Does anyone feel like A Light in the Mist, book six in The Broken Code is just a better version of The Last Hope (book six of Omen of the Stars)? I just reread some of the final chapters last night (because I felt like it). I think a lot of the scenes were really well written, and Bristlefrost's death was excellently bittersweet, and the immediate aftermath/Rootspring's grief is written excellently. Almost too well, I think. And there are lots of similarities between the two books, but I think some of the execution in ALIM is done much better.

Yeah, the big final death was much better executed. The stakes are much larger because we don’t know if the clan cats fighting with the dark forest will actually stay with them, in contrast to TLH where we pretty much know all of the clan cats being trained will betray the dark forest.

ALITM was way better. I liked how interesting TBC's take on the Dark Forest was in general. It made for an interesting set piece.

Maybe it's because I remember ALITM coming out but the shock factor was MUCH greater there. I feel like we all knew Firestar's time was coming in TLH but absolutely no one expected the ending for ALITM. The Erins actually pulled a fast one on us. I remember being so upset for the rest of the day over the ending 😭

I agree that the death scene was better, but there were other scenes in ALITM that I felt were super corny and fan-servicey, so I don't think it was better than TLH in totality.

It's about the same to me. I do remember feeling empty after reading Bristlefrost's death.

I’d argue that TLH is better quality overall to ALiTM. Moreover TLH was more disappointing due to being hyped as being a grand spectacle for 2 WHOLE arcs, giving expectation of an epic, spectacular conclusion. Which ended being very underwhelming to what was being sold.
And expectations for TLH were substantially higher than that for ALiTM. making it flopping far more notable, and seem worse to ALITM in comparison. of course that’s just humble opinion.

As if. TBC was nothing but fanservice in its final books.

As if. TBC was nothing but fanservice in its final books. It was still odd to me that Darktail showed up...

As if. TBC was nothing but fanservice in its final books. It was still odd to me that Darktail showed up... It made absolutely no sense. Darktail was a Rogue, he didn't believe in StarClan or the Dark Forest

No. It rehashed the same thing we’ve already seen, gave us another awful couple, killed off someone who shouldn’t have died, and ended up being fan service again. TLH, as underwhelming as it may have been compared to TDH, is better than ALITM, considering how prominent and better developed as a character Firestar is compared to Bristlefrost.

Am I the only one that really likes TLH? Yeah, Firestar's death might've not been written well but everything else was pretty hype for me. ALITM doesn't even come close to it for me.
