hero in a few years" and nobody involved even knows he has the abilities he has, it could shift into being more of a quest to solve the mystery once they realise. again, idk exactly how, but i can sense there's something here.
i like the idea of him being a magical researcher in a world where magic is not known to most. maybe he has a day job as an archivist or something, idk. either way, i'm imagining it's probably a very small team of people, each on some corner of the planet, working on keeping records of what little magic exists. maybe there used to be more, or maybe earth (or whatever world this is set on) is an exceptionally unmagical planet/humans exceptionally unmagical. it's in that role that edwin needs protecting - he's one of very few left who know about magic and he's one of ever fewer dedicated to understanding its rules, so he'll be instrumental in teaching the Chosen One™ to use their own magic. in this case, and i think regardless, he'd be more the practical kind of teacher, who knows the rules of the game so to speak, but is destined to be quickly surpassed by his student in skill and ability. maybe there's a prophecy of some kind that he will eventually die protecting his student, which is why he cannot die or leave his post before then.
the guardians/their bosses have access to information lost to humans (or maybe they didn't ever have it to begin with) pertaining to the nature of edwin's specific power, so they know it's important because of it but he doesn't, and since he assumes they must know already and they're not saying anything about it, he must be right that it's not relevant and doesn't bring it up. but sometime after edwin learns about the guardians, they learn of his ability anyway, which immediately changes the stakes of it all. could turn into a search for the being that game him the ability, or it could be as you say that several supernatural factions want him for their cause. idk, let me know if you have any thoughts!
i understand if you want to keep some things secret, but is there anything you can share about how you see the guardian angels working? sort of the mythology behind them i guess. i feel like it might help figure out the general direction
Oho, I think he'll be fun to write with~! <3 He's almost the Consummate Academic Type I like him already- Although with Twilight and Dimples around, He Will Not Know Peace Dimples would give him nicknames like 'Wiseguy' and 'Da Vinci Code' and Twilight doesn't cite his dubious sources
Right?! A good 'ol predetermined death is always fun~ No no, you're right! That'd be a great way to combine the two! There's definitely something there- it could be that it wasn't foreseen that he'd have any kind of magic so now the everyone has to wonder what else can change. Or! His magic is actually the exact kind that the Chosen One is meant to receive so again, the higher ups are boggled. In every case a kind of side-plot would be trying to figure out how and why he got them.
That sounds good too! (and I'm thinking earth for simplicity's sake) And that's exactly what I was thinking! Makes me wonder what he'll think about it when/if it's eventually revealed~ The Guardian Angels obviously can't tell him of their purpose or what the future may hold, but things may come to light later? Perhaps during an impassioned confession~? *wink*
Yep, that sounds about right! What are you thinking~? Mystery of the powerful being or multiple factions clamoring for his research/magic? I'd like to do both but I don't think I should juggle too many subplots on my first rp back haha ^^"
Sure! The secrets more concern the Angels themselves, so I can spill about their organization!
It's known as EDEN on earth, comprised of powerful otherworldly beings who can see into the futures of different worlds, as well as travel between them. They've taken it upon themselves to manage the worlds they can access and see them flourish where possible. However, by nature of being what they are- often trapped outside of or in between time and space- they require go-betweens to see their will done. The Archons are also responsible for dealing with threats that rival them in power, so they've decided to multitask by subjugating those threats and turning them into subordinates that carry out missions relating to their overarching one. Known as Guardian Angels by the humans they protect but also called Patrons and the Eudaemon, they are the formerly massively powerful people of various worlds who could have- or succeed in- chaos and mass destruction. Once inducted (usually forcibly) their names are stricken from history and they're henceforth assigned one of the seven deadly sins to always remind them of their guilt. They are kept obedient with powerful binding magics in the form of their deceptively beautiful wings and halos. Eudaemons are given a variety of missions, and the term 'Guardian Angel' came from the very few times their existence was revealed in some way while protecting historically significant people on earth or worlds like it. Not getting attached to their Trust or interfering with their lives beyond what is strictly necessary is a principle one.
