I personally think Crookedstar has the most trauma and worst backstory, but tell me your opinions.
Reasons I think he had it worst. -terrible injury -rejected by mother -clan didn't even look at him -felt he had to run away -parents "divorced" -apprenticed late -ded father -ded mother -ded mate -ded kits -ded clanmates -only daughter ded early and had forbidden relationship -brother had forbidden relationship -brother ded early -life sux 4 him

I think Brambleclaw has a lot of trauma. His dad was exiled not long after he was born, so he grew up being judged because of someone he didn’t even know. His dad starts hunting down his Clanmates so he can kill them. He almost died in a fire as a kit. He gets a little older, and watches one of his Clanmates get taken away by a hawk. Dangerous dogs start terrorizing his Clan, killing Swiftpaw and maiming Brightheart. His mentor secretly dislikes him and judges him constantly. His dad kills Brindleface to feed the dogs. Then Bluestar dies. Then Tawnypelt just runs away without telling anyone, leaving him alone. His dad is brutally murdered right in front of him and dies nine times. Then he’s forced to fight against BloodClan. Finally, seems like there’s some peace and quiet. Nope, Twolegs have come to destroy the forest. StarClan expects him to go on a dangerous, unknown journey while his Clanmates are dying and getting captured back home. He has no idea where he’s going or what he’s doing. Gets stuck in the mountain terrorized by a mountain lion, which causes one of his friends he made along the way to die. Finally makes it back home, and he’s got to lead everyone to this new home he found. They settle into their new home, and badgers attack, killing some of his Clanmates. All the while, he’s being visited by his dead dad and evil brother which leads him to eventually having to murder his brother himself in a very gruesome way. His mom dies. Things are finally shaping up though. He’s got a wife and three kids. Wrong. Another fire burns down his home and he finds out his wife lied to him the entire time, and his kids aren’t his at all. The cat he thought was his daughter runs away and “dies.” His dead dad and evil brother come back AGAIN to terrorize the Clans, which really does kill Hollyleaf, Firestar, and a ton of his Clanmates. Now he’s the leader, but another bad storm happens, causing all kinds of trouble and chaos.
I can’t comment on anything that happens to him after that because I can’t remember or I haven’t read. But I feel like that’s a lot to happen to someone.

Bramblestar, Squirrelflight (this is mainly because I believe her actions in ASC are a trauma response), Crookedstar, Frostpaw, and Shadowsight.
Also maybe Leafstar since during Hawkwing's Journey, she went through quite a lot of loss in a short amount of time. Not sure about that one though.

I think this is a hard thing to measure. The characters listed are definitely top contenders. I'd also put forward Yellowfang.

All the ones already mentioned, but also, Brackenfur had a lot of trauma for a side character.

Out of all the Clans, Skyclan, Windclan, and Shadowclan seem like they suffer the most. Skyclan unfortunately gets Clear Sky, taken over first, then later their territory gets taken and the clans just force them to leave. Then they find a new place to live only to be conquered by highly intelligent rats, brought back by Firestar only to have Sol show up, then Darktail show up, and then they wander around suffering and starving for a while before they find the clans. When the finally find the clans, the 4 clans absolutely hate them and one tries to poison them and drive them out. That sucks pretty hard, but the other clans have suffered in different ways.
Windclan seems to consistently be the clan that is conquered the most. Our introduction to them is the clan getting driven out by Brokenstar (who barely had the numbers to fight anyone even with child soldiers), then later Tigerclan makes an example out of them, when they arrive at the lake they immediately have a civil war, then they ally with another clan and still cant beat Thunderclan and finally they are the closest to being beaten by the Dark Forest.
Shadowclan is the clan that consistently has bad leadership that leads them to ruin, which sucks because Tall Shadow was an amazing leader. First Shadowclan is the clan that literally breaks the full moon truce and attacks a Gathering, which is such a terrible idea. Then we get Raggedstar, who had a secret affair with a med cat and put Brokentail in power. Brokenstar leads child soldiers into battle, drives out Windclan, and then gets driven out himself. He gets replaced with Nightstar, who was rejected by Starclan and was too old and weak to be a leader. That leads to Tigerstar, who unites with Riverclan, brings dogs to the forest, allies with Bloodclan, and is killed in a one swipe betrayal. After plunging Shadowclan and the forest into complete chaos they get Blackstar. Blackstar ebbs and flows, but he does lead his clan to give up on Starclan for a little bit. After that period of stability, they get Rowanstar. He lets apprentices get way out of control, does not establish himself as leader, loses his own clan to Darktail, and does nothing but sit in Thunderclan and ask for them to do something. Eventually we get Tigerstar 2. Tigerstar 2 has been alright so far but is currently causing chaos.
So, I would argue that Shadowclan has seen the most war and violent trauma, but Skyclan has it the worst overall.

