Leafstar as protagonist, the destruction of Moonpool and the end of the cats' connection with StarClan, it is the red carpet for the return of Sol, who had promised Hollyleaf to return for revenge in The Forgotten Warrior. Slash returned in Riverstar's Home, Dodge returned in Hawkwing's Journey, Ashfur, Darkstripe, Darktail, Mapleshade, Thistleclaw, and Clawface returned in The Broken Code, Jacques and Susan returned in River of Fire...so why won't Sol return not ? Leafstar is older than him and she's still there. It would be nice if Leafstar faced her biggest mistake, which was exiling Sol, allowing her to meet Midnight, persuading Blackstar to move away from StarClan, and causing a battle between WindClan and ThunderClan. Leafstar is a reflection of Onestar in this: by rejecting Darktail, Onestar indirectly caused problems for SkyClan, and by banishing Sol, Leafstar indirectly caused problems for the other four Clans.

I’m not sure he could cause a lot of trouble at this point due to his age. If he does, he needs a lot of henchmen and henchwomen to be a credible threat.

No, and I hope he never shows up again. Characters like him, and Sleekwhisker, etc, just need to stay gone at this point. Because it makes no sense for the plot nowadays to have repetitive returning villains. If they are going to return, just put them in novellas or Super Editions, otherwise you have the mess that was Darktail in ALitM.

Considering there are cats from TPB and TNP that have long exceeded their lifespans and are still not only alive but front and center, I'm under the impression that the Erins are firmly rooted in "age is just a number". Sol being old wouldn't stop them from inexplicably bringing him back for funsies.
That being said, I really hope not. He's caused his chaos not once but twice, and I'd like to hope by now that the clans are smart enough to not fall for his crap a third time. :/