And that's the basics! Any specific questions? ^^
he very much is ahaha i love him for it <3
oh it'll definitely have to come to light eventually. and the more drama and high emotional stakes the better for us at least lol. i honestly can't even guess how he'd react. with quiet, desperate shock probably lmfao
i think both are really interesting tbh! one is more crime-mystery and the other leans more action-politics vibes, both of which i really like. to me, it seems like they kind of connect to why it's such a big deal that edwin has magic to begin with. if the question they're trying to solve is why does he have powers and what does that mean for the rest of the Plan, then it makes more sense for the focus to be on the mystery, whereas if the question is why does he have the powers of the Chosen One it would make more sense that people are clammoring for him/his ability/his research/all three. i think i'm leaning to the latter just because it seems like a bigger heightening of stakes, but like you i think both are really interesting and i'd have a grand time with either.
ooo that's a nice twist on the trope! i like it! just to clarify, the Archons are the otherworldly beings that make up EDEN?
Here are the boys! I'm just realizing they'd kinda hate each other spectacularly...Well, more fun for me~ It's too bad Edwin isn't known for his patience, he'd have to break up a lot of fights lolDesignated: Twilight Sin: Gluttony Nicknames: Glue, Tails, Pumpkin, Swiper, His Prickliness, Fluffins, Kit
Appearance: Gluttony stands below average height, barely kissing 5'5. His build is suitably svelte to match; slender shoulders, lithe muscles, fine bone structure. A gently pointed heart-shaped face and wide oblique eyes tend to result in his seeming physically nonthreatening. That is, if one ignores his passionless features and wintry gaze. His eyes are sharp only in terms of the way they are expressed- They're actually near almond-shaped, dyed in hues that reflect a mid-winter sky as frigid as his gaze. Gluttony's expressions tend to be simple and minute, difficult to read even when he hasn't been provoked into unwavering intensity. His features can be termed 'cute' in their youthfulness but are otherwise rather plain. Gluttony's awkward smiles often hint at fangs and pointed teeth. His hair is neat and symmetrically cut, a vibrant shade of orange that matches his fluffy fox's tail and ebon-tipped ears. It's generally kept out of his eyes with box-shaped bangs, longer locks framing his jaw and high cheekbones. His skin is pale and liberally scarred, though not in places that aren't easily covered. Gluttony's features are frozen in the youth of a man in his early twenties.
Style: Gluttony is rarely seen in anything outside of the business end of the style spectrum, although he can occasionally be said to wear 'business casual'. He favors dark button-ups or full on suits but always allows for a pop of color in the form of his ties and accessories; tie clips, cuff links, watches, rings, pocket squares- He never considers himself fully dressed unless he has donned the black leather gloves that he is rarely seen without. Gluttony deviates from his 'business man' aura by always wearing athletic boots. His favorite colors are red and orange, and on the occasion of his pants leg riding up, one may glimpse a knife hilt protruding from the left. Outside of the public eye, he dons a heavy crimson cloak lined with a white fur ruff. It is scorched, ragged at the bottom, and marked with bloodstains but is nonetheless his favorite item of clothing. Always pinned to his breast is a golden wing-shaped brooch studded with red spinel.
Character: Gluttony is naturally a rather...dominant personality. Control is a commodity in his life, and one he covets with a quiet sort of pleasure. Therefore it's only natural that he chafes at Wrath's perceived authority over him and his overall lackadaisical nature. He's blunt when it suits him, duplicitous otherwise, and takes a No-Holds-Barred approach to everything. He aspires for perfection but however skewed his idea of it might be, that includes being a 'good' person. Gluttony sees being a Eudaemon as a way of making up for his many failures in the past and becoming the opposite of what he once was- Yet he fails to realize that compassion, loyalty, and mercy will take him further than ruthless strategy and a Whatever-It-Takes mentality. It can be disconcerting when he makes promises to those he cares about because nothing will stop him from honoring them. He can be a bit too focused on appearances, and even more so when it comes to success in anything and everything. He wants to come across as friendly and trustworthy but never seems quite able to manage it. Gluttony refuses to fail, making him significantly more ruthless and unscrupulous than he wants to admit. He actually truly values the few he cares about and will do pretty much anything for them- In fact he crosses into the realm of obsession and can be overprotective. On an everyday basis, however, he tends to act as The Mom Friend- Earnestly attentive to those he cares for but in a sometimes gratingly demanding way. He doesn't actually know how to take care of others or do chores however, so his efforts are a bit all over the place...He's always trying his best, though! While he projects a frigid air, his quiet intensity tends to cross over into his affections as well. Gluttony has no concept of personal space and is surprisingly tactile- prone to random affectionate touches with a completely dead-eyed expression- and the kind of 'friend' who might disturb you with how much attention they pay to the smallest details. Everything from a basic routine to obscure traits and potential weaknesses. Gluttony doesn't actually know what it means to 'relax' or even rest. He doesn't sleep, he works until his body shuts down on him.
