I know that battle scenes are not exactly the Warriors series' strong point (despite the name), but how did they manage to mess up the final, climactic battle against the Dark Forest that badly?
Think about it. The three barely use their powers, when they should have been very important, there is no real focal point of the battle, Brokenstar and Hawkfrost get killed by the same people they did previously when it would really make sense to write something new, the StarClan cats just... show up after a while (Where were they?), and it's over pretty quickly and easily. I could go on.
Do you remember the point where Brokenstar attacks the nursery in ThunderClan and kills Ferncloud? Why was that not when he died? It would have made much more thematic sense, and it would have made more sense physically, too.
Maybe my favourite (most ridiculous) part is when the Dark Forest has essentially lost but the main villains come knocking at ThunderClan one by one to settle their scores and be dealt with in quick succession. I actually laughed when I read this part.
Anyways, I have my own ideas on what I wish had been written. What are your feelings on the Dark Forest battle? Anything you think it would make it better?

I try not to be too harsh on these scenes because I think Kate said they're what she's most proud of in The Last Hope, but yeah, it wasn't good for an event that's supposed to be the culmination of twelve books and two arcs. It's not necessarily horrible, but it should've been longer, and certain battles and characters should've had more focus/spotlight. The main thing I'd change is the last part of the battle, I'd have Firestar's death, and his last fight with Tigerstar, be from HIS point of view. They clearly had no issue giving him one random chapter in A Light in the Mist, it's beyond me as to why they didn't give him just one final chapter in The Last Hope. It would've been a good way to bookend his story/character arc. Some people STILL think a tree killed him, but if it was written better there wouldn't be that misunderstanding.

I didn't even think about that part! Yeah, having a Firestar chapter for his fight against Tigerstar would have been better. It would probably make for a more poignant death scene too.

I'd include more death and misery, no powers at all, and get rid of the idea of a second death. (seriously?) I also like the idea of letting Firestar have a chapter as stated before.

It's still better than ALITM but yeah I agree that it was anticlimatic. Could've done more with it. More cats should've died, it should've been from Firestar's POV, and it should've been longer. I also think different cats should have killed the big bads. Maybe Lionblaze kills Brokenstar, Ivypool kills Hawkfrost, but yeah, Firestar is the one to kill Tigerstar.

Someone on the forums converted me to this. I think it was Saint Ambrosef? Idk, but someone said Lionblaze should have killed Tigerstar and I have to agree. I love Firestar killing Tigerstar, it’s perfect. I like to think that they killed eachother, which is a great thing because it makes nobody the big “winner” of their fight. It doesn’t paint Firestar with plot armor, which I love. HOWEVER, it would make the most sense for Lionblaze to at least help Firestar kill Tigerstar in someway that would use his powers. Maybe like, start the battle for him and let Firestar finish him off??
But I gotta admit, I’m a TLH defender. I think the battle was well written, just not in a way that concluded the arc (lack of 3s powers, lack of deaths, etc.). What I really like about TLH is how the clans set it up. If I remember correctly, Molepaw and Cherrypaa were like messengers to the other clans. Some cats went to other clans to help there. Some cats stayed guard in the middle of territory. Stuff like that isn’t done much in the series and that was a highlight of the fight for me, seeing the clans work together to have a very organized fight.

That's an interesting one! I do agree that Lionblaze and Tigerstar should have fought, but it's hard to rectify with Firestar still being in the picture. Maybe Firestar could have lost to Tigerstar?
But I have to say, the death I would want to change the most is Brokenstar's. Having Yellowfang just kill him again feels cheap. I would much rather have Ferncloud, Brightheart and Sorreltail do it instead. If two of them were going to die already, why not make it more memorable? Also, it just makes thematic sense for the noted kit-killer to die attacking a nursery.
Another gripe that I have is that there should be one way for spirit cats (StarClan or Dark Forest) to get into the 'real world'. This way, the clans have to put in effort to gain the help of StarClan. Maybe Lionblaze could use his power to maximum here.
I do actually like TLH as a book, and I do think it is better than the Dark Forest battle in ALITM. I just think that there were many missed opportunities that could have made it a better payoff to OotS.

I feel like the DF didn't give off that vibe that they were all that threatening? Stakes should have been raised higher, the Three should have been using their powers more than shown (because why give them powers if Jayfeather's only purpose was to negotiate through one-two dreams? Dovewing gives a few warnings and that's it?) and the DF spirits should have been showing why 6 books worth of training made them dangerous instead of getting easily picked off.
Tigerstar himself should have been more of a threat, enough that multiple cats (preferably his victims, Goldenflower, Firestar, etc.) needed to stop him.

I like this idea too. Normally in media you never get the villain actually get a big win, and this would be an interesting wrap to Firestar’s arc.

I suppose having Tigerstar kill Firestar could be an interesting choice. (And one I might use, who knows) But I see why they didn't do it, it's very bold for a series like Warriors. But come on, I just wanted to see Lionblaze use his powers to maximum extent! I have to wonder why they gave him the ability to win literally every fight if we don't even see it to its extreme.

Kinda minor but I wanted Sorreltail to kill Darkstripe instead of just chasing him off. That little, defenseless kit he tried to kill in the first arc isn’t so little or defenseless anymore.
Edit: fittingly this is my 666th post here! XD
