So we know that people have been able to get their hands on the books two or three weeks early, especially in some states (NV comes to mind, they had Shadow in stock three weeks before it came out, Thunder too). it's been like this since DOTC. Out of curiosity, I called my local B&N and was told that even if they got it early, they wouldn't be able to sell it until its release date, April 2nd. This is new to me, because unlike other books (this happened when I was trying to get Counting the Cost, and they told me it was a Strict on Sale date because of its popularity), which, I get that, because it became a New York Time Bestseller. Warriors suddenly becoming a strict on sale date is completely new to me. This also happens at the same time that B&N no longer has the "check for availbility" in your area option on the product pages.
What are everyone's thought about this?

I wouldn’t be surprised if HarperCollins started cracking down on it since someone getting an early release and posting spoilers online almost certainly impacts sales. If someone reads it online and then decides not to buy it because they didn’t enjoy it or see no point since an abridged version now exists and can be easily accessed. Threads on here, for example, can easily achieve 50,000 views in a week.
I can only speak my my country, which isn’t the US, but my sister used to work at one of the major book retailers here and they were allowed to put out yet-to-be released books if they had the floor space and could make a profit. I’d assume it’s the same across different countries though.