Wings & Halo: Gluttony's wings are reminiscent of a crow's in shape. While the undersides are obsidian, the upper sides of his feathers are varying shades of gray and silver with a metallic sheen that give them the appearance of many blades layered over one another. His Sin (or violating the Geis) causes them to deteriorate, the 'blades' becoming rusted and interspersed with dried blood, hampering their movement and making flying painful. Gluttony's halo is golden and shaped like a three-pronged crown. As his wings begin to rust, his halo follows suit, beginning to bleed from within. If left in that state, it will shatter and pierce his skull.
Voice: Surprisingly deep (a baritone) for his height and youthful appearance, with a velvety quality that is pleasant to the ear and unmistakably warm when speaking with those he is fond of. To anyone else it would be cold and monotone. His laughs are higher pitched and bark-like, but are incongruously cute and rather infectious. He speaks slowly and in a low tone, as if his every syllable carries weight. When emotional however, his sentences become so quick as to almost blur together. He speaks with a strange accent- something that sounds both Greek and Russian in origin.
Secret!: He actually loves fashion and wishes he could try out more styles! Tries to answer this desire with his fondness and attentitiveness towards accessories.
Magic: A secret for now! Designated: Dimples Sin: Wrath Nicknames: Lackadaisy, Ceiling Duster, Cloud Botherer, Rumdump, Lush, Lighthouse Human Name: Jia Enlai
Appearance: Wrath towers over most at 6'4, but tries to appear more approachable by wearing loose, flowing clothes that slim down his incredibly well-muscled body. Otherwise it would be quite obvious that he's a warrior- normal shirts strain against his chest and arms, and scars litter much of his pale clear skin. Notably there are none on his back, however, which is a point of pride. He also has a graceful, fluid way of moving that appears to suggest a slighter build and less weight to carry. Wrath's features are almost inhumanly beautiful; his face is round and open- as expressive as it is undecipherable at times- with angled burnt sienna brows, upturned eyes surrounded by thick lashes, a short straight nose, and a lush ever-smiling mouth. His eyes are soft blue-gray under cover, but are truly dual-toned fuchsia and azure, with the majority of his irises being fuchsia while azure intrudes along the outer edges. Wrath's pupils are silver four-pointed stars. A straight scar slashes through his eye and the right side of his face but fails to truly ruin its harmony. Wrath's cinnabar-shaded hair falls like a river of silk, its ripples the slight curl and wave to its texture. When not tied up in its typical high ponytail, it reaches the tops of his thighs. Left-swept bangs frame his face in a profusion of loose curls that just brush his shoulder. He is never seen without a smile- of which he has a dizzying array. Flirtatious, cocksure, teasing, fond- that last one is actually rather rare... Wrath is rarely ever still, speaking with his entire body and often spilling his favored drinks with wild gestures and emphatic waving.
Style: Not quite as luxurious as he likes- or is accustomed to- but all of Wrath's clothing is of obviously good quality. Tailored specifically to both fit and slim his build- he wears items like wide-legged pants and poet shirts in varying colors. He also favors trailing or puffy sleeves, tunics, and long coats. They're always chosen to compliment his hair and eyes. Wrath wears embroidered hanfu slippers or slim, pointed knee-high boots. Other than a number of dangling earrings, accessories can otherwise only be found in his hair; everything from the silk ribbons he ties it with to hairpins, hairsticks, bangles, hair claws, and even the odd circlet. The majority are hanfu in nature. It is no secret- or surprise- that Wrath loves his hair and its styles are ever-changing.
