I seriously respect Puddleshine. I mean, he probably did not want to be a medicine cat in the first place, but he proved quite capable with minimal training. He even managed to cure most of the clan from yellowcough. That's pretty impressive.
I also understand why he joined Darktail. He had to stay with most of his clanmates in case the sickness was still around. Especially since they did not have any other medicine cat. In addition to that, WindClan would probably not lend them their herbs.
