It's almost 3am and I'm still in tears.
I'll be honest with you, when I first started DotC, I was really interested, but half way through I raged quit. Especially after Petal's death. But then I said to myself, if I don't finish it, I'll regret it. Clear Sky's character has been such a turn off, and Star Flower as well, even more with them as a couple. But I decided to finish it. And the thing is...characters can change. I thought I'd be the last person to say this, but I forgive Clear Sky. I finally understand what people meant by saying he's an interesting character, with amazing development, and it really showed through in the final book. He's come so far, not just him but also Jagged Peak and Gray Wing.
I still don't ship Clear and Star, but I do think they're okay, so I acknowledge them, but I still prefer Clear and Petal. And I also still ship Gray and Fern, but I think he and Slate are good too. And Thunder with Violet Dawn, it's not as rushed as people make it out to be, so yeah I ship it. I'm interested to see more with those two, so I will be reading Moth Flight's Vision next.
Slash, imo is just some abusive jerk, that's half baked compared to One Eye, but he's cowardly and undermining, basically Darkstripe if he were ever a real villain. I think it's gross that he attacked queens, abused them, and was willing to catnap kits. The cats that continued to follow him in the end, are no better, and I hope they all get hit by monsters one day, or worse.
Tall Shadow was an interesting character, she's grown into a fine leader, Wind Runner, although hot headed, is also a great leader, she'll be fine as long as she has Gorse Fur. River Ripple is still my favorite original leader, he's so wise and kind, his guidance was very helpful in the darkest of times. Thunder has grown to be a fine leader, and I'm so proud of him being ThunderClan's first leader, and Lightning Tail makes a great "deputy". And Clear Sky, when he jumped to save Black Ear, risking his life for his kin like that, then the scene he had with Thunder after, it broke my heart. I've been in Thunder's position, and seeing the reconciling like that, I started to cry.
And the tears kept coming once we got to Gray Wing. I was upset, he was finally having a family of his own, one with Slate, but it was nice to see him be with the ones he loved until the very end. I'm happy that he was the one that named the clans, he and his kits, he was a wise cat, a great cat. And the way he went, couldn't have been written more beautifully. He was my favorite character in this series, and I'm happy that in the end he was also happy.
This series has been an emotional roller coaster, and that's probably my lack of sleep talking, well it's not the best series imo, but definitely a good read. I'd like to know your thoughts as well.