Character: Wrath is optimistic, outgoing, and outspoken. He claims to be a 'wine connoisseur' and often acts the part by lazing around and drinking, but he prefers to venture out to find entertaining company to partake with. He doesn't seem to have any higher goals beyond attending to his latest hedonistic venture, and openly eschews responsibility and the mere notion of holding himself accountable for anything. Life is too long- in his case- to worry about the small things~ Wrath's lighthearted seeming inability to take things seriously can rub others the wrong way, as his optimism can border on insensitive with his insistence on 'appreciating the little things' even in dire situations or tragedies. Though he may not bother to sugarcoat or tailor his words to suit a specific person, he still strives to offer advice, encouragement, and cheer in whatever way he can. Wrath has a Take Charge attitude that occasionally steamrolls over others' opinions because he believes his way is the Best Way. When necessary, he reveals that he isn't as lackadaisical as he seems by accepting responsibility and acting in a more serious manner. He hides it with suprising dedication, but Wrath is actually a rather honorable person. He genuinely cares for others' wellbeing though he may be clumsy in showing it. Wrath is arrogant and surprisingly ruthless when it comes to battle, even a little callous when it concerns the lives of those he doesn't particularly care about. His fondness for violence is just a bit disturbing. Just a bit. Wrath is unapologetically vain and attempts to maintain a 'presentable' appearance despite the fact that he's often found in trees. Or artful disarray as a result of his fondness for wine and debauchery.
Wings & Halo: Wrath has the wings of a crested serpent eagle, but his plumage is a brilliant display of varying reds and oranges that make him more reminiscent of a phoenix. The colors flare and move like living flames but come truly alive when he engages in his Sin (or violates the Geis), becoming uncontrollable flames. If left for too long, his wings are in danger of being burned through, rendering them scorched and skeletal. Wrath's halo is a circle of pale blue flames that blazes out of control along with his wings, but also creates cinders that fall into his face and are capable of blinding him.
Voice: A light tenor, smooth yet energetic. He can layer his words with meaning so that his feelings are clear without seeing his expression just as he can speak with a careless lilt so that his true emotions are hidden underneath a playful tone. His cadence is almost poetic in nature, as if every word he speaks must be beautiful in and of itself. Wrath naturally speaks fast, with a faint lilt and even fainter strains of an eastern asiatic accent. His true laugh is loud and wild, but when he's mindful of it, it is soft and appropriately haughty.
Secret!: He has a book of poems composed for the people who have made an impact on him.
Magic: He will proudly admit to being terrible at it. And I think it's kinda hilarious that you rolled two fashionable gingers. We also got a deal with one being smol and the other a giant lol Wrath is absolutely going to pick up Gluttony and Edwin like kittens at every opportunityNow that you know them a bit better, do you have an idea of who you could see Edwin liking romantically~?
*rubbing hands together evilly* Yes, the better for us...
Ohh, you're right~ They do have two different genre elements! Sounds good! So to sum it up: Edwin is a magic researcher on an earth where magic is believed to be the thing of myth and true magic is hidden from the masses. He's destined to be the Chosen One's mentor and to die saving them, but before they're even born, it's discovered that he has a magic originally meant for them. An incident reveals this to other groups who may have been tipped off to some aspects of the prophecy, and they begin fighting to seize hold of him because even if he doesn't end up being the Chosen One, he still has a rare magic that can be used for their own ends.
Does that sound right? Or am I forgetting anything?
And I was thinking! Maybe on Edwin's earth, magic did exist but died out as humanity changed and starting relying more on technology. Some magical relics still exist, but they're in a dormant state. Edwin's psychometry however, can 'wake' them by 'reminding' them of what they once were, and also allows him to see into the past so he intuitively knows how to use them? And his research is involved because maybe he's on the path to discovering one or a number of them? This would also explain why people are after his research. It would also allow for a li'l questing and mystery-solving as the Eudaemon join him in his search.
What do you think~?
