My favorite arc is AVOS and it's kinda sad seeing mostly negative comments about it, so why not make a thread to just appreciate it. (I know it has its flaws, but regardless I just love it.)
Some of my favorite things about the whole arc are the characters in spotlight. I think they're all unique and I just really enjoy reading about them and their relationship. I liked everything even after Shattered Sky, I just think it was all so interesting in general. I especially loved the writing. They finally made the travelings intriguing and fun. Keeping things short, and still telling us a lot about what's happening

While books 4-6 aren't the greatest they are at least tolerable. I don't get why it's so many people's most hated arc.

Because those books are so boring I don't even remember what happened in them, except Twigbranch switching Clans all the time. TRS is also criminally bad for being a last book in the arc. It should be this climatic ending to a long series, something you have been waiting for for years, but not only did the previous books set it up so badly, it was also just one of the most boring books in the series. I feel the same about POS, but atleast that book had Gray Wing dying which was a very impactful ending.

I enjoyed AVOS with the exception of The Raging Storm which was just an out of character disaster. Pretty much everyone was out of character in that book. One of my favorite anti-heroes Juniperclaw was introduced that arc and I loved the interactions between Alderheart and Jayfeather. I couldn't stand Needletail and Violetshine's blind eyed devotion to the sister who pretty much abandoned her for a murderous cult and despite her sacrifice I still don't think had Rain not been killed she would have left the kin. Twigbranch I found irritating and I did not really care for the SkyClan coming to the lake part. They were fine at the gorge they didn't need to come to the lake. AVOS was a fine arc with the exception of the Raging Storm had The Raging Storm been decent AVOS would be one of my favorite arcs but alas that wasn't the case.

I actually liked the arc despite its flaws, including the second half, save for TRS.

I really liked all the characters! I love all three protags, with Twigbranch being my fav! This arc also gave me Needletail, who very quickly became one of my top favorites.

Because those books are so boring I don't even remember what happened in them, except Twigbranch switching Clans all the time. What's funny is that Twigbranch only switched Clans twice, the same amount of times as Graystripe (his exile aside). I remember saying this before, but I think the confusion might come from her leaving camp so much since she'd been a kit (to the point where she even lampshades this in TRS), it just seems like it was way more than what it actually had been, coupled with the fact that much of her arc revolved around her wanting to find her family, biological or otherwise.

That's probably it, like I said, I barely remember what happened in those books. I am doing a full Warriors reread though, so I will be refreshed on AVoS specifically (I need it).

Although I wish they would've done more with them, I liked Alderheart, Twigbranch and Violetshine and was able to really relate to them. The other new characters, like Needletail, Darktail and Tree, were nice too. I also liked that although older characters were used, I never felt like they took away the spotlight from the new guys.
Also, the first 3 books were great.

AVoS is my least favorite arc but I still very much enjoyed the first half, especially the third book. Darktail was an excellent villain when it came to his utter cruelty and he also did a great job of bringing conflict to the Clans because of his vengeful nature against his father Onestar.
That being said in terms of praise though, while I love SkyClan and them being brought back to rejoin the other four Clan in that same book, killing off the main villain mid arc just ruined things for me and Darktail's replacements were tryhard wannabes: glorified henchwoman Sleekwhisker and annoying Tigerstar II. I suppose Nettle and Juniperclaw were interesting as antagonists in the latter half but lacked previous pagetime overall.
Stan Violetshine, love Alderheart and like Twigbranch though. They were good protagonists.

I personally think AVOS is LEAGUES above OOTS, my least favorite arc. This may be helped by the fact that I like all the characters and don't find them as boring as many people do. I honestly like the back half. I like Twigbranch's dilema about where she belongs and chosing her found family, even though it's hard. I like how Violetshine is finally able to find a community who loves her, learning to open up to others, her relationship with Tree and just Tree in general, her guilt over Needletail and how she learned to respect Twigbranch's wishes. I just like Alderheart in general and his relation with pretty much everyone because he's just a nice guy. He gives a view into slice of life style ThunderClan and I like that a medicine cat has a chance to just be a normal medicine cat without having some super important, Clan-ending conflict going on. I like the ShadowClan leadership struggle and assimilation into SkyClan and the little journey to find the missing SkyClan cats, too. There's lots of personalization for background cats like Scorchfur, Yarrowleaf, Sandynose, Molewhisker, etc. and for new characters like Needletail, Finleap, Tree and Sparkpelt. I like the lower stakes and I feel that it does the separate, smaller plots better than OOTS, which was just full of pretty boring filler leading up to a somewhat disappointing climax. I understand the AVOS hate, but I mostly had a blast reading it (other than Needletail's treatment of Violetpaw, Sparkpelt's of Twigpaw, Twigbranch's (more understandable than the rest but still not great) of F;ypaw, the last-minute Finleap drama, and Onestar in general, but other than that, I really like it.

While I cannot stand the last 3 books in AVOS, one good thing I can say about it was how well they handled Leafpool, Alderheart was a pretty down to earth character that I never found any issues with, and I was pretty happy to see Harestar become leader simply because he has zero Fire/Tiger relation and can be a blank slate... which, hopefully they'll make use of soon.

Personally I think it's one of the weaker arcs but I honestly don't outright hate it. The second half was a a letdown but the books weren't completely unreadable. I like seeing the angle of Clan politics, even if it could have been executed better. Darktail was also a solid antagonist and I thought had some good ideas behind him as a social darwinist. The guy managed to control half of the lake territories at the height of his power too.

AVOS is my least favorite series, but I think it's because I just couldn't connect to Twigbranch very much. I loved The Apprentice's Quest with Alderheart as the POV, I thought Sandstorm's death was so impactful. But when Twigpaw becasme a main POV I just couldn't get into it and ended up skipping most of her chapters. I should go back and reread her stuff and see if my opinion changes. I loved Violetpaw/shine's POV, and I'm so glad she got to connect with her father, mother (in a way), and even started her own little family at the end with Tree.
Not to say I don't like Twigbranch, I really like her in the newer series'! One thing I really like about Twigbranch was how Alderheart was sort of like a found-family for her. And I liked her relationship with Lilyheart. Tbh, my favorite books of AVOS were The Apprentice's Quest, River of Fire, and The Raging Storm. Super unpopular opinion but I loved River of Fire and Raging Storm. I'm not the biggest Darktail fan, I don't think I've given AVOS my full attention but he seemed like a good enough antagonist and I really liked his death scene with Onestar.
