Hello! I want to start off by prefacing that I already have a clan, it's Windoverclan, the rest is not about normal clan making, but please continue reading.
i. RP QUESTIONS - (Clangen + making clans.) I like Clangen and have messed with it a lot! It's honestly really interesting, it's one of my favorite games next to Cattails! I've seen Clangen RP threads and I'm so into making one, here's the questions below that I have.
• Do you have to be a certain rank to create these? I know this may be a silly question, but the only person I've seen was @/brownie make them, so before I even create one, I'd like to make sure I know if I can first! <3
• Is there a certain layout / posting rule I make it to? I recognize there may not be, since there isn't one for normal rp's, but before I start one, I'd like to know if there is one.
• Do I have a certain limit on how many clans I can create? I know Brownie has two clangens' that I've seen, and I've seen other people make multiple clans too, I'm just wondering if it's possible for me to have two clans at a time.
• Advice - Should/how lenient should I be with making a Clangen rp? What should be the minimal non-interaction time? I was thinking I'll give someone 3-5 days (With no interaction or warning they'll leave) to post their response until someone NPC's or Adopts their cat, and if they don't respond or tell us their situation/explanation in about a week or half afterwards, their characters will be up for claiming. Inspiration from Brownie's Clangen.
• Can I have multiple threads like a Discussion, Claiming (Joining), and Art thread? Like I said since it's a bit different, I'd like do know if I can have some threads on the side without cluttering anything. I haven't seen them in Brownie's clans and I'd like to know if it's allowed.
ii. CSS Profile code This is going to be short and simple, I'm completely unknown about this, I really am unsure on how it works and would love some information.
• What does the CSS Profile Code do? I figured this would be self explanatory, but I've seen people talk about it, and it being the complete opposite of what I thought, now I'm confused.
• How do I use CSS? I'd suppose it'd be different from the normal post BBCode, what kind of code does it use and how do I use it?
• Are there tutorials on using CSS Profile Codes? I haven't found anything, or anything that would help. I'd love it if someone could tell me it here, pm' me or post a link to it! <3
Those are all of my questions! Thank you for reading <3

I’ll reply to this later when I’m on my computer because it’s quite difficult for me to type all of this up from a phone. Anything clangen related, I’d suggest you ask Brownie (sorry for the tag.)

Also on mobile, but I gave some advice to duskflight on a similar thread in clan planning a month or so ago if ya wanna look at my answer there.
Tl;dr: anyone can make a Clangen rp. The reason most people havent is because they take a lot of time and commitment to run compared to other rp formats
I suggest if you want to make one, that you find a format, ruleset, ect that is unique to you. That way, people that dont like the way I run my clangen rps might be interested in the way you run yours. My format is certainly not the only viable way to run one. Its only the first iteration of what a rp could look like.
If you want to see more examples of clangen rp formats, id point you to the clangen discord and the cac clans there. Thats the field where i did my research for what rules, settings, and formats might adapt well to a forum rp from discord rp, since there are quite literally hundreds of rp clans there to reference
Again, there are tons of viable rulesets (both in game and rp wise) and a ton of variation in the control players have on the game (can they vote on patrol outcomes? Do you give them all info every moon or just patrols and let players have creative freedom to make up their own inter character relationships?)
I spent like. Maybe too many hours but more than 5 coming up with what mechanics i wanted in the original yewclan ruleset and what i wanted the rp to feel like to interact with for players. You should def use what worked and didnt from my experience, but again, lots of what works or wont will be up to your blend of mechanics and, most importantly, how mich time and effort you are willing to put into it without burning out.
You dont need any custom css to run a clangen clan. The layouts i use are made entirely in html. I think having a good layout to give your players clear and precise information about the game is also important, but you certainly dont need to give as much information each moon as o do to find success in the format

Also to some of the other questions: there is no limit to how many Clans you can make other than your ability to commit time to running them (tho with the number of people that make clans and abandon them, this isnt even a rule just a... do you want your rp to actually live? Yes? Youre gonna have to put maintence into it) You can make auxillary pages for any clan. Yewclan didnt need then in the beginning but now has a discussion to declutter the main page. I have a joining page separate for plumclan because i expect that clan to have a lot of turnover compared to yewclan, which is closed, and might turn invite only with plumclan as a bit of a proving grounds for activity and understanding of the format (Because, slight sidenote, but having someone join and abandon a clangen rp can feel horrible if a) a cat gets continually juggled around by many players or is claimed and never rpd, giving them no characterization at all. Because the moons march on, lack of characterization can feel more punishing than in a typical rp, where time usually moves slowly. Its also a slight pain point for players to have no one to reply to if the characters their claim is interacting with that moon have no active rper. Or if the character has a very important part in the moon event but has an inactive claimer. This is less of an issue if they are not claimed at all, because at least then other players can step in and npc the cat in their replies. But it is something to be mindful of when making activity rules. Also activity checks are annoying for everyone, but youll probably need to find a frequency of them that works for your ruleset) Uhhhh what else I think i hit all your questions? There arent really rules on how to make a rp, just a lot of things that typically work well and things that dont. Having a layout helps organize but certainly isnt necessary. Sticking to one or two rps to manage is best because you can dedicate time to them. Subpages can help organize a fast moving clan, but would only complicate a slower one by separating conversation threads.

oh now that I'm on pc I see this is in forum help which makes sense there are css bits lmao css is it's own coding language like html. It's often used as a companion tool to html for overarching changes to a page's layout. I didn't have too much trouble using it when I was coding my own webpages from scratch, but I haven't really done anything with it on the forums. a lot of basic css stuff just... doesn't work how I'd expect it to and I haven't really done any deeper digging as to why (kinda just chalked it up to "proboards being weird, as usual" and moved on) Sand def would have better answers for this half of things if you're really curious. ^^ I'd be super curious too, because my experimenting with it has been soooo weird. w3schools is my go-to resource for both html and css. They have great tutorials on what elements do and what parameters function in each element. I've learned plenty of new things by poking around there and seeing what little bits and bobs do. it also has absolute gems like this:

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet which is a language that allows a person to style an HTML document (or a BBCode one in this case since ProBoards is stuck in 2010 and will never advance.) You can use CSS in BBCode, but it has its limits because BBCode is old and it cannot do as much as HTML can. Thankfully, it can do the basics like background color, font color, font family, etc. The technology world moves fast and ProBoards does not when it comes to updating things. I could go on about this for like 30 minutes, so I'll spare you from that. If you want to use CSS, I can try and help you out. Brownie's right though, w3schools is a great option for learning about CSS or HTML. Float is an amazing property and probably my favorite that can work with HTML and BBCode. again, I could go on for a long time about coding, I don't wanna bore anyone.I can find a link for learning BBCode if the source I remember still exists, but I feel that HTML and CSS are better to learn. Just a quick note that if you're gonna use CSS on here, it may prove to be hard at first. imo, that's normal. So, the CSS Profile code can be used to change the maximum width and/or minimum width of the webpage. If you've read the example, the wrapper makes the forums appear much wider than they actually are. If you prefer a wider view of a webpage, you can use the wrapper. I personally don't use the wrapper even though I use CSS daily. Mostly because I can't stand it being wider than 90% or what it's normally set at. The example below is at 60% max-width.