Thanks! And yep, the Archons are the beings that established EDEN. I'm thinking there are four of them and they govern different aspects like Space and Time.
oh they're so fun! edwin is going to need some convincing though lmao especially if they're constantly arguing, which will 100% drive up up the wall. & just looking at it on paper, i think he'd be drawn more to gluttony, actually!
i thunk you got it all, sounds perfect! & i love that idea, it fits perfectly! also makes sense if the Chosen One is destined to bring magic back to earth, which i was lowkey assuming anyway
I'm glad you think so! <3 I apologize in advance...it'd get worse when Gluttony starts getting jealous... Right-o~ Glue it is! I've never really gotten the chance to write him in a relationship before so this'll be interesting~ He's the oblivious type though so please have patience with him xD
Great! I'm glad it fits~ Something along those lines! Maybe the Chosen One is meant to be the protector/master of all the world's magic relics? Do you think Edwin would end up being the Chosen One or would his magic be a fluke, with the Chosen One still appearing later? Maybe with or without their magic? That's not a question we have to answer now though~ We can cross that bridge when we come to it ^^
For now, I think we have just about enough to start! So what's Edwin's day job again? The way Guardian Angel pairs work, is that one makes occasional contact with their Trust while the other remains out of sight. Wrath would insert himself into Edwin's life in some way to keep an eye on him. Do you have any ideas on spots he could fill? Like does Win work for a college or the city?
EDIT: Also added Wrath's human name to his form! It's Jia Enlai, with Jia being his surname.
ahhh, he's going to hate it but tolerate it (eventually he might even find it endearing tbh, depending on how things unfold) and meanwhile i will find it endlessly entertaining, so it's all good. will do! win is more the chronic overthinker type, so that'll be fun hhaha
we can definitely return to it as we go along, but i think it's more likely that he's not the actual Chosen One. i really like the idea of something having gone wrong though, where the actual Chosen One is without an integral magic and the person who needs to die for magic to return (or whatever else the goal is) seems to have it instead. it's very messy, which i love. but like you said, we can think on it for a while longer - maybe something perfect strikes us as we go along.
definitely agree! i think he'd want to pick a place of work where he has access to information that can help him with his actual passion project - i'm thinking an old university probably, or for a large library-organisation. it could also go the complete opposite direction, where he tried that and got so overwhelmed with all the old, well-loved and well-read books and artefacts constantly interrupting him that he transitioned to a small, local government and is in charge of a much smaller archive with much less history. the latter is really intiguing and plausible to me, but the former is more in character for him i think - he's not the type to make things easy for himself.
I think Wrath will help a lot in that regard, honestly- like he knows that this is a terrible idea and he should either leave it alone or more harshly discourage them but he might end up shipping them a little and moving things along lol (also depending on how things unfold) After all he's all about terrible ideas and sticking it to the man~ Pffft glad someone's finding it entertaining~ It's Wrath. He thinks they're hilarious
That will be fun! Gluttony can overthink with the best of them but he's also guilty of underthinking when it counts. He's too instinctive sometimes- which is where his ambush affection comes from
Oh I adore messy~ That's along the lines of my thoughts too! Something goes wrong and suddenly everything is in question as the future lost its guard rails. Yep! We can circle back to it! Right now we have other things to establish~
He's an archivist, right? Hmmm okay...I think in either case Wrath would pose as a researcher who always requests Edwin specifically when he needs help. It's not actually part of his job as a Guardian Angel to be around him so much, but he flaunts the rules and he likes to bother him lol He'd also show up whenever Edwin is in danger, but only after harm has mysteriously been averted. In truth he doesn't need to make an appearance after saving him either, but he likes to make sure he's okay in person and ensure he's not too shaken up.
I think we can start with a relatively average day for Edwin! Maybe he's engaged in magical research because he's close to finding our first object (I'm thinking something small. Maybe the Philosopher's Stone?) Or maybe he's at work, or getting a morning coffee- Or we can start with him in some form of danger that Gluttony saves him from. Either deceptively mundane, like something heavy nearly falling on him- or a covert assassination attempt by someone who knows his future. It's up to you!
Wherever he is, Wrath is sure to appear and engage him. That way we can introduce the protagonists and get a feel for things first. ^^ What do you think?
starting with some mundane but slightly too close near-death-experience sounds good! that can easily combo with a more everyday conversation, maybe edwin recognises wrath from their run-ins at his workplace and offers to buy him a coffee on their way in, assuming (correctly) that they're headed in the same direction. speaking of workplace, i think i've settled on him being an archivist at a smaller but old academic institute that we can give some random name. so not a huge, world known university, but with the history to have a pretty vast collection anyway.
