With each new book in ASC starting with Sky, Sunnyfall has invited other YouTubers to talk about the new main series book with her. In each one, they barely have anything positive to say, even when they say the book is good. The only thing that made me happy was in the new episode for Wind, they took Hawkzz out, because he is always so negative and barely says positive things in his videos. He says that my favorite book, the blazing star, is the worst warrior cats book, but his only evidence is that Star Flower is handled poorly? Him not being able to make the episode was likely an accident, but I’m not complaining.
They spent at least thirty minutes saying how horrible the ending to Thunder is, when they say it’s the best book four in warrior cats since rising Storm.
It’s kind of annoying because they say that they overall like the books, and it’s especially frustrating when Sunnyfall makes videos saying ASC is so good.

Because being negative about the books is the new norm.

Probably because it's the negative things that get people engaged and riled up.

That's just how the sausage is made these days. Nitpicking the books has empirically garnered attention, so fandom has come to a point where doing so is the norm.

On social media and large internet platforms, negativity = engagement. It's also generally part of the current zeitgeist to be detatched or cynical about things. And it creates a bit of a feedback loop. Like, I know Warrior Cats isn't a great literary work but I keep up with it because it's fun and I find enjoyment keeping up with the characters and plotlines. It's like watching horror B movies (Oh hey I tend to like those too) I actually had to stop watching most WC youtubers and keeping up with tumblr blogs since I couldn't put up with all the complaining all the time. Like, I'm in the fandom because I... like the books...... Not that there aren't things to critique, but you know. It's more of a vibes issue

I think long-form, unscripted discussion tends toward criticism. But it would be nice if they intentionally incorporated more of their positive take-aways. Having more of a mix of positive and negative commentary could encourage viewer engagement throughout the whole video runtime, and improve viewer retention across new releases. I know I personally struggle to finish those podcasts when there are really long stretches of just the shortcomings of a book, and little focus on the good elements.
I really enjoyed hearing Sunnyfall’s positive takeaways from ASC so far. I think emphasizing that kind of analysis, amidst the debate and critique, could add a more constructive and encouraging dimension to the group’s podcasts. It may not prompt as much discourse, but it could yield a lot of benefits for viewers, and on the YouTube analytics side of things.
Edit: I was trying to think of practical application strategies, and one that came to mind was having each co-host give their favorite and least favorite aspect of the book, following the quick opening impressions they usually give. That could help start off the discussion by introducing both positive and negative takeaways.

Well because the books are.. bad. Even if you enjoy warriors for the concept everyone generally agrees that the plots are weak and the story is not well written. You can disagree but that is like... the general consensus.
I haven't read the books since uhhhh river of fire. I keep up because I still enjoy hearing about the characters adventures but it's usually so bad I laugh!!!! And I know if I still read the books and did podcasts I would for sure be talking about all the bad parts. It's fun.
Even during oots days when I was a big fan, negativity was a big part of the discussion. I don't get why people watch youtubers they dislike the content from

I mean, I don't like watching big WC Youtubers who do reviews of the books and such as not to sway my opinions (wether good or bad). Now I did watch very few of their opinion videos and I didn't necessarily agree with them. I quite like what they're doing in ASC and I hope the payoff is equially good. When reading, I want to form my own opinions and thoughts on the book.

You can like the books, but they are not quality.

I don't understand what the problem is. People took issue with people being negative about the books on here too and so what? This isn't an attack against you so sorry if it comes off that way, I just don't get why people take issue with people being negative about something, it's not like everyone is going to think/feel the same way about stuff. I personally thought SkyClan's Destiny was the best SE and I really liked the fact that it had two povs, I also only liked Crookedstar's Promise for Beetlenose, and I didn't think Foxheart was that bad at all, and I don't get the hate for her, however, other people disagree, and they have their own reasons for that, and it's not an issue, we're 5 dimensional beings and some of us view things differently

Its only strange because they say often that ASC is good.

It's legitimate criticism. Lots of people think that ASC isn't really that great - or that the books are genuinely not as good as they used to be. It's a popular take and it's very common. Call it negativity, but it's legitimate criticism and has a basis behind it.

Because negativity = engagement and gets people riled up, even if it's just incessant negativity under the veil of "criticism", and engagement will happen when the majority of readers will like said arc or book (in this instance, ASC). There's a difference being giving actual constructive critiques about a work while presenting reasonable evidence to back it up, and then just bashing them for menial reasons. The books have never been the peak of literature, far from it, but yeah, the constant complaining and bad faith gets exhausting.
Best thing to do is just acknowledge that everyone is allowed to have an opinion on the books and move on. It's in the nature of a fandom with a decent following. Especially online.

I don't really watch Sunny, but as some who doesn't like seeing an overabundance of negativity towards something I like, I also kinda agree with some of the other people here. It's her opinion, and it'd be one thing if she were saying things about the books that weren't true or something like that, but they aren't exactly top quality either.
And as for the supposed inconsistency (and I could very well be missing something here; like I said, I don't watch Sunny), I don't really see how one necessarily negates the other. You can like something while still being critical of it, and this includes saying things like Thunder is the best fourth book since RS; based on the wording, it seems like they're just saying it's a good book by book four standards specifically. Also, maybe she uses the podcast to get any negativity out of the way since it's a longer format, so her regular videos can focus on whatever positives she may have as a way to sort of balance things out.

This is a really good point! While I do think it could be cool from a technical standpoint if the hosts included more of their positive criticism in podcasts, Sunnyfall has a neat balance already when you look at her channel as a whole. And it’s totally true that creators can do whatever they want. They know best their own creative/critical process, what they’re interested in talking about, and what works well for them!