i agree with all of these. if i had to put another cat, id probably say Brightheart, maybe not as super traumatic as some of these characters but to get ruthlessly attacked by a dog and your eye is gone and your leader renames you to a cruel name? that's gotta be traumatic

I'd also add Bluestar, even if other characters suffered more trauma than her.

She definitely doesn’t have the most trauma, but I figured this was an appropriate thread to bring up Icewing. Spoilers because I expect this will be long and it contains spoilers for Oots-ASC For starters I think having a permanent-dead loved one is especially traumatic due to the unexpectedness and fact that the cats live their lives always assuming that they will be able to see their loved ones even in death. Perma-death essentially turns that whole expectation upside down in a horrible way, having to cope with a rarely shared and unanticipated realization that their loved one is just completely gone, erased from existence. Personally I think that’s one of the worst things a cat in this series can go through, and there is no worse grief than that of a parent for their child, so… Icewing watches her son be brutally killed in the Dark Forest. Newly established DF lore confirms that anyone who dies in the DF is gone forever, and Icewing in TBC basically confirms Beetlewhisker is gone forever. Cats know that now, but Icewing likely had to realize that on her own, with such fact likely being largely unknown to the living. Given that she knows her son is gone for good in TBC, we have some options for how she came to realize this: a loved one from StarClan told her while she still held out hope, she came to the conclusion on her own from not seeing her son in the DF after, coupled with a StarClan cat confirming her son hadn’t been seen in StarClan, or the worst one: a DF cat tells her themself. So her son is gone completely, and as horrible as that is, she later has to fight, or at least pretend to ally with, on the side of her son’s murderer to protect herself, not wanting to end up with his fate. After the battle she’ll have to live with the guilt for the rest of her life that she couldn’t stop her son from being killed, coupled with the possible idea that she either influenced him to join her in the DF or her being there made him more hesitant to leave. And to top it off, Beetlewhisker died for nothing. He was unceremoniously slaughtered in cold blood with essentially nothing being accomplished from his death. At least Ivypool knows her daughter died protecting the cats she loved, for a purpose, for something her daughter believed in. Icewing doesn’t have that privilege. With this most important point out of the way: Her entire first litter has died in her lifetime. Pricklekit dies as a kitten. Grasspelt drowns, of all things. Especially bad since they’re RiverClan and would have been trained, but training couldn’t prepare him and Pebblefoot from a flash flood. Petalfur is killed by the Kin. Especially horrible is that right after her daughter’s death Icewing is taken prisoner (with her mate, Petalfur’s father, by the way) and tortured and starved. She and Mintfur barely have time to grieve before being brutalized by their daughter’s murderers. Her mate Mintfur’s fate is unknown, but it’s likely he died between books. I wonder if Icewing ever told her mate and kits about what happened to Beetlewhisker, or if they’ll be in for a surprise when they discover he isn’t in StarClan. I wonder how they’ll react towards Icewing. Yeah. Then she’s wrongly exiled along with Harelight after fighting against the imposter, and now separated from her two remaining kits from her second litter. She’s notably angry with Mistystar and RiverClan as a whole, but eventually comes back. It’s also likely that Bristlefrost’s permadeath opened some old wounds for her, especially since Bristlefrost was the daughter of Ivypool, a cat who was also a DF trainee. She is then thrust into a leadership position by Tigerstar. She accepts, but most of her Clan openly resents her now, and the ShadowClan warriors in camp aren’t making things easy. She tries to regulate tensions among her Clanmates, but they just don’t respect her authority, accusing her of being loyal to Tigerstar. She’s seeing the Clan fall apart while grappling with monitored leadership, aggressive Clanmates, and the death of Mistystar, which undoubtably gave her complicated feelings after her exile. Duskfur, who was the most open about her disdain for Icewing, then becomes temporary leader. Now Splashtail is leader. We don’t know how Icewing and the Clan first reacted, or the exact circumstances, but I suppose we’ll see. She also had to grapple with the apparent loss of Frostpaw, her great-granddaughter (Petalfur’s son’s kit) that she was close to and helped. She might have felt guilt for encouraging Frostpaw to change her position, because even though it was right for Frostpaw, for all she knows, Frostpaw might have been alright if she hadn’t. Now Frostpaw comes back alive, accusing her new leader of murder and attempted murder on her. This will obviously be difficult on her. Who knows what’s to come next for her, (spoilers for Star blurb) especially when Harelight, the cat she was exiled with, is killed by Splashtail? Well that was pretty long. I know she hasn’t had it the worst out of everyone in life but I think a lot of it adds up. I didn’t even think I cared much about Icewing but I just wrote a whole essay on her haha.

