Just like the title says I want to know everyone's opinions on Onestar and why you have those opinions. I'm on the side of like. I feel like he's actually a pretty complex character. The leadership role was definitely thrust onto him. Kinda like Owlnose except he wasn't able to back out. So to cover up his insecurities and indecisiveness he became loud and rude trying to prove his worth. Surprisingly there does seem to be a reason for his rude and troublemaking tendencies other than "The Erin's wanted a villain". To me liking a cat as a character and liking a cat as a "person" (Cat) as in ethically are two different things for me. Onestar is one of those examples. He's obviously done bad things I won't excuse that but as a character who was written to be bad, I like it. That's how a lot of people feel towards Tigerstar I. Bad cat, good character.

Insecure and neurotic. At least Mudclaw would have made things interesting in a good way.

I enjoy his role in the series and the complexity of his character alot. Actions aside, I think he was very consistent in his role as conflict for Thunderclan, and I think his flaws and the pressures against him really made him self-destruct. Which, in this case, I liked that about his character.

I dislike him a lot during the story, but I do think he’s a realistic and interesting character. He wants to be a good person, but his motives are so selfish and hypocritical at their core, or twisted up in politics. It feels like his motto is, “I never asked for this, so my selfish decisions are justified.”
When he’s suddenly given authority over WindClan, he knows his Clanmates question the legitimacy of his leadership. He wants to prove he speaks for their interests. Many WindClan cats feel like ThunderClan is controlling, infantilizing, and pushing them around. So, rather than talking sensibly to Firestar about establishing (metaphorical) boundaries between their Clans, he rages at his former friend and rushes into conflicts and all-out battles.
This is all likely driven by Onestar’s needs to unify his war-torn Clan, properly represent his Clanmates, and earn respect from the other Clans. But I think there’s a lot of personal pride, and bitterness towards ThunderClan’s involvement in his unsolicited rise to power, wrapped up in his political decisions.
Either way, we see exactly how ruled Onestar is by his own self-interest in the Darktail saga. He says he can’t accept Smoke or Darkkit into WindClan because it wouldn’t be safe for them, but truly, he doesn’t want judgement from his Clanmates or to jeopardize his relationship with Whitetail. He allows ShadowClan to be nearly wiped out by illness over Furzepelt’s death, when he knows he’s the one who fueled Darktail’s murderous hate. And he lets many, many cats die for nothing during and after the first raid against the Kin because he fears personal judgement from StarClan. He refuses to take responsibility for his own mistakes, and other cats always suffer as a result.
Onestar is a super frustrating character, and his disloyalty to Firestar and hypocrisy aggravated me so much as a kid. But as I look back, he’s honestly painfully human in the way he passes the blame. I guess it’s a pretty well-written character who can make me stop and think about how I might sometimes rationalize my own selfish decisions, and really consider how they impact others.

Dislike. His character was pretty good, but I was too constantly annoyed with him to appreciate that.

Onestar gets a one star review from me. And even that is too generous.
He just sucks. He's a bad friend, a coward, a hypocrite (in a not fun way unlike Tigerstar I) and ultimately gets a slap on the paw for everything he did from StarClan and the Clans, if not even that.
That being said, he's pretty well-written aside from getting away with his bs after dying.

He's definitely not as fun as Tigerstar though I feel like that has more to do with the Erin's not fully committing to him being a villain, than anything else. Also to be fair so many cats have gotten away with awful stuff at this point it's hard to track. I'm also surprised with how many people acknowledge that he's a well-written character.
