The fandom is really split on the Mudclaw or Onestar thing. I decided to go over why I don't think Mudstar would have been better. I collected all the sources and my thoughts in a doc. I wanted to share this so I could hear people's thought about it. There is a possibility I could have missed something, or got mistaken, so also please correct me if I did. docs.google.com/document/d/1sBLa4lU7qAVCsZa0II7Z5o2M6Dtpo-Xgm_xg1j5St58/edit?usp=sharing

I'm pretty sure people are aware that he wouldn't have been "perfect". But considering cats like Leopardstar and Blackstar can have some of the longest reigns in the book as leaders, despite what they've done, I don't really see the problem here. Onestar's actions as leader put the bar so low for WindClan, they actually would have just been better off with Mudstar at that point. Meanwhile, Deadfoot was a better option than both of them. No matter how you cut it, Onestar ended up being the one that became leader, and ended up proving just how badly even a "good" character can turn out so horribly and fumble leadership for 5 arcs.

imo both onestar and mudstar were bad options. tallstar should have picked literally anyone else besides those two, lol.

Neglecting his children to the point of his whole litter getting iced, and even rejecting his surviving kit, and abandoning him and his secret mate. And this was all before the move from the old forest. He pretty much had "cowardly" tendencies from the start, and this was also shown in how he became leader as well (letting Tallstar and Firestar pretty much push him into accepting leadership when he obviously didn't want to several times). Any character can be chill, and even well meaning, but it doesn't mean they're capable of leading a clan. Onestar's case was just especially worse, he didn't even have deputy training.

Which is exactly why I would've loved to see Deadstar (badass leader name), Ashstar (she could've been developed as a character over the course of arc 2,3 and 4) or Gorsestar (if Gorsepaw had lived). Because Onestar sucked as leader and Mudstar would've sucked as well.

I'd have accepted any WindClan cat besides Mudclaw and Onestar.