By Arc of Birth/First Appearance: TPB- Brambleclaw. Grew up without a birth dad, adopted by a dad who used to judge him. Watched his birth dad rise to be a dictator, and send dogs that killed his half-brother. Dealt with judgement and discrimination as a teenager so bad that he watched his sister leave since it was too much. Watched his father start a coalition with RiverClan and nearly kill his RiverClan peers who were almost raised as his siblings. When his father was finally confronted, he was horiffically killed before Bramblepaw's eyes. Bramblepaw then watched his deputy die in a horrible battle and avenged him with said apprentice friends. Earned his warrior name, and was chosen to go on a quest with his sister, some apprentices, and his RiverClan friends. Watched Feathertail die and Tawnypelt nearly die. Came back to his home destroyed. Watch his half-brother, one of the only cats who understood him, manipulate a coup and train with Tigerstar. Brambleclaw did the same but realized how horrid it was. Had to kill his brother to protect his adopted father. Raised a family he didn't know was his biologically, and fell out with his mate since she didn't tell him (she believes he wouldn't love the kits even though he out of all cats knows that blood isn't everything for family). Fell out with his mate, SIL, and kids. Learned of his father and brother's ghosts planning to kill the Clans. Watched his birth father and adoptive father kill eachother. Had his adopted daughter killed by his half brother, who Brambleclaw killed. Became leader and was overwhelmed by the shadow of both of his fathers. Struggled to help his Clan when a dangerous flood killed an apprentice. Had to maintain the SkyClan secret while knowing that they were suffering thanks to his son. Had his camp be a refugee camp for three other Clans while watching his peer Onestar make the most idiotic decisions. Got possessed by his wife's yandere incel ex. Was trapped in hell, where a lot of his trauma stemmed from. Had many lives ripped away. Watched the ghosts of his Clanmates that were killed by Ashfur get posessed and controlled. Dealt with political unrest upon his return. No wonder he retired. TNP- Leafpool. Spent her early childhood going hungry since ThunderClan was being terrorized by BloodClan. Saw her sister disappear, and had to use her powers to keep six cats alive while not knowing their whereabouts. While this was happening, watched her home get destroyed, and countless Clanmates die. Got captured by twolegs, and saw her deputy and dad's friend get captured rescuing her and the others, being assumed dead. Had to help keep four Clans alive during the Great Journey. Almost died during WindClan's Civil War. Learned of her sister's boyfriend and his brother training in hell. Left with her new boyfriend to escape the pressures of Clan life after being pressured to by StarClan. Came back to her Clan being horridly mauled by badgers. Watched her mentor, and friend's brother die. Became sole medicine cat while hiding her pregnancy. Gave birth far from home and had to give away her kits to her sister. Had to constantly repress any and all emotions since one of her children was able to read minds and enter dreams. Was almost killed by her daughter after the truth came out, and grieved for her when she was presumed dead. Was hated by her kits and got demoted for breaking the law. Knew the truth about her daughter murdering a cat. Daughter returns from her exile, and makes up with Leafpool before dying for real shortly after. Watches her ex's other kid disrespect her death and try to kill his half-siblings. Her position was reinstated after the Great Battle but she lost her best friend and father. Years later, her mother died while far away. Then she had to train a ShadowClan kit in a very limited timeframe when her coworker died, and while doing this, saw how dysfunctional Rowanstar's leadership was. Also helped out in SkyClan while political turmoil was happening. Watched the Clans be idiots to a foreign group, and was nearly killed while protecting a queen and newborn kits (aka the warrior code). Was almost rejected from StarClan for the one scandal they encouraged. Ended up staying in StarClan. Lost contact with