it's gonna make your face sore for a while, that's just a right of passage for brass players. Don't overdo it, give yourself time to rest, but it's normal to be uncomfortable for a little.
your lips WILL be numb. All the time. you get used to it.
It takes a lot more air than you think. learn to breathe right EARLY, you will suffer if you have to relearn for harder/longer phrases. Honestly, try and take even the basics to heart and do things right, even if it feels easy. This is a good lesson for everything, but especially good when starting a new instrument
get cleaner for mouthpiece and a spit rag. Clean after every use, or when you get home if you don't have time in class/practice. It will get gross quick, then stinky, then you'll have to pay to have it cleaned. prevent this by taking 3 mins to properly clean it after using it
Uh, don't focus on anything fancy at first. Start with being able to control your notes (you only have three buttons, so it's all in the face/mouth) go from low C to G to mid C. go from low C to mid C without hitting G. Things like that. Focus on a clear, rich tone without wobbling--giving it warmth and flavor comes later
