What if Mothwing is lacking her faith in StarClan, because she is terrified of Hawkfrost and Tigerstar? During The New Prophecy, Tigerstar is shown trying to recruit Bramblestar, Tawnypelt, and Hawkfrost. Mothwing is never shown, but I don't think it would be too far fetched to say he visited her too and tried to get her to join him. Given everything we know about Tigerstar, Mothwing was probably terrified. Perhaps she was even attacked by her father, or brother.
If this happened, it would have scared her so much that she cuts off all ties with the afterlife. She is worried that if she tries to dream with StarClan that they will come to visit her. She is worried that if she gets an omen, it's been faked by the Dark Forest. She just cannot trust her kin anymore, because of what they have done to her. So she cuts off all of her ties to StarClan, hoping it will make Tigerstar and Hawkfrost goes away.
And it works for her, however deep down inside she does believe. And after Hawkfrost and Tigerstar disappear for good, she still can't get herself to reconnect with StarClan. After all these years, she is afraid StarClan will judge her and send her to the Dark Forest. She feels like they are mad at her because of all the lives she lost, and all the problems she caused her Clan because she pushed them away. So she still avoids dreaming at the Moonpool, because she is just too afraid of their rejection. She doesn't want to end up like her kin, so she pretends StarClan still doesn't exist.
If she can't see them, then they aren't there. And if they aren't there they can't bother her.
This is just something I thought about today in the car. I feel like something like this would make more sense than her thinking the Dark Forest battle was just a bunch of rogues. It just doesn't make sense to me how she could seriously doubt StarClan.

That is an interesting theory. It seems plausible.
