Who's side are you on?
In warrior Cats, After Graystripe was taken by Twolegs, Firestar did not appoint a new deputy. After about 5-6 moons, he finally chooses to appoint Brambleclaw as deputy. The thing is though, about 3 moons later, Graystripe comes back, after a long journey. Brambleclaw remains deputy, but some say that Graystripe was the rightful deputy. What do you think?

I feel like they both deserved to be deputy, but I wanted Graystripe to become leader. Also, if Firestar waited half a year to choose one, he obviously believed that Graystripe would come back and be the deputy again, so he appointed Brambleclaw just in case. Then, Graystripe comes back, and I thought Brambleclaw was just acting deputy until he did come back, but I guess Firestar thought that Brambleclaw was going to be the new official deputy. I would've wanted Graystripe to stay deputy either way because the entire ghost Ashfur thing would've been avoided, and that villain was pretty boring and already used for me.

Personally I feel like Graystipe was just as old as Firestar, and was going to retire to the elder den soon anyways

To be honest, as much as I like the idea of Firestar’s deputy being his best friend, I’ve never really seen Graystripe as the deputy type. He’s just not leadership/authority material.

I don't really think Graystripe would've been a good leader or deputy, he was only deputy because whitestorm said so. He doesn't show a lot of good skills to be a deputy

Personally I feel like Graystipe was just as old as Firestar, and was going to retire to the elder den soon anyways He was only around five when he went on his journey with Millie to the territories, so I don’t know if he’d be too old, especially in contrast to whitestorm, tawnyspots, etc.

Graystripe isn’t leader material. He’s too laid back and makes poor decisions. I also think he would have a hard time dealing with Leopardstar, Blackstar, and Onestar.

I'm on the side of neither, there where so many better options.

To add to what others have said, Graystripe also simply didn't want to be leader. I think even if Firestar offered the deputy position back to him, Graystripe likely would have refused so that Brambleclaw would succeed Firestar instead.

Yeah, Honestly I don't think Greystripe would of made a good leader, though he is a great cat!

I'm on the side of neither, there where so many better options. I second this, Graystripe abandoned his first and only apprentice while he was chasing Silverstream. Graystripe is adventurous and playful, and while devoted he’s just too indecisive. Brambleclaw on the other hand is moralistic and more careful, but he also brought personal feelings into his political decisions- like making his own mate deputy who never got along with each other?? I just think their messy relationship and leadership made ThunderClan almost laughable. Firestar should have named Brackenfur deputy and I hate their early friendship is often looked over. Brackenfur, from an apprentice, was always loyal and devoted to his Clan and I think would have made an excellent leader.