the living shortly after, when she saw Ashfur betray everyone. POT- Flametail (since a lot of people said/will say Ivypool). Wanted to be a medicine cat apprentice but was denied doing so when his leader went atheist after a master manipulator took control of the Clan. Stayed with cats he thought were his kin before the truth came out. Healed his Clan through drought, and nearly lost his mentor. Got signs from StarClan telling him that the Clans must be completely isolated. Drowned when he was having fun for once, and was nearly saved if not for an ancient spirit intervening. Was nearly killed as a spirit by Ivypool. Watched from a segregated StarClan as his sister accused his coworker of murder. Believed it. Was visited by that cat, and learned that he actually was trying to save him. Kearns that his sister if full of crap. Had to make the medicine cats believe that the coworker was innocent before finally earning peace. OotS- Lilyheart. Lost her mother as a small kit. Lost her sister as an apprentice. Watched the kit she adopted struggle with separation from her birth sister. Adopted daughter joins her birth Clan, but does return. Mate dies from a freak accident. Grandson is stillborn, and her son dies basically at the same time. Watched her Clan fall into shambles, and many friends and loved ones get viciously killed, while having to be strong and there for her apprentice/grandson. DotC- Pebble Heart (unpopular choice!) As a kit, kidnapped by abusive dad. Mom dies trying to rescue him. Is rescued by adopted dad and his friends. Predicts the First Battle and many other horrible things as a kit. Abusive dad comes back to live with an evil cult leader. Birth dad dies. Moves away from his littermates and continues to have visions. Adopted dad dies. Only learns of the purpose of his visions as an adult. AVoS- Violetshine. Mother died as a newborn. Gets separated from her sister. Raised in an unstable Clan full of cats who don't care for her. Is severely neglected. The one Clanmate who does is reckless and emotionally underdeveloped. Follows her friend into a cult, but returns. Clan is taken over by said cult. Cult leader takes a liking to her, and she has to appease him while disagreeing with basically everything. Helps cats escape via an underground railroad, risking her life. Watches her friend get frowned by cult leader. Moves to her birth Clan. Learns of her family trauma on a quest to save displaced relatives. Has to find a role for her boyfriend in the Clan so he can stay since he is a very important cat. Watches her new Clan get poisoned by her old one. Is separated from her sister again when SkyClan leaves to the gorge, but the Clan does return to the lake. Has kids. One of her kids is the only source of contact with the spirit of a possessed leader. Kid is put into multiple near-deadly experiences. Joins her kid in hell to defeat an evil spirit. Watches as her son permanently loses his mate. TBC- Frostpaw. Born into the Clans when the Imposter is at full power. Loses her dad as a kid. Mom convinces Clan to make her a doctor in the wake of another doctor's death. Fails to save her leader. Takes on leader responsibility as a preteen. Is the only source of StarClan connection since the other doctor is an atheist. Mom is killed by dogs. has to hide her Clan's succession crisis. Clan is annexed by ShadowClan. Learns she has no proper connection to StarClan. Switches roles. Is nearly killed by her crush. Gets neutered. Guided to a strange land by her Clan's founder, where upon meditating, she learns of her mom's and crush's crimes. Is told her mom went to hell. Returns to her Clan where she learns that her former crush took on full power, and that her uncle may be in on it. Is denied return to her Clan. Is taken in by ShadowClan. ASC- Birchpaw Born into political unrest. Formative moons are watching his Clan annex RiverClan, and Berryheart wreaking havoc. Brother dies as a young child to greencough since there were no herbs available and RiverClan denied their stock. Became an apprentice right when RiverClan's problem is now everyone's.

Whenever I think of trauma in warriors I immediately think of Bluestar and Yellowfang. Crookedstar is also a good candidate for most trauma.
