Imo: Thistleclaw was a better villain in life compared to his Dark Forest counterpart. Not to mention the missed potential to be an interesting villain as a whole.
How many villains do we have that did evil deeds for power? Compare that to the number of villains that did villainous deeds out of other reasons. Thistleclaw in Bluestar's Prophecy appeared to be loyal to ThunderClan and the text didn't give any indication that he was visiting the Dark Forest. Had that been Thistleclaw's only appearance he would've been the few villains that did the stuff he did out of love or loyalty or whatever.
In the Omen of the Stars Thistleclaw is just another Dark Forest goon that wants to eradicate the clans from the lake territories. Yeah thats pretty much all he has going for him. At least in canon and his life Thistleclaw was somewhat unique. But now hes just a filler cat like Rushtooth and Houndleap.

Darkstripe was the only one better in death to me. Oh, really? (I respect your opinion completely, I’m just surprised) Hawkfrost & Ashfur accomplished quite little in their lives, if you don’t mind sharing I’m curious why you think they were better in life?
